Totalement incompréhensible !
Diction effroyable !
Divine Christiane !
Gloriosa, luminosa! RIP.
Divine et si belle !
Superbe!
Extraordinaire !
Pourquoi est telle violer
This is disappointing. It is cut. It is not the spectacular performance this piece demands. Who come(s) to mind? Lisette Oropesa, Joan Sutherland, Rita Shane, Mady Mesple.
Oropesa is not exactly at the level of the mentioned ones. She's basically a mediocre singer.
I think u mean the length of the performance is disappointing. The quality and skill level of the voice is quite good especially considering how rare it is to find a voice type to sing it. Eda-Pierre hailed from a small island with no opera house and studied in France. She had no national cultural machine behind her or a conductor for a husband. The first black woman in France to rise to international fame in classical music against so many odds. This live clip might not be as long as we'd like but it is a true historical document of a great talent that was given almost no breaks in an industry that read her more as a curiosity than as gifted. Speaking of what pieces demand. Sutherland was a good Lakme but could not handle the high Fs. Mesple and Eda-Pierre did so beautifully and that's what the piece demanded.
I saw Mesple at the Met as Gilda and she had a tiny, fluttery voice. Much prefer Eda-Pierre.
