That is odd. I think there is some truth to it. In domestic animals, some individuals have blotches of white or other pale color. In some individuals like that, they may get pale feet. Maybe Goofy has a case of this. That would explain the pink hands in a mostly black body. This blotching effect can happen to dogs. Lady and Copper are two Disney dogs that are a lot more realistic. They have pale feet too. Then there is Dodger, who is the opposite. He is mostly white with the blotching effect. However he has grey feet, which are darker.
@@shirleymaemattthews4862 i think they mean it like that cuz Japanese animators work like a lot like literally A LOT to make tons of animes and it's hard to animate the characters and scenes maybe that is why I'm not trying to say other animators don't but I'm just explaining the Japanese part
I’ve been drawing Mickey a lot since his first version went public domain. And wow. The gloves really help. Hands are so intricate, and seeing an inky black hand disappear when it intersects with his body is such a strange sight.
“because back then, animation was made by hand-drawing each frame” You say that like that’s not in practice anymore. People still do it that way… *I* still do it that way.. Huh?
If anyones wondering the real reason why they wear white gloves is because it contrasts against the black fur back when cartoons had no color. This guys bullshitting
It’s also just a stylistic choice. In a theme park called the Efteling, the parks mascot is Pardoes, the magic jester. He was never really animated in a 2D style, although he still has white gloves. I imagine the designer thought it would be weird for him to just have human hands so he gave him white gloves and white leggings to match :D
I think it would also help to make the hands bigger, kinda adding more expressive qualities. It feels more natural (maybe just because we’re used to it) for characters to have big gloves than it would in if they just had big hands.
Well I have, But have you ever wondered how Donald duck and other bird characters hands are actually their wings, think about it, idk how to explain but if u think about it, it's a bruh moment
"Do you know why they wear gloves?" Yes actually, old cartoons were only black and white then and, therefore, most liked using black for clothes/ fur on the body to make animation easier and build a good silhouette. That meant a lot of the body black so to make the hands easier to see and not get lost on the body you'll make them use 'white gloves' that way you don't risk the hands looking like black blobs, like with felix the cat thought there are example of character that do not require the gloves rule like popeye or betty- "Hands were to difficult" I-... huh well that can also be another reason-
It's also because when shows were black and white, it was hard to see their hands. Because of that they got gloves and I guess it stuck even after it became color
Also back in the day when animation Was just black and white. The lines on the gloves were used to mark the top of the hands so that it was easier to recognize to the audience and to the animators :)
It’s actually kind of true, when I’m drawing a character I would either put the hands in pockets or a jacket, sometimes I would also just make them wear gloves
Wait.. Sonic also wears gloves, and if you had to draw him without them, it would be easy cuz he has no visible fingernails or visible nerves on his hands. He wore them in 16 bit games since the 90s

So artists have been avoiding making hands since the '50s. As an artist who struggles to draw hands, it's oddly comforting to see I'm not alone

I-... huh well that can also be another reason-
Oh now I understand well thank you who ever posted this video
and then there's anime-
I really admire artists for their patience and skills.
Also when animation was only in black and white, it was easier to make black lines then white ones to signify the fingers
AND, it’s because if the characters body is black (like Mickey Mouse) it helped when the characters hand overlapped another part of their body
That's actually kind of smart
As an artist I saw this coming from the start
Ngl but the white gloves make every cartoon character more goofy and fun
It's also because white hands/gloves helped they're hands stand out from the background when it was darker
I've also sometimes wondered why the gloves have those lines
Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network don’t have that issue
drawing each frame is still a big part of 2d animation, the main difference is now there's better technology and resources for it
Finally he speaked without sounding like he's a detective investigating a murder
It was actually difficult for them to make animated characters without gloves
But SpongeBob doesn't wear gloves. He was created in 98. So the same answer?
As an artist, I'm not even surprised
