  • Artist: The Black Crowes
Album: The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion
    Song: 99 lbs
    Lyrics:
Twenty-five pounds of pure cane sugar
She's got in each and every kiss
You wouldn't know what I'm talking 'bout
If you never had a love like this
Well, I don't mean to be frank with you all
    It's a natural fact
Good things come wrapped up in small, small packages now
Well you can't argue with that
    Oh, oh, yeah
Ninety-nine pounds of natural born goodness
Ninety-nine pounds of soul, oh, oh
Ninety-nine pounds of natural born goodness
    Ninety-nine pounds of soul
    Twenty-five pounds of tenderness
She got in each and every touch
Twenty-five pounds of understanding my woman
'Cause I was the one running 'round town worrying too much
    Twenty-four pounds of Sunday
    That I can't see, yeah
And it all adds up to ninety-nine big pounds
Oh, I'm talking about a feline friend
Ninety-nine pounds of natural born goodness
    Ninety-nine pounds of soul
Ninety-nine pounds of natural born goodness
    Ninety-nine pounds of soul
Ninety-nine pounds of natural born goodness
    Ninety-nine pounds of soul
Ninety-nine pounds of natural born goodness
    Ninety-nine pounds of soul
Ninety-nine pounds of natural born goodness
    Ninety-nine pounds of soul
Ninety-nine pounds of natural born goodness
    Ninety-nine pounds of soul
    Enjoy ^^

This is miles better than the 2023 mix. God, I miss this era of the band.

At the age of 13 I saw Humble Pie and then ended up being my favorite band. In 1990 when the Black Crowes came out I thought they sounded like Humble Pie and Stones. I’ve seen them 11 times and each show was better than the last one. When I got married the whole wedding party went to a BC show. This band rocks. To bad the brothers broke up such a great band!

Composed by Don Bryant, first release Anne Peebles. But Humble Pie's version is so awesome. I listen over and over.

@@laabsenceofcol8079 The '70s all-female rock band, Birtha, did a killer version of this song also, but unfortunately they never recorded it. Only a bad quality live film performance.

This song was written by Don Bryant from Memphis TN for soul singer Ann Peeples. Don & Ann co-wrote "I Can't Stand The Rain" as well. Both these songs were covered by the great Steve Marriott and Humble Pie. The Crowes always sounded like The Pie.

Loved the Crowes after hearing their first album, bought them all through "Lions" I think. This was/is my favorite.....hands down....with "Shake Your Moneymaker" & "Three Snakes & One Charm" (very underrated) close behind. This is a nice little bonus & a kick-ass tune off this one. That's one reason I immediately liked them, a 70s' "vibe"...that had been missing for me through the 80s'. You heard their influences, H. Pie, Stones, L. Zep, S. Faces, ect,. Loved em' in 91 & still do.KEEP ROCKIN' !!

A respectable cover of the Humble Pie original. Of course, Chris Robinson is Steve Marroitt and Rod Stewart's bastard child, so it makes perfect sense.

Steve Marriott was amazing with Humble Pie and the Small Faces. If you guys want to hear a really great hard rocking cover version of this great old song look up an unknown 1990s band called Circle Of Soul. They covered this song on their debut album that went nowhere unfortunately. Honestly, while this Black Crowes version works fine enough, the Circle Of Soul version is harder rocking and they changed up some lines that sound really cool. But it's all good. All these versions and the original.
