Such a great song. Perfect in every areas. Kyu Sakamoto’ voice is beautifully matched up with this song. Fact- is most of the time, always hurt/painful. That horrible war/time will always be remembered. One of my most favorites song.

Few people actually know what this song is all about. It's about the last night of a WW II Japanese Kamikaze pilot. Once you know what the song is about it becomes even more poignant, haunting and beautiful.
In the Japanese language, the title says exactly what it's about, though. 'I look at the sky', (roughly speaking). Sukiyaki is very trite compared with the bitter/sweet lyrics.

Title shouldn't have ever been changed to Sukiyaki. The reason was extremely stupid and pointless. It's original Japanese title says what it's about.
