      Terrific statement, Ketty C. I totally agree. I keep listening to his various live versions of this song; each one is a delight in its own way! So wonderful how Kyu still puts everything he has into his immortal song. His poise, grace, charm, and smile were really something. This song is even more poignant knowing what was to happen to him. 😢 Another foreign language song that also does that to me is "La Vien Rose" when sung by Edith Piaf. Anyway, very well expressed.

    Such a great song. Perfect in every areas.
    Kyu Sakamoto’ voice is beautifully matched up with this song.
    Fact- is most of the time, always hurt/painful.
    That horrible war/time will always be remembered.
    One of my most favorites song.

    I bought his LP in 1963, the same year my father bought me a Honda Dream 300 motorcycle.

    • @mdice111

      @Gabriel Chin My Honda Dream 300 was red. It was used but still fairly new. I was thirteen at the time but we lived on a farm so I could create a track to ride on. It seems strange for a father to buy a young adolescent son a motorcycle but there is some history involved. We are from Indiana and my father attended the same high school as actor James Dean. Dad was some six years older but used to ride Jim on the back of his 1940 Indian Chief motorcycle when Jim was between the ages of nine and twelve.

    Title shouldn't have ever been changed to Sukiyaki. The reason was extremely stupid and pointless. It's original Japanese title says what it's about.

    • @mesisson
      @mesisson 6 лет назад +1

      Well said, Peter.

    • @shirleypena4133
      @shirleypena4133 6 лет назад +3

      + Peter Taylor, I totally agree the title never should have been changed, but nonetheless the original title does not say what the song is all about. Few people actually know what this song is all about. It's about the last night of a WW II Japanese Kamikaze pilot. Once you know what the song is about it becomes even more poignant, haunting and beautiful.

    • @petertaylor3600
      @petertaylor3600 6 лет назад

      The Japanese title does though. Sukiyaki sounds very trite compared to the meaning in reality. "I Look at the Sky"

    • @petertaylor3600
      @petertaylor3600 6 лет назад

      In the Japanese language, the title says exactly what it's about, though. 'I look at the sky', (roughly speaking). Sukiyaki is very trite compared with the bitter/sweet lyrics.

      Excuse double answer. First one hadn't come up, so I repeated myself...
