Hi Brothers - thanks for your awesome ministry. Thought I would add a perspective on the story of Tamar which I thought would be helpful. Tamar, as you rightly point out, used a ruse to become pregnant by Judah. There’s more to the story & it’s actually super relevant to exactly the discussion on “the law, so here goes: Tamar availed herself of the laws at the time to prove that Judah had A) neglected to fulfil his legal obligation to Tamar to give her the possibility of bearing an heir. This was Tamar’s purpose in joining Judah’s family as well as her legal right. This obligation had to be fulfilled by either Judah himself (who was by now widowed) or one of his sons B) when she disguised herself as a prostitute and covered her face / identity she also asked for his personal seal as surety for payment. This she demanded to be able to prove without a shadow of a doubt that he was the “punter” and father of her child (in fact it was twins). This and only this was the reason she could prove that this was a legitimate pregnancy according to Jewish laws. Therefore she not only escaped death but also proved her actions to be righteous under the law. Finally - and this is the key point: through this event was the lineage of Judah kept alive which was then the lineage of Jesus. If you look at Matthew Chapter 1 where we see the lineage of Jesus, Tamar is only 1 of four women who are named specifically in the lineage of Jesus from Abraham to Joseph and Mary. What does that mean? In the context of your podcast - God made the laws as clear lights for us, to guide us and usher us to the truth, the life and the way. All laws eventually point to Jesus Christ our Savior. He did not come to replace the law but to be the fulfilment of the law. Our God is a God of Grace who saves, even when we ourselves, like Judah, fail to observe His commandments and laws because … well we’re just selfish little children at heart who would get lost without our Shepherd. I agree however "fulfilling the law" leads people to believe it was nailed to the cross, Christ said nothing will change in the law until heaven and earth pass away.
I think your Hebrew etymology of understanding really helped something click in my mind. It was humans taking of understanding that lead to our downfall. It’s cool that in English, understand and downfall have this negative trajectory implicit in their structure (under, down, fall). It’s the original sin, hamrtia, missing the mark, and when an arrow misses a target it falls downward.
Wait. God has not asked to be stupid, He wants us to have wisdom. We can't have that in separation from Him in our disposition, we now have chosen the hard way, and this where we are not to rely on our own understanding. Otherwise, why the Revelation at all? You go to far and you enter mystical gates or you can turn towards radical deconstructionism and end up with no language to communicate value and truth at all. This is not freedom, but a great cloud of unknowing in the most faithless way. So much is said new to us, it's hard to stay ahead of it. I fear we may be heading into a new group of judieizers, like we have with new waves of occult, new age, and gnosticisms. I am not opposed at all to the Torah, I am to be living out the love of God and neighbor which is the fulfilling of it. That the Spirit of God Is inscribing in our hearts through progressive sanctification in Him. Salvation in every day. Our place in Christ by faith, seals us to a finished work, but realized in time and eternity. That's why our faith is to be combined with patience, something Satan hates. The patience of the saints, with The Holy Spirit in the details. More than Victor's in Christ, let's learn to abandon the unbelief and temporal lusts and besetting sins, which cripple us. Nothing can separate us from the love of God in action, disciplining us out of this world. We are bought with a price. God's going to get His value from it, and we are going to be so joyous for it. We might not want to stop thanking God and hugging close to Him, wants we find out who He really is. He will have to send us away to help Him serve creation and enjoy. Without a tree of good and evil , and it's evil agent. The lost prince, we should be humbled by it, and come into the true life in Christ. Eternal life, and good fruit from a thousand trees. Praise God, Yahuah, forever. He who was , is and will be. I love Hebrew, but remember te epistles were originally written I koin Greek by the apostles, and they understood both languages ad probably more. If like to read the new testament in Hebrew, or understand what can be gleaned from both under the direction of the Holy Spirit. And in fellowship with others gleaning from it. I can never trust my own thinking wholly, thinking I've arrived wholly. Trusting and pondering the scriptures will give enough to think about, just in wisdom and action. Psalm 1 . Let me learn and be edified in the Whole Body of Christ, and ears to hear. I need you in Christ as well. ..

This was so beautiful!! Have you figured how the boilng goat in milk would have a depth of wisdom to understand? Not just not do it? Also, how is what Tamar did different than Lot's daughters with him? In the sense of rightness? I've listened to this one about 3 times now. I'm kind if working backwards and hope I can find all the podcasts for this year. I love the old Testament! And see God often as more kind and tender and fatherly. I love how you're bringing Jesus into focus now, sermon on the mount etc. The parishes perhaps just did laws as checklist, but Mary Joseph, simeon, Elisabeth, Anna, from the heart! Lots daughters got him drunk and laid down with him to become pregnant. According to Mosaic Law in Leviticus 18, it's an abomination to lay down with a parent. Tamar tricked her father-in-law to lay down with her, Judah to become pregnant (he was not an immediate blood relative) and in what she did, preserved the bloodline of Judah.

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us into His image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. We cannot purify ourselves, but Christ lived that perfect sinless, pure life and then allotted it to our "account". That's where our righteousness comes from. Not from any good, works that you or I could do. It is not based on the amount of good works we do. God starts the changes, He carries it on, and He completes it in those who let Him. It's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him, again, through His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if YOU had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, forgiveness, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. It’s not Moses adapting the laws, it God… like I hear what you’re saying but I think you’re missing a part. Yes Moses I reiterating the “adapted” laws but only because God is instructing him. So it’s more of don’t add or subtract to Gods word more so then anything,, if that makes sense
So, the people of Israel study groups on the Torah and could take copies of it home to complete additional assignments? So, it is true that the people were all literate and had access to the Torah, even in the wilderness??? I'm just asking.
John 1: 17 For the Law was given by Moses, but grace, and truth came by Jesus Christ. 18 No man hath seen God at any time: that only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. It's quite clear that the "god" of moses was not the Father.
"For the law was given by Moses, grace and truth came by Jesus Christ." There is no *BUT* in this verse in the Greek. Jesus is the one Moses prophesied would come after him and would be just like him (Deut 18:15). Inserting a *BUT* which is not in the original text implies Moses did one thing but Jesus did something in contrast. Their roles and missions compliment one another, to make full. Not undo or change what King David said was perfect Psalm 19:7 - "the torah of YHVH is perfect".
why have nobody ever gone over Genesis 1:2. And the first couple of verses. When it explains that there’s frozen dark water in the universe surrounded by the spirit of God, before the start of the creation story. Or the recreating of the earth. World out of the Fathers house. This is witnessed by Genesis 1:28 KJV replenish the earth and Job 38:30 The face of the deep is frozen. The light entered the darkness and the darkness knew it not. The law was given to lead us to Christ and Christ leads us to the Spirit. The Spirit enables us to live a life pleasing to God (incase you missed the lesson of the Bible as a whole).

It's quite clear that the "god" of moses was not the Father.

Jesus is the one Moses prophesied would come after him and would be just like him (Deut 18:15). Inserting a *BUT* which is not in the original text implies Moses did one thing but Jesus did something in contrast. Their roles and missions compliment one another, to make full. Not undo or change what King David said was perfect Psalm 19:7 - "the torah of YHVH is perfect".
