Linux Mint. However, look into an Immutable Linux setup. Supposedly, it gives one easy, one click access to the best and newest programs from many different distributions. Also, look into Ruby on Rails. It is a very efficient object oriented and quick turn web database system. You can always expand from there. It is a great first step and, in many cases, it is the best last step, too -- especially if your application is not global and very busy.

But I would never use it in a laptop, precisely because it is easy to brick, and on my laptop I need stability during development 'cause most of the times I am mobile and don't have time to fix issues. Parrot OS strikes an awesome balance in that regard, it comes out of the box with huge amount of tools, so there in no hassle in development

Mint Linux is nice. I had used it in a past as my main OS for Java backend development.
Fedora could also be nice, at least with additional package repos, like RPMFuse. I also used it in work. The frustrated part of Fedora is that it's GNOME oriented and GNOME is a dirty garbage made for aliens. They support other DEs too but not as well as GNOME. I personally prefer Cinnamon.
Arch Linux is a piece of shit and must always be avoided. It's not suitable for serious software engineers but for schoolboy nerds only. Arch Linux is a rolling distro that might be broken anytime you update it because they don't know how to test their updates well. Arch Linux community is very toxic.

-1 for recommit Suse for anything. Incredibly unfriendly especially the lack of documentation. Free BSD is better supported. Avoid Suse. My work some "architect" who had not written a line of code since the 90s had "standardized" on it and that lasted less than two years because it was impossible to find info on the internet with out paying for support. Every team that was forced to use it got "deviation" and Suse was replaced by a RedHat district in less than 2 yrs
