    The 2003 5.7... 345 engine is my favorite. That is the last Hemi that didn't have the troublesome EGR emissions crap on them. Pretty good running cool sounding engine. Very reliable too.

      @@moparcntryYep the 361 383 400 413 426 max wedge and 440 were all wedge engines . A properly tuned 440 could actually beat the 426 Hemi in the 1/4 at times and they stayed in tune better than the Hemi did . Now when you start talking about running nitromethane through a Hemi compared to other engines it's a whole different ball game thanks to Don Garlt's who found out that if you increase the engine timing way further than normal when running nitro they run much better & make huge HP. Indy cylinder head now has some great wedge and Hemi crate engines that make a ton of HP and torque and some if the wedge engines they build are very close to making Hemi power if not more in some applications they build but like anything Mopar related they aren't cheap even though the Chrysler cars & engines have gained more popularity now because people are tired of seeing the common SBC BB chevy and Fords all the time but the prices for the Chrysler stuff never seems to go down much if any after all the years of the aftermarket making speed parts for them especially the Hemi engines. I like them all be it the GM stuff or the Ford stuff & Chrysler stuff and if course the old cars like the Packards and cars like the supercharged Grahams and Cords of the days past that were ahead of the times .

    Steve, I've successfully repaired several blocks without welding using Iron-tite plugs. They're cast iron so rate of expansion is equal to the block. You drill, tap, lace them in, locking them together the length of the crack. Lots of red loctite and mill or grind flat the next day. A ceramic block sealer in the cooling system and you're good to go. And yes I'm talking about fully built Race Engines. I bet you have friends in the heavy truck biz who know about and have used the plugs to repair a diesel block. Back in the day I used the plugs to fill the holes in the decks on blower Engines to help keep the top of the cylinders round under high boost levels and keep the head gaskets intact.

    • @peteloomis8456
      @peteloomis8456 3 месяца назад

      @@bobsmtih3593Much cheaper to build and more plentiful so for a lot of people that's the way to go to save money and be on the road quicker driving there hot rods . Hemi or any Chrysler engines be it the Hemi the wedge big blocks the small block poly & LA engines are always more expensive to machine & build compared to a Chevrolet or Ford just because the machine shops are already set up & tooled for those engines. Now if it's a Chrysler engine a Cadillac Buick Olds or Pontiac they aren't cheap to build either just because they weren't used as much for racing or did they often times out sell Chevrolet or Ford back in the day & that's why they are so much cheaper to build because when Chevrolet came out with the SBC that basically put the Ford flat head in its grave because every speed part known was developed & tested on the sbc at the time . I have a old hot rod magazine from 1968 and back then you could buy a brand new SBC 2x4 tunnel ram intake for 99.00 delivered to your door back then which for some with the pay scale back then that was a lot of money but the SBC was always the cheapest to build for years until these new GM LS engines came about that don't cost that much for a good used engine but can make huge power for cheap . I'm actually more of a Chrysler guy but like them all but I admit that they Chrysler cars are always much more expensive to build and restore than the Chevrolet or Ford's are in most instances but like anything you got to pay to play .

  • @AtomicFacePunch
    @AtomicFacePunch Год назад +3

    Nice! Early hemis are the pinnacle of hot rod cool. The slickest trick build with factory parts is a '55 331 block and heads with a 392 crank. You can get 392 cubes with the best factory head casting and weigh 30-50 pounds less than the tall deck 392. Lock-N-Stitch sells high quality metal stitching pins for cold stitching cracked blocks, might be worth it since no one seems to be producing an early hemi wet block.

    The 54 and 55 331 blocks don't have that integral cast bellhousing ( if it wasn't mentioned ). The 55 331 heads are considered to be the best , the Hot Heads aluminum are based on 55 331 .
    These engines lost their purpose as gasoline quality improved . The original design ( FirePower passenger car engine ) was based on available fuel in 1949 which was about 62 octane ( remember Phillips 66 gas stations , the 66 in the name is for the octane rating of their fuel when they named the brand ).
    Even with all of their " flaws " the early Chrysler FirePower is my favorite engine series. Every piece in these engines is " ideal " ... simple common sense engineering.

      If you use the proper PPE you’ll be ok, unfortunately when a welder gets in a hurry often times they’ll tack things without a hood.. which isn’t good and can burn your eyes.. called flash burn. It heals but is incredibly uncomfortable.. doing this too often can absolutely have long term effects..
