The interesting thing is politics consumes you whether you know it or not. It's not a choice, it's a battlefield. Politics is all about the justification of violence. If you make no attempt to justify that violence based on your values, you'll find yourself defenseless as your apathy has silently endorsed a world that has undoubtedly justified a great deal of violence against you.
Do your own research and come to your own conclusions, but keep in mind that politicians on both sides of the aisle (in US at least) are corporate sellouts, in the pocket of the industries that pay them to say what they do. This includes president Obama, Hillary, president Trump, the billionaires running for the democratic ticket, Gingrich, McConnell, Pelosi, Schumer, and much of the rest of the flaming garbage pile we call congress. Bernie Sanders does not take political money, ran as a socialist in the 80's (not a politically savvy move) and won, he is 10x more bipartisan than what MSM will tout about their favourite candidates, and has been fighting for the basic amenities every developed country (except the US) has such as universal health care and paid maternity leave, and you cannot fake his 40 years of authenticity.

Listen to every word. It seems so simple and clear and is so complicated and difficult. An important book and author. Added to reading list of required reading for my students.
I listened pretty carefully. He believes government, the very tool used by the oligarch class to enshrine their business models and asset security in law is the solution to these problems. Brainwashed statist or knowing propagandist. "The elite are them problem! Give more power to the government!" The government are the elite. Idiotic and farcical.
zebextredon i agree that in its present mutation government is largely a tool for oligarchy, but that’s because it’s infected by oligarchy. the solution is not to take power from government, rather to do as he suggests, to take power from oligarchs and reinstate true democracy that is filtered through and upheld by a government populated by normal people.
@@tomstein7131 Wrong. A government will always be populated by psycopaths because the concept of government - a special club of people who have special rights to coerce all the other people - is fundamentally psychopathic. Look at every revolution ever. Look at the French revolution where they did EXACTLY as you propose - they kicked out the Oligarchs and took the government for themselves. How did that turn out? Old psychopaths immediately replaced by new psychopaths, only this time, psychopaths from the set you're calling "normal people". Just as destructive as the oligarchs before them and of course, once in government, they quickly worked on making themselves and their friends the new oligarch class. This is what government is. The idea is fundamentally violent, psychopathic, and anti-human, and that has been demonstrated thoroughly by literately every single government in the history of the world. Think for a moment - has there ever been a good government?
zebextredon you might be right. i’m not set in my pro-government stance, i’m just unsure of an alternative system of regulation and management. ur use of “violent” suggests to me ur probably coming from a position of leftism so i’d genuinely appreciate if u proposed an alternative system.
@@tomstein7131 Under the current paradigm there's no alternative. There are too many psychopaths in the world and regular people on the whole are too psychopathic for any better system to work. We have the system that fits people'e level of consciousness. That system of course does everything possible to keep people from advancing their consciousness so it's impossible for us to organically evolve out of it into a state where we could handle a better form of relating to one another (e.g. a kind of peaceful agorism/anarchism). It's an impassible problem as far as practical, material solutions go. My advice - meditate, find value in areas of life that do not involve politics. Ignore politics.

@Snappingturtle 267 The fact that you call other people ignorant is truly astonishing. Google "21 u.s.c. 851". There are other such books and like "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" where the elite have no win- win delusions - they just intend to win period. There is "The Manufacturing of Consent " that explains how to move the population to self enslavement. Some about what comes after "the age of reform" that Anand envisions - like "The New Human Rights Movement" and others.

It should be understood that where we are as a country is intentional. The elite have never liked the middle class, because they can see both sides of the coin.
Bernie2020 - the only candidate backed by a large movement of working people and the only candidate not bought by the cleptocracy.

Very insightfull. Huge Like.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING MORALS AND INTERGRITY. MAY LOVE AND LIGHT SURROUND YOU.
I’ve seen Anand make the media rounds lately and I like what he has to say. But I wonder why when he says it, the elite media listens and (seemingly) takes him seriously. But when Bernie Sanders says it, he’s an existential threat 🤔
Bernie has political power, this speaker does not. Therefore, Bernie is more of a threat. Additionally, Bernie has demonstrated he can mass mobilize people. This speaker has not.

Anand aint running for President
To build his credibility? How better to build a guys credibility then let him take a few credible shots at the establishment?
To build credibility? give him a few free shots at the establishment to win some hearts and minds then business as usual.
Wow. Powerful commentary by Anand. Loved it.

4:06 I once saw Tom Friedman swimming in his mother in laws pool. That was a beautiful thing to see. The world truly is flat.
It's certainly not a globe!
Archie Bunker I love how dead pan Anand remains as he delivers these two consecutive absurd sentences. It cracks me up every time.
Excellent interview and point of view with a dash of foreshadowing, hopefully!
Anand giving a fantastic well spoken argumented talk as always
