Alrighty, here's some clarified lore for you: It seems like you’re under the impression that Donkey Kong jr becomes Diddy Kong, but that’s not the case. **Cranky Kong**, the original Donkey Kong from the arcade game, is actually the grandfather of the current Donkey Kong. **Donkey Kong Jr.**, the protagonist of the *Donkey Kong Jr.* arcade game, is Cranky Kong's son and the father of the modern Donkey Kong. Meanwhile, **Diddy Kong** has no familial relation to the Kong family. He’s simply Donkey Kong's loyal friend and adventure partner.
During development, Diddy Kong was initially going to be DK Jr, but Nintendo told Rare that their reimagining of the character looked too different, so they were given the choice to either redesign the character again to match closer to the older DK Jr design, or turn this reimagining into its own character; Rare chose the latter and that's how we got Diddy. Also, Diddy is Donkey Kong's nephew, at least back in the original Donkey Kong Country games, so there IS a familial relation between the two.
@@MaluCLBSIt does make sense for DK Jr. to be out of the equation entirely in the Illumination movie. In that universe, Cranky never went to New York, thus also never kidnapped Pauline and thus also never met (alt alone fought) Mario up until he, Peach and Toad went to the Jungle Kingdom. This means that in the Illumination movie, Cranky Kong never was the "original Donkey Kong", there is no "original Donkey Kong" to begin with and that the Donkey Kong you see in the movie (Cranky's son) IS the one and ONLY Donkey Kong. By removing Cranky's identity of Donkey Kong from the arcade game and in turn his history with Mario and Pauline (and having modern DK be the one with the rivalry with Mario), this makes the dynamic more streamlined and understandable. I'd like to imagine that in that same universe, Donkey Kong would have a kid with Candy Kong, and their kid would be Donkey Kong Jr.
#LostMedia Two that I have always been really interested in have been: Footage of Walt Disney's plane landing on World Drive when it was brought to WDW to be installed in Hollywood studios. There was no regulation airstrip that they could use, so Disney held a pretty cool ceremony with Mickey Mouse and the WDW marching band to land the airplane on the Resorts main roadway. There is only one picture, but I have scoured the internet for YEARS trying to look for any video. The second one is not nearly as cool, but still interesting nonetheless. It entails a one time costumed character used in the 1976 Macy's Thanksgiving day parade aimed at promoting 'The Shaggy DA.' It was the only time the costumed character was ever used, and seemed to recycle different costume parts from other disney dogs and felines. Just some cool ideas. Love the videos Dan!
How would that be possible though? Diddy is way smaller than DL, and he'd have to be smaller than the average human as well. It worked with Toad because his forehead/mushroom hat was massive, but I don't know how Diddy could work.
@@cadendicky1855 Compare the height of Mickey to the Disney princesses in the Disney 100 animated short, or Mickey to Goofy, or Mickey to Walt himself. Then look at the height of Mickey in the parks. @@NicholasMoreau I'm just saying, it'd be really weird to see that, they did it well with Toad no doubt, but it'd still be really weird to see a tall Diddy.

🍩here's an interesting idea: a sort of collection of costumes of chars. from PBS kids shows, theirs some interesting things from all sorts of different shows. Like how it seems the Arthur one hasn't changed at all and how the main one for Fetch! With Ruff Ruffman was used in the show as Ruff's official walk-around that he acknowledges, and even becomes a big plot point in one episode!
For the next Mario/Nintendo episode, I would love to see one on Yoshi (maybe since he's gonna appear in the second Mario movie). Looking forward to the one about Tails too!
The CG models the costumes from the early 2000s commercials are based on are actually from the Donkey Kong Country animated series that aired on TV in the 90s. That series was also one of the earliest uses of motion capture in media, bringing…..interesting movements to the characters.
12:05 Dan, I am a massive monster truck fan, and I really want more video game inspired monster trucks like the Donkey Kong one to come out. DK actually won a couple of monster truck shows before, actually
I don't know what Universal and Nintendo are doing to me, but why is the new meet and greet Donkey Kong low key hot? I don't need a new kink unlocked. 😂😂😂
🍯 Great video! Thinking a silly idea but made me wonder if Disney fashion accessories count? I was thinking about the iconic Minnie hairbands and the 90s one I remember is rough for a child... lol
7:58, there’s actually a few wrestling promotions that have mascot costumed characters in the ring one is Mystery Wrestling in Canada and the other is Wrestling Pro Wrestling in Burbank, CA(they actually have completely original mascot-style costumes like Chow Mein Charlie and Haystacks Calhoun)😂

🍌 I LOVE the Donkey Kong Country Cartoon! Did you know that Donkey Kong Country was the first television show to primarily use motion capture technology? They used motion capture to animate the characters dancing, they also used the technology for a French Kids TV block where an animated Donkey Kong was a host.

Dan, I hope you read this. In Muppet Show On Tour: 2nd Edition there was a Sam the Eagle costume that we somehow have 0 pictures of. I think this may be the only Muppet/Sesame Street Live character we don't have pictures. Even a picture of the show-unique villain (Mr. Summerfall Winter) recently surfaced out of nowhere.
I threw a nintendo themed Halloween party this year and my friend dressed as DK and his toddler was dressed as DK Jr. It was super cute. His wife was dressed as a banana
I’m still surprised that he hasn’t done one with Woody Woodpecker yet despite doing a video on the Minion mascots. But the evolution of the Bugs Bunny mascot would be an interesting video of itself since there was Bugs Bunny costumed characters since the 1950s and his theme park debut with Six Flags Magic Mountain back in 1972 and the defunct Warner Bros Jungle Habitat theme park.
So, funny story, I actually worked for the company that built the original prototype ride vehicles for the new Donkey Kong Country Coaster at Universal in Orlando and Japan 😅
#LostMedia I’ve been looking for YEARS for what I believe is a Disney Park cover of “Make a Man Out of You” from Mulan. I originally heard it on a website called Disney Pal (the owner passed away years ago, the domain’s under new management) but it sounded AWESOME! It was only a clip, it was all instrumental, it had an electric guitar in the chorus and what sounded like a bamboo flute in the verses! I emailed the admin before he passed if he had the song file, he said it was for a rehearsal of some sort, but he sent me the wrong music file (it was a clip of the sorcerer’s apprentice lol)!
