Over two years ago (wow time flies) I did a tutorial on the Supermodel 3 emulator for Sega Model 3 arcade games...but times have changed and a LOT of you have been asking about it again since I have started the Sega Arcade Racing Retrospective...so let's dive back in! Retrogaming revisit incoming!

Sega Model 3 was an amazing arcade board! It was home to Daytona USA 2, Virtua Fighter 3, Sega Rally 2, the Ocean Hunter, The Lost World: Jurassic Park...and more! But they are very tricky arcade PCBs to maintain...and even as a retro gaming enthusiast I don't always take them out of my closet when I want to play. But with the Supermodel emulator we can improve on every Model 3 game via emulation...and it runs on your Windows PC...making this PC gaming...retro style! Oh...and Scud Race too ;)

I love model3 games !
It was the height of Sega 3D IMO. Sure NAOMI was more powerful but I just love the look of Model 3
Unless i missed it in the Video, also make sure to always enable 'quad rendering'. It is mire accurate to the original Hardware and can even be faster. In older versions it was slow on non Nvidia hardware, but i commited some patches that made it fast on intel and amd, too
Fantastic tutorial! I've been trying to play Daytona USA 2 and SCUD Race for a while now and the emulation was pretty bad, but now it works perfectly.

A Sinden video would indeed be amazing. Love your videos! My lightgun basically gets very little use as it's so cumbersome to set up (or I am too impatient/stupid).
Everything takes a minute to set up. But once you get it dialed in it’s quicker

I love this emulator. I didn't know you had to be a member to download the latest version. I usually go to the download page, not “The catwalk.” I also wasn't aware that there were certain clock speeds that are best for each game. Excellent tutorial

The best clock speed is what clock speed the stepping on the board used. However many of the games will run happily at lower speeds without issue. Sega rally 2 has some corruption though if used at too low a clock speed.
Yes that’s the only game that seems to exhibit those issues

What a fantastic emulator, it’s a crying shame we never got console versions of these great games. Sinden tutorial yes please! and how to get the emulator running at native Model 3 speed would help too.

I think you should do some sinden tutorials. Maybe even consider covering the teknoparrot lightgun set ups too. Lightgun games were such an important part of the arcade scene

Holy moly that beach stage in Virtua Fighter looks amazing! I also heard of a Supermodel UI called Supermodel's Assistant, have you used it and, if so, would you recommend it over the UI you are using in the video?
I prefer this to Assistant personally

Would love more detailed tutorial for setting up controls, specifically the mouse for Jurassic Park and any tips for the Xbox One controller, can't get the analog control to feel natural.
I may do a part 2 in the future about wheels / etc for Supermodel. I like to see how things do before I make multiple entries in something

Scud Racer was one of the games I wanted on DC. Still looks flatout amazing. Other game wanted on a better system was Virtual Fighter 4. The PS2 just couldn't do it justice.
VF4 is best on NAOMI 2
Thanks for the info about the CPU speed settings. Though I don't know why the emulator doesn't automatically set the correct speed depending on what game it detects.
That’s a good question. Maybe something that could be added in the future is an auto CPU clock setting
Because the CPU emulation is interpreted which means it's portable but it's not super fast. You would need a very fast cpu to run the emulated cpu at 166mhz. However many games will happily run at lower emulated clock speeds.
Another great video. A Sinden tutorial would be very appreciated.

I wouldn't say no to a Sinden video tutorial. Also, a tutorial on setting up this emulator on Steam Deck would be great too. Hopefully it gets added to EmuDeck soon and we don't have to worry too much about configuration.

Wait, are the builds still the latest on the forum or are now the git builds that you can find on the download page the latest?
I offered my friends to write them batch files for setting up controls and playing the different games.
I even adjust the Resolution and if the Monitor is capable of more than 60hz i enable the sync option.
Supermodel is a wonderful Emulator Bart and the people from the Forum are really nice.
I play Daytona USA 2, Scud Race and the other racing games with a Thrustmaster T300 RS GT and a Thrustmaster TH8A Shifter. It's really fun!

Great video! I've re-installed the emulator following your steps because I was having a problem with resolutions. I have a 4k tv and setting the resolution to 1080p makes the image stay to the right of the screen with fullscreen mode. Unchecking the fullscreen centers it but some elements are still out of the screen. And I tried using native(4k) but it makes it worse by making the image go out of the screen bounds. Only 720 is currently working as it should. Thank you in advance.
I’ll try it in my 4K panel but my ultrawide 3440s get a perfect 16x9 centered properly
Which steering wheel would you advise to play with ? Could you please make a tutorial on steering wheel and light gun (via mouse) setup with this emulator?

İ ve intel i5 m430 with 4 gb ram and geforce gt330 m, i was playing virtua striker 2 series on supermodel but now its working in slow motion not on the team select menu but in the match. İ ve also null dc for dreamcast and virtua striker is working fine. Any one can help me to fix it ?

Anyone know if you can run Supermodel3 at full speed on a Dell Optiplex 7020 4th generation i5 without a GPU?
CPU should be fine but you’re gonna need a GPU

Does this emulator work exclusively for Model 3 games but not Model 2 games?
I tried getting Model 2 games to work via Nebula with pre-configured files and merged rom sets, nothing yet. Would Lutris work, or should I use Protontricks to get it running? Thanks.

I’ve never done anything with Model 2 emulation outside of windows so I am unsure on that

It seems there’s a lag to sound on virtual fighter, is that so or is it just your recording?
All sound is locked in the timeline so if there is lag in the footage that is in the source. Resolve gives you big red, angry warnings when your asset is out of sync

This emu is amazing. I have it installed on my pc and works pritty well. Model 3 have very cool games, i play on supermodel all the time

Model 3 is very impressive. It's unfortunate this emulator is not user-friendly. There's a channel named Haidi Retro Gaming that has the Dreamcast games running in super widescreen. A bit like the Model 3 games here.
He explains every step in the video for you to get it going.

I've tried this like 7 times and it still doesn't work. I've downloaded the most up-to-date version of Supermodel, unzipped it in a separate folder, downloaded and placed a Daytona 2 ROM zip folder inside the Supermodel folder labelled for ROM saves, downloaded the EXACT SAME UI from EmuCR, execute 'Run' and then nothing happens.
All i want to do is play some Daytona 2... is that too much to ask?
That is odd. Those are the steps. What OS? Like not just windows but version. I’m wondering if the UI link to the executable is broken. Not finding the Supermodel EXE
@@VideoGameEsoterica I’m running on Windows 11, I checked and I’m not getting a supermodel.exe file, it’s just called Supermodel, listed as an application. When every I try to run it it opens for half a second and then closes again.
Did you put the UI in the correct location as supermodel? This really sounds like it’s not finding the EXE
@@VideoGameEsoterica There is no .exe for it to find. The UI is in the correct location within the Supermodel file folder, but the application refuses to run because its not in an .exe format
