This is my card. I feel as though he should keep it. I feel bad I ruined his holiday with it being un fixable. Appreciate the time!
I know his work is good but coudn't he change the chip, or is it not worth it or what? He has many donor cards so.
@@LubieOwnic it's not easy to change the gpu chip, you need a special gpu rework station, and there's a big chance that the donor has gpu problem .
@@LubieOwnic I've replaced a couple of chips. It takes forever, it's hard to reball, and the heat required is often damaging. Nvidia gpus handle heat better than AMD, but it's still not great. I will be doing some more gpu swaps, but it's more for educational purposes than for profit.
@@nightfury3619 can you upload it 👍
@@Techie1224 I plan to upload some videos on graphics card repair including chip replacement under DrasticRepairs soon. I've been working hard to get a sustainable business model set up at the same time as learning Davinci Resolve. And getting the equipment required to produce quality videos. I'm sure you don't want a blurry image with painful audio. :D LOL
Amazing dedication to a customer's repair is shown here. Alex, man, I just cannot applaud you enough for your amazing work ethic, your team mindset, and in general, your raw talent, and your pure professionalism. You are a top model for any and everyone that runs a retail repair business. You can be proud of the outstanding reputation you have built Alex. It is always a pleasure to join you on your repair adventures, you even went into work on your day off for this customer. Please never change, as in my and I am sure, many other's eyes, you are just perfect. Thanks for the great video as well! Fred
You learn something when you fix a board and also when you can't fix a board. With every new board the knowledge broadens.
That's true. I've got a laptop this week, just blinking power light. 4 days on it to discovery its the CPU shorted.
2 days latter, another laptop, same model, same problem. Take the measurements quickly, as they got similar results as the other. Checked the CPU. Shorted. Took me 5 minutes to know is a no fix. Experience is good not only to fix, but also to know when to stop.
Dare I say, as I was a repair technician in an earlier life also, that you learn as much, or even more, sometimes, from the circuits that you do not end up repairing, as you do from the successful repairs. Alex is showing us all that you learn no matter what the outcome is. This job takes a "can do" attitude and a lot of dedication to do well. Alex has everything good that you need to have on display here everyday. Fred
@@electronicengineer why did you quit repairing? I'm just curious 😊
@@roseelectronics4582 I went through a rough divorce and my ex pretty much cleaned me out. I went back to school and got into programming. Fred

I loved it how he said like "u know what? let me test this"

I CHECKED ALL THE RESISTORS CAPS MOSFETS AND DID THE SOLDERING MY SELF YOUR TIP FOR BETTER FLUX AND GOOD QUALITY WICK AND SOLDER HELPED ME ALOT ALSO THE IRON TIP HANDLING THANK YOU FOR TEACHING US THROUGH YOUR VIDEOS
That camera cable flew back to the 90's. 😁
You went a little over with this one, you have done more than enough and to see that after all that work and the way it turned out😐, I think that most of us are quite disappointed. I hope you get the same card in the future and have a better outcome.👍🏻🙂 have a nice holiday.
Thanks for the video. I always get frustrated when I don't fix something but the Time is more valuable than spending long hours on a dead horse
Thanks for doing a Part 2 video ! A shame the card was a no fix
Awesome troubleshooting. You're right, nothing is lost. Even if the card is caput, you still gain experience and spare parts. Interesting video I'm subbed now 👍
Alex (right?)... You are amazing. I'm still learning so much from your videos and I very appreciate the effort that you make for sharing your knowledge. Could I ask you to explain better when you said "put the red probe on ground" for checking for short capacitor? (Sorry for my English.... I'm Italian)...

wish I knew about this channel/services when I had my broken 1080ti. I really think it was fixable, ended up selling it for parts on ebay. Hopefully whoever bought it got it working
Video Card repair I have always seen as the domain of the Gods. Alex you are almost at Godlike level for repair Skills. If only you could get access to those GPUs
Great Vid & info, surprised you plug the video boards in without a heat sink.
school fees have to be paid for sometimes , i agree a lot of customers are awesome when they leave you the old bits
I love how devoted you are to your job that you even come in in the holidays/break man. But you should still take some you time every once in a while 😄
Good advice to buy a warranty on these cards . Great video 😊
When you press down on the mosfets, how can you be sure the solder don't touch eachother underneath?
Thanks as always. It is sad that half of the grafics cards we try to repair cannot be repaired.
I remembered that the resistance on the 1.8V was around the 260 ohm range, it should be close to 900 since it otherwise normally indicate that the gpu had fried and I don't think the gpu can still be ok at that low range. But If someone 110% knows that the gpu can still be ok with around 250 ohm on 1.8V please say because I have heard other things.
was thinking the problem was 1 of those grey chips that has R22 on it (an Inductor I think) was loose when you were probing the card. perhaps that is an issue? except this was a year ago. Cheers!
Wie hoch ist die Temperatur mit Heißluft beim Löten ?
Warum geht der Chip bei der hohen Temperatur nicht defekt ?
Excellent video, always like your process of elimination when repairing. Btw, when re-soldering the mosfet, were you using low melt solder? or 67/33?
From my experience fixing amd card series 4xx & 5xx, if it is stuck at boot voltage 0.9v i will replace the transistor sot363 that give enable signal to pwm controller (3.2v) sometimes this transistor do not work properly to switch enable signal on off during boot, if still stuck i check the pwm controller that connect to mosfet driver, sometimes the mosfet driver also have strange behaviour, if not then i assume the gpu itself not give proper signal to initialize
Have u checked the bios section
yep maybe the person tried to change the bios , and bricked it?
Damn, this kind of service is awesome. Too bad no one I know does this locally in my area
Bro love these graphic card repair videos keep them coming
Where do you place the common when measuring ohms and or injecting voltage?
Which thermal cam are you using?
With the cost of GPU cards you'd think people would treat them better, many like to overclock and run cards hard then wonder what happened. I still have my MSI GTX 1060 6GB, and a Gigabyte GTX 960 4GB, never had a single issue with either one. In fact, every card I ever owned worked good the day I retired em and I've gamed quite a bit over the last 15 years.
Do somebody know if there are software tools that allows users to store values like resistor value, capacitors, integrated circuits, etc....to any elecronical devices? So you search for a GPU and receive like a photo, a list of all components and some other informacion
Thanks for the update video !
I have a question: Is it in general a problem that VRAM going bad kills the main Chip? Or is it a specific issue with certain architecture? I believe they are closely connected - so is it a general problem? And if how does the VRAM kill the main unit?
Very informative. Thank you!
w0w im not watch this channle like 2month, and now i see so so mutch improve on gpu part, great video love 2parts video :)
i watched now 10 videos from him, all 10 are NO fix. does they also fix parts?
if the voltage is normal for each inductors and PEX rail.. and Vcore inductor doesnt change from let say 0.9 to 0.7, it indicates that the GPU is not initialize.. first.. touch the GPU if it hot or not.. if it hot.. the gpu chip is most like ok... some of the vram corrupted and it caused the display black.. u need to run mods and mats using linux to pin point which vram need to be replace.. it start from counter clocwise. A1 A0 B1 B0 .... if mods and mats indicated the B0 is corrupted.. u need to replace the B0 VRAM... .it is easier to pin point vram chip problem for nvidia.. but not amd.. if nvidia we can pinpoint the exact vram chip.. if amd.. it come with pair.. if u have 8 vram chip... normally if one die.. let say.. chip no 3.. it will shown in the software chip 3 or 4.. u need to try and error...
This is not a memory corruption case. Card is a no detect and not just a black screen.
@@NorthridgeFix Sir... I have a question and I really need your answer based on your experience. I was using my netbook for about 5 minutes after that it suddenly turning off and smoke coming out of the charging port, I immediately unplugged the adapter from the netbook. After that, I waited 1 hour and tried plugging the adapter back just to see if the charging port indicator light is still on and yes it's still on but I'm afraid to turn on the netbook. my question is does my netbook still have a chance that there will be no serious damage to its components or not?? sorry about my english ...
@@NorthridgeFix yes..not detected.. if u using the card as a 2nd gpu it might detected using gpuz... use ur igfx frpm ur motherboard for display... not from ur gpu.. for this repair u need to have motherboard and/or processor with internal gpu (apu) to identify the problem on the gpu slotted on the pcie
@@kongkonsarmahimbecile149 most likely your device is in serious help. It's better to seek professional help
You can use tserver instead of dmgg for AMD cards to see exactly which memory bank needs to be replaced
This is probably a stupid comment but...I had a Zotac 1070 ti that had a no detect issue. I reflowed the GPU and by dumb luck it fixed the card. It's been working for over 3 years.
Now for the dumb question...Is their a reason you don't try to reflow or reball the GPU?
Thank you for posting these videos. I've always had a passion for repairing but was not blessed with your skills. Watching your videos is as close as I'll get to experienced repairs.
Reflow or reball is a temporary fix at best. The customer will come back so that isn't really an option
If card is dead, does not matter what you will do, its not gonna be any worse. I will try to reflow gpu, it will not gonna hurt. But he need better understanding what is going on. How i can see he just replaces easy to see/fix issues. He does not go deep into repair/understanding a problem.
This is understandable, since price of living in LA are super hight.
Wen checkaed the resistence o the mosfete it 70 Ohms and you mentioned gate but isnt that the Source of the mosfete??? Pls clarrify will really appreciate it
What a great repair guy!
Cant win them all.. Good attempt at that board. 👏👏👏👏👏👍
does dealing more time on one device burns you out? how do you cope up with burn outs?
A shot in the dark, but will installing the heatsink assembly with the fans connected to the proper fan headers not make a difference?
On a video card not likely, some motherboards dependent on bios settings on the other hand can stop boot if no cpu fan recognized.
Additional cooling is always a good thing, if installed correctly.
Wouldn't make a difference otherwise water cooled cards wouldn't work.
I think it need some reflow oven, the bga on GPU isn't bond with the board, measure the standby amp, using the second or onboard VGA, check on devmanager detected or not, or finally guess broken traces on that tiny board
7:04 looks like coca cola was spilled and dried on the board
what do you use for a fume extractor?
man what a bummer, I really wanted it to work.
you should check LDO regulator ic and bios ic if no voltage comes out pin1 should be 3.3v and on pin 6 should be 1.8v
Why u dont have bga rework station...
With video cards Whats your fix ratio on them working. 50% etc
50%
So are these people that pushed cards too hard. i know anything can fail but what is the cause of these failures?
well sometimes can't fix . the board is like a City and a bug can hidden on the eny room
great! i was waiting this video
11:11 not just trial and error but get same working video card and check it while it is in operation. lol some customers ask that from the side of malice.
it might be the bios
You should use those testing cards that you can include with the graphic card and they will give you a code and you will know we're to go
nice video, but at least i will have tried to reflow the gpu like on notebook sometime that comes to life again :)
It's a bad time for someone to have a video card go belly up... That's why I kept my 1050ti when I upgraded to a 1060.
"upgrade"
what do you think about this pricing? i had an asus laptop with a malfunctioning fan. we found an equivalent fan in 13$ at ali express but we needed the laptop soon, and were scared to fix it ourselves. we sended it to the official asus repair service and i got charged 110$ for it and nothing else (we asked if they did anything else). felt kind of ripped off... should i come back?
6:45 I feel you
Awesome ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
Nice try 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
problem might be with the enable signal
Why did customer said he shorted the board
You have done all your best but unfortunately it won't work
Time, Materials and Knowledge makes what your doing worth charging for. If they want free, they can youtube/google for a solution.
very nice guy, so your car stopped working, you send to a mechanic that is incapable of repairing the car, but will charge you for the work he have done?! What is correct is at receiving the card, the repair man, tell you that you have to pay 1 hour of service, even if it is not repaired. That is right way to work.
Ahhh good ol' alpha and omega power metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors...you dissapoint me MSI...
Well you definitely earned the repair attempt fee on this one, really thought you would be successful here.
Call in the family. She’s gone.
You are lucky with the keepers thoh, get repair fee and parts.
I was waiting for this one
Time for a new gpu!
I love video card repair
RIP 💥
Haven‘t watch it yet, but can already tell, that your video is good ;D.
I dont think taking money for a failed repair attempt is fair. Personally i refuse to even sometimes customers offer to pay for the failed effort.
thermal camera model plz
its in the comment.
lol.. I worked monday also..
You should always check MOSFET driver chip - this chip control gate
Why would I do that?????. Gate is already getting proper voltage.
Been watching you awhile you make nice vids man been doing this for a long time as well always interesting to watch other people work that I have learned a thing or 2 from you over the years. I will continue to watch and won’t be in your conversations any further just thought I would lend advice “ and obviously reflowing the gpu would not make it “fixed” but I bet it would last another few months to a year while he try’s to find another gpu” there kinda scarce
How you think this board is making 0.7V from 12V power rail? By switching power supply! There is one MOSFET between 12V and output (0.7V) and one Between output(0.7V) and Ground. MOSFET driver will super quickly open first MOSFET, then open second then first etc. It will create square wave and Coil with capacitors will smooth that out. Frequency of switching will determine output voltage
@@solveit1304 Did you see the first video? He replaced a buck converter that presumably provided the necessary stepped down voltage.
@@solveit1304 an oscilloscope would show the wave form. I've been thinking about getting an oscilloscope and now you have convinced me. Thank you
As i told yesterday reflow gpu and vrams may solve
He could've tried flashing the bios on the card and messed it up, bricked the thing.
In India Everything is close and we have nothing to Do.
Except, of course, die of COVID. ☹️
Really hope that gets back under control soon.

Yes i was know that it was the GPU
4:10, you need to start using preheat in video cards, for mosfet removal and some power controllers, or the risk of over temp the components will be very high.
Part 1: ruclips.net/video/4ngtz8Re1j0/видео.html
If it is MSI, don't waste your time to fix it.
why happen to MSI?
@@AnomSanjaya Design and components qualty problems. MSI is the only firm that never response my bug report mails. Since my AMD K6-2 Spuer socket 7 Mainboard. I saw a lot of MSI products such as VGA cards, laptops, mainboards via my customers. Even some of them was not found at MSI support web site. IMSI has most unrapairable products in my mind.
