I just bought a Mini 2 to replace a Mavic Mini. Why NOT the Mini 3?
1. Price - with the sale going on, the Mini 2 with Fly More is $509. The Mini 3 is $718. That's over 40% more.
2. Very similar specs.
3. The non-DJI apps, Dronelink and Litchi, are available for the Mini 2 and not the Mini 3. That's right. There are options to DJI FLY app. Dronelink and Litchi allow Waypoints, Follow, Orbit, Pano, Focus, and Track. These programs provide functions available only on the larger drones. For example, I can fly in a straight line and keep the camera focused on my POI. Try doing that freehand. I have used these programs for years without any failure. I find Litchi slightly better in the interface area. There's plenty on comparisons on RUclips. Each cost $25 OTC.
I hope this information informs your decision.
I think now mini 3 series has unlocked SDK
Also Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro have condensation build up behind the lens. FOGGING due to bad quality control & poorly fitted seals.
Not an issue with the Mini 2.

seems also that the mini 3 still can't be jailbroken as opposed to the mini 2. Could be used for bypassing the 500m limit, not necessarily to go higher than 500m above ground, but simply to climb up a hill while staying compliant...

Thanks for the review. Even though I might have made the same decision had I seen this, I do see features I like. I bought the Mini 2 though, for my son, with the fly more combo, and directly from DJI which I prefer (perhaps naively) due to having the warranty directly with them, and my past experience dealing with DJI. For the fly more, 2 year warranty, the total was 633.00 - not sure you want me to list that here, but it's just a fact. These prices are dropping all the time anyway with the new models coming out. I would have loved the extra flight time of the Mavic 3 but the weight issue was something I was worried about. My son is a long distance truck driver always talking about the new places that he is seeing across the USA, and he loves pictures - so this was, I hope, the perfect gift. I will counsel him on flying rules, hobby or otherwise, and make sure he picks up the software for alerting him about where he intends to fly. Sorry for the long post. I do appreciate your knowledge and assistance. Hope the holidays will be kind to you and your loved ones.
Great video! I received the Mini 2 for Christmas but decided to exchange it for the Mini 3. I've owned the Spark, and Phantom 3 Standard previously. Drone should arrive next week!

Can you use the same filters for Mini 2 and Mini 3?
I'm still getting high with my original Mini. But if I were to upgrade it would be to the Mini 3 pro or what comes after it. Greg
The 3 is nice but the 2 still does all I need and the limitations are acceptable. Another reason to keep is that I bought all the DJI extended warranty options when I bought my 2. It's paid for. Moving to a 3 would mean buying more warranties and more cost, when I could just fly the one I have. And yet another reason is that I finally have my equipped the way I want with anti-collision lighting and landing leg extensions. It took a while to get to this state and I am happy with it.

Same dude I don’t use my mini 2 enough to justify an upgrade yet. It does everything I need it to. I really don’t need obstacle avoidance. Not having it makes me a better and more careful pilot

Bring the new Waypoint functionality to the Mini 3 - or release an SDK kit so Litchi and Maven can be brought to the Mini 3 - and I will buy !!! My Mini 2 is fine until then.
Hi there is there an option to lower the sharpness to zero or -2 ? from standard ? hope DJI Will implement just this one settings! like they did with mini3 pro after some time.. - because it's sadly too much post processing and digital sharpening (halos) to my eye it looks more like mini1 mini2 footage not true mini3 quality.

What is better than mini 3 or the avata?
For as infrequently as I use my Mini 2, I don't see a reason to upgrade. If I did, I would get the Mini 3 Pro.
Still waiting for the day DJI makes the DJI RC compatible with the Mini 2. That would be a cool upgrade for those on a budget. Cool video 👍
There is no obstacle that they can add this, they can even easily add follow me mode to Mini 2. But, you know it is capitalism and they will serve these features on upper models.
@@cotyoran0652 DJI will never include tracking on a drone without obstacle avoidance. It is a liability issue. Hubsan, Fimi, mjx and Eachine hide out in China where they can't be sued so they can include tracking or follow me on everything they sell. DJI does business directly or through dealers from almost every country in the world. They can't afford to allow unintelligent people to use tracking without OA and crash their drones all over the place.
How does it comapre to Avata?
I did enjoy the video and you made some very good points but there was never a clear answer on which one you would choose
The mini 2 is compatible with the original smart controller which I use as well with the air 2s.
If you have a mini 2 then upgrade to the mini 3 PRO. Skip the mini 3. The mini 3 is basically a mini 2 with a better camera. It doesn’t give you enough more to justify upgrading. The PRO represents the real upgrade. It gives you so much more…most importantly OA and tracking. Also camera can do so much more.

In a way the mini 2 is currently superior to the mini 3 in that you can get subject tracking if you use the Litchi app - whereas you can't for the mini 3 until DJI release the SDK for the Devs.

I'm looking at some second hand options: 1. mini pro 3 with RC, 2 batteries and a case for $800. 2. Mavic air 2s fly more $850 3. Mini 2 Fly More Combo $450. 4. Mini 3 with rc n1$470 - which is the best value? Its going to be for a hobby and taking pictures/videos in nature.
After 2 years with the mini 2 I think I might as well wait for the mini 4 or whatever comes out next, other than vertical shooting... the mini 2 and 3 are not very different.

Mini 2 fly more is the most affordable bare minimum I would go.
As the RC now has O2 on board, isn't there now an opportunity for it to eventually control a Mini 2 or an Air 2?

You can use an old phone without sim, or buy a cheap one for using on the remote controller. So you can keep your actual phone in your pocket.

Yeah, I like to use my old gs8 +, or iPad mini 6. My iPhone stays in my pocket, nice to have a dedicated device. That said I got suckered into the rc and mini 3 pro. I already have mini 2 and air 2s as well as mavic pro and mavic air which I don’t fly anymore
Will DJI come up with the Mini 4 pro in the future or is this the end of the series? What further upgrades can we look forward to in case they do launch the successor to the mini 3 pro?

I don't see the mini 3 as an upgrade to the mini 2. The mini 2 is a very capable drone and IF you were to upgrade then going to the pro version would be a true upgrade. I an guessing that DJI may cease producing the mini 2 now that the 3 has been released?? If not, then this is telling.

First drone so Went with the mini 2, sams club had it for $379 with extra battery and charging hub. Compared to mini 3 for $559 base set. If I use enough I will upgrade, so far loving the mini 2.

Mini 3 Pro seems to be prone to gimbal damage in a bad landing, due to gimbal sticking out further than the body.
All gimbals are prone to damage
seen alot of typos on screen, little confusing
A few weeks back i upgraded from the mini 2 to the air 2s and i’m happy i did. The air 2s is in a league of it’s own compared to the mini 2…the photo quality is amazing and feels like a tank buildwise.I won’t sell my mini 2,it will be my backup drone for places were i can’t fly the air 2s.I see myself upgrading the mini 2 for the mini 3 pro because you can shoot vertical with the camera,but for now my focus is on getting the best footage out of the air 2s.
Only problem about me for Mini 2 is gimbal twitching in sports mode. Except this, it is perfect drone for its price. It gives me huge photo and video quality more than i expected from a small device. That gimbal problem can never be repaired by software because of its a mechanical design problem. Air 2 or 2S may be my upper drone when thinking these
If you fly sideways, so that the twitch direction will be on the left/right axis instead of the up/down one, the mini 2 gimbal has enough control authority to stay where you've put it, even in sport mode. Not a perfect workaround, of course, but useful at times. Hope it helps.

Unfortunately no. That’s why it’s one of the upgrade differences. RC works with the mini 3 not mini 2.

@@FlytPath I think DJI is doing a big mistake and they don't care about their customers. The Mini 2 and the Air 2 are about two, two and a half years old drones they both use Occusinc so DJI could make them compatible with the new DJI RC controller and we could buy only that. But Nooooo they didn't!!! DJI comes out with a drone and bam 2 years later they don't support it anymore. UNACCEPTABLE!!!

Mini 2 for me. As much as I like Mini 3, there is no SDK yet.
Typo at 2:23 The one on the right hand side is Mini 3 not Mini 2, I think the aperture is wrong as well.
Ya noted in description after upload. Mini 3 on the right not mini 2. Mini 3 has a wider aperture which is better.
The mini 2 has the jerky gimbal issue in every flight mode

Sadly I live in a controlled AirSpace area. This is a problem with DJI drones. Some how they think they are the Governing body instead of the FAA. Hence why I own ZERO DJI products.
Tough. Because they fly so damn well.
I argue that the flyer itself is MORE important then the camera. Although the tight gimbals are covered too

Mini 2 is much more sturdy
While you push this mini 3 and say the upgrade remote means your phone gets a break, that's Not correct.
Now the Phone will need to provide a data link to the UAS in order to get past the BS NFZ/Geofencing crap DJI loves.
Autel still wins on this front.
