Thankyou Rich for uploading this video, My belt snaped Too, the shaft bearing at the blade end was seized, I managed to free it up, and gave it a good clean and re-lubricated. You helped Save me from buying new mower.

Nice one, I've got a Rotak 40 purchased in 2007 which is still going strong. Good to know that if it develops a minor fault like this then it can be fixed easily.
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
Thank you! We had exactly the same problem. I was just about to get a new lawnmower when I found this vid. Ordered a new belt instead and saved over £100

How do you get the red semi-circular handles to work? I inherited this mower and it only had one handle. I ordered another one, but already the plastic on the handle has become bent with tightening. It means the frame won't stay up.
@@RichDavey depends what you mean. What I meant is that the plastic on the handle has become deformed by tightening it so that the frame will stay up; otherwise it just sags.
I would really like to know the purpose of the carbon brush that rubs against the iron ring in the driven pulley. It must have a function but, as it isn't electrically connected to anything else, it seems to serve no purpose. My mower runs for a second then switches off in spite of replacing the thermal fuse and switch and lubricating the bearings.
@@RichDavey Wow! Thanks for the reply which I didn't expect at all. I do understand the two brushes on the motor commutator, it's the one that sits in the bottom half of the casing and pushes upwards onto the driven pully I don't get. It seems electrically isolated from everything so why is it there and what does it do? If you can shed any light I would be doubly grateful.
@@christopherwheeler688 Hi Christopher It is a while since I had that mower apart to be truthful. I am thinking maybe it’s an option that is active on different models. Be patient and am sure an answer will be forthcoming. All the best. Rich
Hi Rich. My Rotak stopped working on Sunday so I found and followed your excellent instructions to dismantle. I thought the problem was that the belt appeared to be jammed (rather than broken) but have now discovered that the motor itself appears to be seized up. Do you have any idea if this fixable, or should I try to find a new motor, please. Mine is a Rotak 40 GC, probably about 18 years old so doesn't owe me anything
I have the exact same model. Mine appears to have seized up as well. I can hear the click and the motor trying to move but the blade is completely jammed. I haven't taken it apart yet though

Hi Roger, thanks for your kind words. Can you spin the motor by hand? Check the brushes, basically where power connects to the motor. These can be removed and replaced. All the best
Hi, how do you remove the positioning lever handle? Mine has snapped off and I need to replace it but the remanants of the old one are very hard to get off with a screwdriver.
Hi Roger, I got mine not long ago. My lawn was really long and my daughter went straight into the thickest part of the lawn to cut. Mower stopped as it couldn't cope with the height of the grass. I've removed the grass but now it won't start at all. Any ideas if there's a reset button or some other fixable reason why it hasn't started. Thanks
@@RichDavey Ha! So I have changed the fuse now but I've hit another hurdle. Mower started and the blade goes round when its not in contact with the grass, but its not cutting the grass. Its set on the highest level, but it should still be cutting something as the grass is still moderately high 🙁
Hi Rich, it's the spring that attaches itself on the white cap (through a small metal bar). Not sure where the other end is meant to be attached? (what is the door you're referring to?)
Hi Shima, just put the model number in google and you will locate a supplier. Mine was approximately £10 not cheap but better than cost of a new mower 👍 good luck

Thanks for your comment Darryl. I don’t pretend to be an horticultural engineer. Far from it. While undertaking such jobs I don’t want to be putting the tools down to film. I got the new belt on and got the mower going again. All the best to you 👍
Completely agree! I fixed several Rotaks and this video is very misleading. There is no need to take the lower housing off for this job which becomes obvious when reassembling (but video fails to mention) and he re-connected the motor housing before assembling the lower body cover - which is a no-no as it makes assembly much more tricky. This Video just makes a meal of a simple fix and is not a helpful guide.
