The JGSDF has a Winter Combat Training Unit (Winter Ranger) based in Hokkaido, so it is likely that this is joint training between that unit and the US Marine Corps.
If it helps, for encouragement here...these boys need to bend knees when doing alpine/cross country skiing in downhill training, not straighten their legs. Also key to reducing lag, when going flat, meaning no incline or downhill, use of poles is key, upper body strength. Try not to lift ski's as if walking, keep them flush with snow, so to not lose energy and stumble. Pretend that you are skating likewise, the apparatus is a part of your body. You will reduce falling or tripping. Try to stay in the tracks as well. And also, when you approach a downhill area, depending on mission or objective, bending knees and "tucking" gives you speed to reach your location quickly. The smaller you become, in "tuck" formation, you pick up speed, as with aerodynamics, you cut through the wind, rather than drag through it...When you straighten your legs, this slows you down. If you need to slow down or stop, A "snow plow" formation, placing your ski's in a point at front, and wide at back, like a mountain peak or upside down "v", will slow you down or hard enough will stop you completely. I hope this helps, with a bit of practice! Was enjoying watching you fellas! God bless you all!
We have units that specialize in arctic warfare. The army also just re-stood up another arctic airborne unit last year. Couple that with the intention of securing Greenland as U.S. territory. I’d say yes, snow is a large factor in the foreseeable future of conflict in terms of Eastern Europe and the arctic.
I find it interesting that the Corps is still doing winter/artic training anymore since the last CMC 2030 plan. A light force in the winter on open terrain is not good. No more armor support and missing some air and arty as well. There isn't winter in the islands of the Pacific. This doesn't make any sense at all.
@@mil3010 True there is a lot of snow there. But those are not small islands like in the Pacific where the Corps is focusing on with the 2030 plan. They can complement the home forces there but thats about it. The old CMC all but gut the Corps to be a full on force. It is more reactionary then anything else.

I was going to ask that. I spent time at Fuji but mostly on Okinawa. But when we had our winter training it was either Ft Drum NY or Norway.

懐かしいな...^^米海兵隊のみなさんは、ほとんどの方が未経験なのに、その身体能力の高さであっという間に滑れるようになるんですよね...
Looks like you had fun . 😊
When I tried cross country skiing, I kept falling over and then laughing so hard that I couldn’t get back up. Not good at it.

So are we thinking that our boys will have to ski into battle one day?

Skis are a logistic or admin-move tool. It just helps you traverse snow more quickly. A lot of military activity is just Point A -> Point B.

In Norway, Sweden and Finland there is a lot of winter and snow.
