This is incredible. Very professional, solid, and a great video. There's no way in the world personally, that I would not have already slept in this build. Can't wait to see this channel grow.
Spectacular! Well put together Gene. Not only are you a master at your carpentry craft, and now you are a famed videographer. The only thing missing were the credits at the end. that would have been easy......... its you! Well done
Looks really good considering. Should’ve put some plastic or membrane under the wall plates so that the concrete slab doesn’t wick water up into your walls and rot them out. Love the decorative details and paint colors. Good job!
Exactly what I thought too. It’s going to rot from the bottom up. Concrete is porous. The caulk will prevent water from running in under but won’t prevent water from wicking up through the concrete from below. It’ll take a while but eventually the wood will rot. Our builder did the same thing on our house (wood directly on concrete) so now, after 20 years, we’re having to deal with it. Very expensive.
@, Even using pressure treated wood? I wonder if I could add flashing to it. I wonder if pole barns have the same issue. The posts are planted directly into the concrete?
@ even pressure treated wood eventually will rot. Ask anybody with a deck made out of pressure treated lumber. You need a moisture barrier between the concrete and the lumber. That’s why you see the black barrier on the outside of foundations before they put the dirt back against the foundation. It’s a moisture barrier to prevent water from seeping into the basement.
@ flashing is to divert water away. Like when water is running down the walls of your house and you don’t want it to get in your windows. Flashing won’t prevent wicking. When the concrete wicks water so that the concrete is now wet, it will make the sole plate in direct contact with a wet surface. No caulk on the edges or flashing on the outside will prevent that. What will prevent it is a moisture barrier between the two surfaces.
Just finished my 12 x 10 project, used the exact same siding it’s called LP Smart siding, T1-11 is 4 inch bead boards. I think I’m correct. Doing a very nice job.

Awesome build Gene! We get tornados here so when I connected the rafters I toe-nailed them in with 10-inch nails. When the tornado went through, it got a couple neighbors but not me. I did have 12 square of shingles to replace though
Wow Johnny, I’m sorry you guys got hit with a tornado, but it had to make you feel good that your work held up. That says a lot. Thanks again for watching.
I know that youre a VERY casual DIY kind of fella just by watching this video, so you can take what i have to say with a grain of salt! Im a General contractor who specializes in glazing, so OBVIOUSLY i have to point fingers at the window installs. I think you did a great and for a shed, its not gonna be a big deal, but when installing the tape, put a piece on the corners first, cut it flat so it will cover where your long strips wont, and always tape from the bottom to the top! This will make a "slide" basically so the water will go over the tape joints. Also, I would put your tape OVER the window flange to prevent water seeping through the window screws! And you had it right with the caulking along the flanges prior to the trim, but you want to make sure to "tool" that caulking flat over the screw penetrations! This will not only prevent water from getting in, but the caulking will better adhere after being tooled. Pretty impressed with the build, I thought you did a great job, and the video was great also, keep it up!
thanks Austin, and thanks for the great advice. It makes sense especially the taping from the bottom up. That would help keep the water sliding off. I learned a lot on this project. Some the hard way. LOL. Thanks again for watching.
That was a fantastic start to finish video, but you should have said start to finish the outside... LOL. I can't wait to see what you're going to do inside. I know it won't be minimalistic, but then again, I don't expect the inside to look like the Sistine Chapel. Oh, Gawd, I shouldn't have said that because you'll probably do a fresco on the ceiling of the Hand of God passing a Crosscut saw.....LOL
Brother, you have got some mad skills! You’ve obviously spent quite some time in the trades. I’m definitely impressed, and a bit jealous, too. I wouldn’t mind having a shed just like that, but at this point in my life, it’s just too much damn work. Old knees, back, and an unsteadiness on a ladder have relegated me to simple builds on terra firma. And I’m too proud and picky to pay somebody else to do it, so I’ll be easy to recognize - I’ll be the guy without a nice home-built shed! 😝
LOL Jim, I’m still stiff from that build and my wife is still made at me mostly for doing all that alone. Just one of those things. I don’t see my self as old. But I’m feeling it. Thanks so much for watching.
❤ My deepest apologies for being late on responding to your videos. I am in the hospital. I went in for emergency surgery 2 weeks ago. And they don't expect to release me for another week. They had to bypass my liver and splashed directly into my spleen. I'm going to enjoy your video. Keep up the good work😊
Robert, I’m so sorry to hear you are in the hospital. I sure hope you are doing better. Please take it easy and heal. That’s a long time to be in the hospital. You are definitely in my prayers.

Great looking shed. Only thing I think will be a problem is the doors slamming into those light fixtures. It’s likely you’ll need some type of hardware to stop the doors opening beyond 90 degrees. Your hinge choice aren’t great quality. The doors might begin to drop & drag sooner rather than later. Colors look great as do the windows. Well done
@@tomowens2720, Good idea on making sure the doors can’t hit the lights. And you are probably right about the hinges, I can see me changing them out in a year. This was a really fun project and I’m excited to share how I set up the inside. Any idea? Thanks for watching.
