As a Norwegian I can tell you being into metal is not that common, especially not metalcore. He spent his youth in the US since his dad worked in St. Louis and he went to Oklahoma State University on a golf scholarship, and youth is where the taste in music forms.

We recently stepped in for some supplies, and we mentioned going to a concert a few days prior. She asked who we saw and I said, “oh it’s metal, you probably wouldn’t know.” To our surprise she was familiar with and a fan of Gojira and named off other heavy bands she listens to. Given the store she owns, I was not expecting that conversation 😆
I played hockey (goalie) in college and when I would start I could pick the locker room music and would constantly put on Hollow Crown and Suicide Season plus old-school In Flames and Meshuggah There was one other teammate who liked that music and we would amp each other up and the rest of the team would look at us like we were nuts Hahaha
