Hi mate just came across your video. Owned many w203s and they’re all awesome. Tiny correction though, this has the newer modular M271 1.8 engine. They came in various states of tune. The previous engine was displacement specific. A year older car would have had the old 2.0 M111K.
@@Petrolheadmotors Thanks man! Yeah sorry that was a mistake on my part, thanks for the correction!
Our family car has been this exact same model with the Elegance pack since the time I was born, it is also from 2003, but boy can I tell you it is absolutely fabulous, finding one for £1250 in the UK is just JACKPOT
That's awesome to hear! Yeah it's definitely a great deal for sure 👍
I was fortunate to buy one of the last ones that came into South Africa (2007). A beautiful dark blue C180 Kompressor with cream leather interior. The best part is that my car has only 40k kilometers on the clock. I am still running the original tires that came with the car. My car was always garaged and the back seats has hardly ever been sat on. I find myself doing oil changes every year, cause the mileage is so low. The best part of this car is that it's a 6 speed manual, and has a proper rack and pinion power steering, instead of the new electric steering....
I love that this car feels so solid, even closing the doors, you hear and feel that quality MB build.
Wow, there can't be many examples like that around! Sounds like a lovely car
😂😂😂😂 time up to change your car tires. Any car tires more than 10 years old is not safe. Also they likely had out of roundness that can cause vibration when driven above 120km/hr.
Unusual to see one of these so well looked after. Especially with a manual. Looks like a great find! I went Volvo V70 D5 manual for my winter hack to keep the salt off my Z4 Coupe, but can see the appeal here.
Agreed! Ah do love a V70, got a lot of appreciation for Volvos in general actually, would love an 850R at some point. But yeah sounds like a great choice, thanks for watching!
I have a 2005 C230. (Mercedes did not sell the C180 or the C200 in the U.S.) Manual transmissions are rare in the U.S., but I managed to find a car with a 6-speed. I bought the car as a commuter, but after driving the car for 4 years I have concluded it is an overlooked gem.
Sounds awesome, bet that would be a great commuter! Cool that you managed to find a 6spd too. I think it is a brilliant platform 👍
In the u.s the petrol cost nothing. For people in u.s its not expensive to drive big engines, even a 6.3. You know how much a liter of petrol cost here in Holland? Around €2.10/2.20 a liter!
@@misterEl766 Yeah fuel is crazy atm here too - just paid the equivalent of $8.00 a gallon to fill mine
@@FootToPedal how much liter is a gallon?
@@misterEl766 A US gallon is about 3.78L
I have a W203 C180 Kompressor, year 2006, only 105k km! Automatic, 143 hp. Same silver colour. It's kept in mint condition, not a bruise or scratch. It's my daily drive here in Dublin, Ireland. Cloth interiors as well.
Sounds like a lovely example!
W203 was one of the last Bruno Sacco designs so it was sensible and very Mercedes. Some later cars have similar DNA but Bruno's influence is long gone.
The range of engines fitted to the W203 is amazing. Chassis could handle it all the up to the mighty 5.4L.
Just got one yesterday as my first car. Its a 2004 C180k and it's only done 57,000KMs!
That's great to hear! Very low mileage indeed, sounds like a good one 👍
@@FootToPedal Thank you!
For how much?
@@abdouibrahimdaher3894 $9100
I got the elegance spec w203 in gold for my first car last year bro... Such a good car mate all the best
The m271 engine has 1 fault and thats the timing chain. But I believe that is due to people not fixing the underlying issue when it arises which is the breather hoses.
Picked up a slightly scruffy but low mileage 2006 facelift C320CDi with the sport pack for £1495 last year. Not the most dynamic thing around corners, but the torque from the 3 litre diesel in a fairly small car still makes me grin when I overtake and it'll sit on the motorway doing nearly 50mpg in 7th gear.
That's awesome, great deal too by the sounds of it. I love a 6 cylinder diesel, as you say there's loads of torque and they can still do good MPG, great for cruising on the motorway. Thanks for watching!
How much mileage does the E500 from that era get? Also is there enough leg room for the back seats? (Your car)
@@abdouibrahimdaher3894 It's probably not great to be honest, I'd guess around the 20mpg mark, perhaps a bit more on longer journeys. And yes the E Class will have decent leg room because even this C Class is big enough
@@FootToPedal understand. Did you state you much mpg you get on this car? Highway driving included.
@@abdouibrahimdaher3894 The C200 Kompressor will probably do about 35mpg all round, including highway driving.
I got the c180 avantgarde 2005 auto model, still running daily after 18 years with 440.000km.
Amazing!
Just picked up a C180 verison Well on monday.
Enjoying it so far?
@@FootToPedal Pick it up on the 20th :)
Ah sorry, got you! Hope you enjoy it, I was really impressed with the C200 and the C180 has a pretty similar engine to that too
@@FootToPedal LOL yes you did i see it now hahahaha. Awesome video non the less i gave it a like :)
Thanks for the support!
Want one of these next.. It's just the headlights that let it down for me in terms of looks but inside you certainly get a lot for your money and you soon forgot how it looks outside 😅
Yeah the interiors are very nicely done on these, I know what you mean about the headlights, however the design does seem to be ageing well nowadays
I have a 2003 Mercedes C180 Kompressor also with the 6 speed manual gearbox, had it for 3 years now, makes a great first car too😁greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Just a shame that the timing chain is so weak...
Great car man, glad you are enjoying it! Yeah every car has its weaknesses sadly
the only car you ever need
I'm so jealous of you guys in the UK. A Yr.2000 W203 C200 is currently going for about £377 in my country.
sounds like a bargain lol
Hello great Video to see my car but inhave the 180C kompressor chiptune 30 pk.s more its automatisch Gearbox its so smootley and no noise in the car and i have 210.000km but thats fore Mercedes-Benz nothing ime soo happy the Mercedes-Benz Kompressor its Awesome thank you great video 👍
This engine (M271) isn't 2.0, but 1.8 !
Owned one these last year, unfortunately got car jacked at gun point, want to buy one again.
Wow thats unlucky, not something anyone wants! Hope you manage to get another 👍
@@majkollalo South Africa
How is it a 2 litre??? The M271 makes 1.8L. My family has the coupe version since 2007 with 260.000 km and its still great!
Early 200 Kompressor models were 2.0 Kompressor. Later 200 Kompressor models used the 1.8 Kompressor. Both initially 163hp, but later 184hp.
Early 200 kompressor used the 2l engine. The 2 lt is the m111 with the red cover.
fantastic review, would love a manual gearbox
Thanks! Yeah the manual is cool
great video
This car is same as my first car i got it still and i buy it only 4.5k on euro and drivet only 198tkm i wash so happy got it now it gona get engine boost to 240hp that gona be beast to that car type
Glad you enjoy your car man, thanks for watching!
@@FootToPedal thx make More car videos and never end trip to top
You'll have to clean it religiously in winter. Those W203s rust badly.
Have a C200K 2003 Sequentronic for about 12 years, runs like a charm, no rust. Planning to upgrade kompressor with a pulley kit. Regards!
Nothing can rust fast as a Mercedes Benz. Its awful car company and their are not reliable either
@@JasZg not reliable? In Europe these cars are used for taxis and many have over 1million km, if you think that’s unreliable then your crazy. I’ve seen here in UK 500k miles with original engine and gearbox.

Not good in the snow
This is Europen version elegance never made for North America
This model is made by Daimler Chrysler
6:53 of this ERA..
I also have some W203 videos, of my car, C180K
Design looks timeless and beautiful in my mind.
I'm just not fan of that trim level.
Fair enough!
I overlooked this video notification before making the comments about the Subaru on a more recent video, haha. I almost bought a C230 coupe before deciding on the 2005 Focus ST instead. I still like the looks, and it seemed like it would be fun. Maybe one day...
No worries man 😂 What did you think of the Focus ST? I keep coming back to these now - for a while over here they were owned by a certain type of person and so finding ones that haven't been messed with is difficult. But that 5 cylinder engine is calling... 😂
@@FootToPedal Haha, yeah... The 05 here was a 2.3L I4... had great suspension that was firm but comfortable enough for the rough back roads. I'd say it was less capable but just as fun as the 2012 Civic Si (it was not a Prelude! haha) that replaced it and was traded in fairly short order for another technically less capable but fun car, a 2011 VW Golf TDI... Unfortunately the ST had a 1AM run in with a Black Angus cow... unavoidable but totaled the car... cow into the windshield and over the top... it kept us safe, but the engine was about 4 inches farther back than it should have been.... hmm front mid engine, like my miata? lol
@@mry82 Wow that's really interesting, looks like the Focus ST you guys got is totally different to the Euro version, I thought it was the same for some reason! Shame about the run in with the cow, but glad there were no injuries - I've had a few close calls with wildlife, sheep love to run out in front of cars ahaha. But yeah perhaps the cow was trying to sort the weight distribution out?
@@FootToPedal Haha. Yeah, the 05-06 STs that followed the Focus SVT were milder than both the SVT and the newer STs, but still a great daily driver. I was glad we had the 05 because some people thought even it was too stiff and they softened them up for 06... Was there an I5 version of the ST back during that generation on your side of the pond?
Yeah makes sense, bet it was a decent daily actually. Yeah so as it turns out, the US version of the Focus for that period was completely different to the Euro version. If you Google something like "2005 Focus ST UK" you'll see what I mean. They were a 3dr or 5dr hatchback and ran a 2.5L turbocharged I5 from Volvo, the ST made like 220hp but then there was an RS version that made 300hp. I've seen plenty tuned North of 400hp so those engines have a lot of potential, not to mention the sound! Always remember the Top Gear review from back in the day with the bright orange one 😂
Hi there, do you think this car is better than the E46 in 6 cylinder form?
Great review 👍
Thanks for watching!
I think the E46 will be more driver focused, but the W203 might be the better cruiser, it's potentially a little bit better on fuel too. Just depends what you prefer!
@@FootToPedal Thanks... I do prefer the E46 as there's more info about them (from my experience), they look better than the W203 and the E46's range is more 6 cylinder which means there's more available... That being said, I do admire the solid feeling in the W203...
Yeah I'd say either would be a good choice!
I ended up in this video cause one guy offers my this car in part exchange for my Honda 2.2 ictdi 2004. Completely opposite car. But the Mercedes he’s offering me is in just great condition , at least on the photos. I don’t like inside little bit cause it’s for some older man, i mean im 44 years old but still 😅And is grey inside(great condition, like brand new) but still i think black is much more nicer, and easier for cleaning. Any advice more for this car?
They're really comfortable and practical cars!
The engine is a 1.8L tho
The C55 is not supercharged, only the C32 AMG
Yeah sorry that was my bad, I was thinking of the supercharged 5.4 V8 they used in some other AMGs
Great video,thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
It's not a 2 litre engine. The 180k, 200k and 230k, all share the same basis: the 1800cc block. The compressor and computer differ.
Just bought C180 that looks exactly like this, including plastic wheel covers :D it has 69k KM and hopefully a lot more ahead of
Sounds like a really clean car!
the m111 in the 2001 model is way more reliable than the m271. the 271 has a shit timing chain, it only lasts about 70-200k kms (some have lasted longer). moms w204 c180k 1.6 m271 chain lasted only 140k kms (and the car has very good maintenance history). 2000€ to replace the chain, guides, tensioner, cam gears and crankshaft sprocket, timing was 10deg off with the worn chain
My dad has a 2000 or 2001 c180, that thing has 350K on the clock and it drives better than all the modern shitbox hatches they trying to sell.
Mercedes really built these things with quality in mind
How is the fuel economy?
I think its pretty good on these, between 30 and 40mpg depending on driving style
Thank you very much, thinking of getting one
Good luck with your search!
I love this show so please my friend try to found bmw e34 sedan 1996 or bmw e36 sedan 1999 or mercedes w202 sedan 2002 or mercedes w123 sedan 1984 and thank you for everything
I’ve got a c200 kompressor the coupe version and its not that economical to drive it drinks alot of fuel is it normal or is there a problem with my fuel guage
Likely to be a problem unfortunately if you're experiencing bad fuel consumption, best to get it checked out!
Hey buddy enjoyed the video! Where did u film this??? The roads look so familiar! Cheltenham Tewkesbury roads by any chance??? :) let me know plz 🙏 thank you! 😊
Thanks very much, other side of the country I'm afraid in county Durham.
Looks like County Durham in my opinion, I recognise a few roads
That's a cracking motor!
Isn't it just! Drives very well too!
brilliant, well done foot to pedal!
Thank you Karen!
I will buy it next year for max 5000€ and max 200.000 Kilometers
(A 2006 maybe 2007)
they are better built in europe compared to north america. my 2007 c280 is rusting from the inside out and there's nothing i can do to stop it.
Yeah rust is a huge pain, I think some of the W203s suffered quite badly unfortunately
that's weird; ours is 20 years old, 380K km and zero rust . . .
Hi, is the vehicle automatic
This one was a manual.
Thanks ❤
Mercedes offers cloth interiors?
Not sure its really a thing as much now, but more common when the W203 was around in the more basic trim levels
They certainly offer cloth in their vans!
1.250£? It cost me 3.800€ 😅
Yeah £1250 is definitely very cheap 😂
U call dat cheap lol, although however I’m from the U.S. And I got a 06 C280 for 950 USD XD.
This is the 1.8 m271 engine not the 2.0 m111
Thanks for the correction, I think you're right. There was very mixed information online when I did the research
2.0l m271 supercharged since its a c200k.
It would be a 1.8 if it was a c180
@@samurboi8007 the m271 is 1.8lt the c200k has 163 hp and the c180 has 143 with the same engine
I thinks it's a 1.8L ;)
M271 engine come in more versions actually
1250£ monthly or cash payment?
Yeah cash payment to buy the car
Why are these usually always seen in poor condition?
I think its mainly age related at this point, but also a lot of people used these cars as daily drivers so they are often run into the ground. There are still some good ones out there though!
These were not the best car for sure. The compressor engines have high consumption, there is no space on the back seats for adults and these things rusted into pieces. If you find a good one for peanuts though, go for it.
Yeah fair, at £1,250 I don't think anyone can complain!
I have a c200k
No rust and 200k miles with barely any issues 😄
Surprisingly the engine is in tip top condition with good power with the only issue being an exhaust leak
Have a 270 CDI Avantgarde wagon version. 20YO, 303k miles, no rust, runs and drives like a dream and never had any issues.
I often get over 40mpg on my commute in this car. Since I bought it, the cumulative consumption is 35mpg on over 6000 miles.
Haven't experienced any of those issues you mentioned.
Odd. In the US we regard this era of the nadir of benz quality. And they rusted like a car from the 80s.
I think some people view them like that here tbf, doesn't mean they're all like that though. This example was the polar opposite - comfortable and great to drive, solid body and very cheap. It's really perfect as a cheap daily!
w203 is a fantastic car, but is a typical German, and is expensive with repairs
looks nice , that's about it tbh
😂
You, little boy, knows nothing! Mercedes is a rusty, unquality German product. This model rust extremely fast and it's not reliable at all.I know it, because I own this garbage for long time
Ok
And again it's you who don't take care of it. So don't tell us this car is rubbish.
@@justicetheartist6386 Did you found any new game on playstation?😄
I think you own skateboard, just thfc up boy, talking garbage,2003 to 2007 the rust was solved and compared to E46 rubbish with cheap plastic interior and cracking sound interior,W203 it s the best sedan choice you can do and it s more expensive compared to E46
This car is too nice to be a beater, if we're understanding the word beater the same way. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's not good anymore, if anything it's better made than most cars on the road now. Sadly the further in the past you go, the more well made cars seem to be, and made to last.
This car survived to this day in a very good contition, so please take care of it !
1.8 not 2.0
