Nice camera angles, definitely made the landings a joy to watch. By the way, some American Airlines fleet still seem to be painted in US Airways livery 😮
Love the DC 9 and MD series. I got to fly on a Delta MD -80 or DC-9 I forget which) several years ago as we flew into this same airport. An airline pilot I know was really glad to switch to the A-320, as he called the Douglas planes clunky and harsh.
I grew up on the other side of that bridge in MD, it's route 95. The shots are mostly from a park, Gravelly Park, at the end of the run way and you can feel the air blast from the aircraft. Used to take my kids before the grew up there as well.
Im going to miss you mad dog, by the pass of 10 years this back engine aircrath are going to be all retired. same with all the trijet, such as the md-11, boeing B727. The MD-80 family is one of the safetist aircrath to fly.
It's a shame that the Maddog's days in service around the world are getting numbered. It is a proven aircraft family that has a safety and reliability record that is superior to both the 737 and A320 and they are sturdier and rated for far more cycles as well. Luckily the MD-90 and 717 will live on for awhile.
This a have almost no expiration date like you said. Early A320s already scrapped but this MDs still flying. I think this MDs are more capable on shot runways because they have plenty of power for its size, so in some routes, this planes still worth keeping. Or in at airports with extreme heat, humidity or altitude where engines wont preform to the best, still plenty of room on the MD family. Also on the 95 IAE is offering upgrades for the V2500s to enhace fuel consuption, keeping this jets on bussiness. Douglas heaters will hate MDs .. but the REAL FACTS: ... MD-11 ? flying. Even some DC-10-30s .. flying. MD80s and 90s ... Flying. And on top of that even DC-3 are still in service. Where are the other planes ... yep ... on the boneyard.Of course DC-10 gave so much trouble. But appart from the cargo door is all about DOUGLAS MANAGMENT and poor maintenance. And MD-11 dificult landings are a consequence of airlines wanting more range and less fuel consuption so reducing the surface on the tail. The airframe and design, as it, is unmatched. I flew one in Alitalia. Solid take off, insane rocketing. when you take a plane and you are not used to flight like I was, this power is what you expect, bring you confidence on the machine. I flew back on a half cargo 767 (IBERIA) and we had a very bad experience, plane took 30 minutes to climb to a decent level (I could see the city and the streets !!!) and the noise, and vibrations was so insane that the compartments start to open and thing fell off. After that I talked to a flight atendant and told me "we are a bit OVERLOADED" .... oh ... yes this gave more confidence. MD-11 anytime for me, even if overloaded have plenty of power. The fly cargo. Sure the take of overeight every single time, this machines take the abuse like champs. That the reason because most MD-11 are in service. They are WORKHORSES. Sorry for the long ... My favorite planes for sure together with L1011 and 707 and 727.

Love those old work horses! Flew on a DC-9 several years ago into this same airport.

Well born Douglas planes, still in operation, still flying, proven airframe, unbeaten design and plenty of power for short runways.
Best video yet!
every landing looked very rough, can these planes not be landed smoothly?
Sexy plane. It's like flying on a big LearJet.
I keep saying the same !!!. it like a bussiness jet but for passangers. So sleek and sexy with it T tail.
Cool catch!
I'm betting those are mostly flights in from Atlanta, I arrived at DCA quite a few times on that flight. Good times.
Andrew Tubbiolo Detroit, Minneapolis, and Boston are some others.
Nice job! Great video.
Thank you Dave 👍
