Just because most of them aren't canon now and very few are showcased in the movies doesn't mean they aren't there. An example would be the beasts with tentacles from episode 7. Ewoks themselves are a violent race and the only thing that saved the rebels is a golden protocol droid that happens to know a language similar enough to their own that they can partially understand them. Wookies on the other hand might be a warrior race but they don't eat their enemies.

+TheSmashMaster9000 Dude there are plenty of violent and dangerous alien species in the Star Wars universe. Just because most of them aren't canon now and very few are showcased in the movies doesn't mean they aren't there. An example would be the beasts with tentacles from episode 7. Ewoks themselves are a violent race and the only thing that saved the rebels is a golden protocol droid that happens to know a language similar enough to their own that they can partially understand them. Wookies on the other hand might be a warrior race but they don't eat their enemies.

Chio Chan Genocide I think he originally wanted the Wookies to appear instead. My guess is that he wanted a more child friendly option to go with his family series vision which resulted in the Ewoks and eventually Jar Jar Binks.
