Lyrics:
Well, I stand up next to a mountain
And I chop it down with the edge of my hand
Well, I stand up next to a mountain
Chop it down with the edge of my hand
Well, I pick up all the pieces and make an island
Might even raise just a little sand
'Cause I'm a voodoo child
Lord knows I'm a voodoo child - Видеоклипы
Normally people who are called the "best" at something are overrated but in Jimi's case the best is an understatement
Isn't it funny that Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page, and others never-EVER-came up with a compilation like this. Now people want to 'negate' the song because Stevie Ray Vaughan did a cover version--to which I say, write the map, don't follow the established path. BTW--nothing against Clapton, Santanta, Page & Vaughan. All Great guitarists int their own right.
+bjclark1017 yeah
Maybe because he is self thought, he developed a stile of his own, turned what in my language we call addictions (stuff you learned wrong and so keep making wrong) into new stuff. Not sure he's self thought but I heard it sometimes and to me it makes tons of sense.
@@bjclark1017 Santana had a T shirt on a concert with Jimi's face on it.

Sonic Heaven. There's something about Jimi. The way he dances between electric blues and cosmic chaos. Visceral and transcendent.
You gave the best explanation of his playing and music
A warlock spirit driving him.
OMG this is good, he dance between electric blues and cosmic chaos.......
And the way his body moves with it. It's a total blitzkrieg.

I have been listening to various types of music for the past 50 years, and I still don't know of anyone who can produce this kind of tsunami of sound other than Jimi. 51 years after his death, Jimi still dominates the electric guitar like no other guitar god ever had. This is not guitar, this is a cosmic cataclysm, electric feedback supernova being swallowed by a gigantic distortion black hole.
Check out Joe Bonamassa he is more blues than classic rock but pretty amazing

We have to go back at least as far as Mozart to find a musician on this plane. It won't be until after another 3 or 4 centuries before humanity gets another giant like them.

There's no way a human being could play like that... ever. Jimmy Hendrix was from another dimension.
I think God took him somewhere and showed him maybe thousands of years of what other guitarists had produced and brought him back to the next moment or the next day...whatever. Each one of us is literally a star and exists in his own dimension. God will bring those dimensions into overlap anytime it suits his purpose. You notice that the four gospels have slightly different perspectives. Perhaps what occurred in one man's dimension didn't happen in another man's dimension. Witnesses usually don't agree on ALL the details.

He provided the blueprint for ALL future rock guitarist and beyond
To me he transcended the instrument & transcended technique. . He had a direct connection from his head to his heart to his hands unlike any other. he also played the right music at the right time ala Sgt Pepper days after it's release, Like A Rolling Stone at Monterey, Machine Gun New Years eve at Fillmore east, and Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock and July 4 at Atlanta Pop Fest. His emotion and feelings came pouring out thru the gutar.

Not necessrily psychodelic but the blues and Rock and Roll he reinterpreted into amazing results with his playing and imagination and technical prowess.

I never heard something again. This is Art. Forever in my heart ❤️
When Hendrix is playing this song he wrote he is improvising and inventing. The sounds, tones, use of feedback and distortion as well as the riffs and technique are coming from his mind and soul and fingers in the moment. What SRV was doing no matter how impressive was copying after the fact. That is a major difference when you try and compare the two. Hendrix did not need an SRV to become Hendrix. Without Hendrix, SRV would have been a very different player.
Steve was great but so true😳🤪🤩😝🙄🤙😛
I believe Stevie to be a spiritual successor to Jimi, he took what Jimi gave to the world and made it his own.
I'm sure if Hendrix had lived and seen him, he would agree that he was a master of the instrument. Then again, one can wonder what he could have done with the new stuff that was discovered in the 70's
Kenneth Nielsen regardless if SRV copied Hendrix or not, SRV will always be the more skilled player. To me at least. Creativity wise no one can beat hendrix
SRV borrowed a lot from Johnny Winter as well. Jimi defined what the electric guitar was and would be after he was gone. Light years ahead of everyone. The Stratocaster was invented for Jimi by Leo Fender, the MARSHALL amp was invented for JIMI by Jim Marshall. Neither men knew that at the time, but it became true. I am certain JIMI, just by using these, sold more Marshalls and Strats than any person that has ever lived Jimi was the prototype and blueprint of a great and gifted rock guitarist. Strangely, never to be eclipsed or equaled.
Thank you ✌🙏
Hendrix simply...............GOAT.

It was a great festival. The Allman Bros. played, and a new band was introduced by Alex Cooley, Grand Funk Railroad! The heat was rough during the day, so the OD tent was busy. You could walk along the way and see pot dealers with huge moving boxes full of goods selling without fear of police. There was a small lake and a river where nude bathing and swimming was going on. Off the main concert area there were camp grounds where people would gather to party and jam music. It was the closest thing to utopia ever! May of been the best pop festival ever, way better than Woodstock!
@@steveikerd7 I've been to many festivals in the '60s-'70s and when you mentioned the OD tent I know what you mean. We used to call it the 'freak-out tent' and they could get quite busy!

Jimi was, and Will always be a legend. Jimi was an incredibly humble man, and The way he played guitar was incredible, especially in a time in which rock was still a vague and sometimes misunderstood concept. It is difficult to put into words how much he succeed in making new, unique and complex sounds which were almost alien in nature. I, and many others, are so incredibly lucky to be alive in a time where all of his music, and all of any music for that matter, is available to anyone with internet service and a video streaming plat form.

Billy Cox really was the best bass player for Jimi. IMO
+Benjamin D. McMillan - I agree. Noel never played bass before he joined the Experience and had a "by the numbers" approach to playing. Cox's playing is more soulful and accented. And on the later songs more inventive.
+Alex Yamach yes. Totally. Billy had groove and feel.
+Benjamin D. McMillan Totally Disagree. Noel was on fire, better check out the Stockholm performances. Especially Killing Floor. Neither Noel or Mitch got the respect they deserved. I hate people comparing artists. They all have their qualities, Noel had more than his share for so-called never being a bass player prior.
If you ever heard Noel's guitar playing you would know why his bass playing wasn't that good. His skills on both instruments were limited. He was just adequate on both.
Agreed. Noel Redding was a failed guitar player who was jealous of all the attention Jimi got.

It's almost like the electric guitar was invented for him and him alone...
+Art Hunter well, me too..... It's like my blood line.... I can't live with out it....
+Art Hunter I'd say he invented it - prior to him it was just a guitar with its sound amplified by electricity - after him it was The Electric Guitar.
+Art Hunter It's like, Jimi taught the world how to play the electric, lead guitar!
Not like, he did. Taught himself and even played the it upside down because he couldn't afford a left handed guitar. What a legend and real humble too...
+Art Hunter So true
The cosmic vitality I feel when I listen to this is indescribable.
It's more than music as I knew it before. It really was an "experience". Jimi approached the guitar from the bottom of his imagination, nothing about it is predictable like the cliched riffs others work with. God bless him, My soul soars whenever I listen, it never gets stale, and I've been listening to Jimi since 68. Unbelievable.
Don’t get me wrong, I love SRV but, he’s in heaven getting guitar lessons from Jimi.
@@peakbagger6805 I wouldn't say equaled. I've never heard ANYONE make the sounds Jimi made. You listen to enough concerts, not just studio albums and you'll be floored at the gems you'll find. I have some and had them up but youtube took them down for 'inappropriate content' whatever that means.
@@RetroFan I agree Jimi sound always sounds full. When other people try and cover Jimi songs they always sound like something is missing. Jimi just had so many notes coming out of his guitar at one time, it was like he had a orchestra in his guitar. There is on guy who does Jimi songs justice and that's Randy Hansen he covers alot of Jimi's songs and he's not bad doing it.

The version from Royal Albert Hall that flows into Room Full of Mirrors is a KILLER.
Look you want to know why Jimi Hendrix was so good at playing the guitar and really anything it's because we was born with a very creative mind and when you blend that with playing guitar you get Jimi Hendrix, now he was left handed and left handed people are usually more creative than right handed people so that's why he always came up with these small ideas when he was playing.
