My outsider take, there's a difference between hiring a football coach and hiring a football CEO. This is the CEO era of coaching and a lot of the game prep, recruiting, player development, etc. is delegated. Who has demonstrated they can manage a $100 million-a-year football organization and grow it in the modern era? That should be the decision.

I'm pro rod and have forgave him for 2007 but there's to many people that only read headlines and don't actually read anything. I'm going to support whoever wren decided to hire but I'm holding out for ol rich rod. We are not electing a HC. Talk about making WB's job tough, is he supposed to take a fan poll before he hires a coach. If RR is hired and he wins like we know he can...the hard feelings will be forgotten. Of options we have heard about RR is by far the best selection. Most any fan would say that when they look at the list. If RR does not work out I don't think Wren would have a problem replacing him. The reason RR is popular with donors is because of what he accomplished here. His former players support him because they feel like he help make them successful . He led them to so many great moments and memories for both them and WVU. This is WB's decision and forgetting about the past , how could he not choose RR from the list we've seen? WB will surely be doomed if he panders to fans, who no matter who he chooses will find ways to criticize his choice. I wish the list had a few more choices, that would be what I would question, but still to me RR is our best choice.

I honestly do not look at the past to determine if RR should be the next WVU coach, and money should not be the major determining factor as to which coach we choose. I am not sure if his offense would work as well today in the Big 12 as it once did when he was coaching WVU. I am also not thrilled if he is the best candidate available but that does not mean he is the right one. I would have preferred the coach from Penn State and we could have waited for him. I will support the team no matter who they hire but I believe he would have a shorter leash than most because of his head coaching experience and what would be expected in immediate win totals if he returns.

@ I was just looking at the 2026 season and it reminded me of when rich rod came to WVU the first time . Our 2nd season under him we went and played a tough Wisconsin team on the road and some of the best Maryland teams including that 02 team that made the sugar bowl vs Florida . And it made us a better team and made us grow from the experience . Well next year we have a normal non conference schedule like his first year where we played 2 mac schools for 2 of our only 3 wins his first year . We go at Ohio , play Pitt at home and a 1aa school . Hopefully we can work some kinks out and gel with the transfer portal .
Ok well in 2026 we open up with Alabama who will be like a Wisconsin we played that 2nd year and we also play in Charlotte vs uva which I’m thinking about getting tickets already to . That will be about like a Maryland game or so . Hopefully we can beat them . We also played a great cincy team that had a qb named Gino gadaully that we hung on to beat that year . Then after that as we all remember we only lost to Miami and went 9-3 . We won back to back games at Pitt and vt on the road to end the season . Some of the best WVU football of my life . we were nothing special but had a good hard running offense with our best rb of all time at WVU in yards Avon cobourne .
Things start getting eerily similar when you look at them

Like you, given the coaching pool this cycle (which is severely underwhelming) I’m firmly in the RR camp. I was open to a host of candidates but now that it’s down to JM and AB…I don’t even see this as a close call. JM will bring a boring (NB esque type of offense, AB will bring who knows what because he has almost zero HC experience). WB is likely getting pressure but he shouldn’t be because of the disparity in candidates…this should be a no brainer. If WB hires JM or AB, I see this as being more spiteful than anything. Nothing he’s done so far as AD shows that he’d do that but what other conclusion can you come to. RR IS the best candidate left.

Say this show right here is exactly why I told you guys to hold your horses. Complete and utter inpatients by some of you all I've been saying from the get-go how many candidates Ren Baker can have on his list it's at least going to be 2 weeks. You got to think every one of these coaches is at another Squad right now very few of them are there seasons over so even if you could do some initial ones over Zoom you might not be able to do more than two a day and then in the second cut if you're flying out to meet people then you've got time eating up Justin travel time play folks we've said from the get-go Ben Baker is a process guy he has a process he's going to stick to his process does it mean it's not rich Rodriguez no I think anybody who didn't make the First Cut Is property already looking for something else. Many of these coaches are either involved in teams with bowl games or they're involved with teams in the college football playoffs. If we want to be a Class Act we will wait on those coaches to complete their obligation. We don't want to be like some other universities have been in the past and try to poach a coach while he is still needed by the other school for this season. So anybody who knows this is going to know if it's a coach of the college football playoff we're talking in January before he even gets to do much here. I'm sorry that nobody likes that but y'all didn't want to fire Neil Brown at the Midway point at the bye week like I had been saying you should do so because we wouldn't pull that trigger early we now have to live through this process and if you can't handle it you don't need to be on Twitter every day I promise when we have an announcement somebody will tell you the news and then you can come back and watch the analysis here

Brian Hartline please. I can’t accept RR back in Morgantown. He left us behind, it doesn’t matter about the reasons why he left. Eventually he would have got what he wanted,
“You never leave your wing man.” “It’s about Mountaineer Pride”. He crapped on us and now you guys want to make him the highest paid employee in the state, it physically disgusts me.

So I’m not thrilled about RR. The way he left and the off the field stuff is still leaving that bad taste in my mouth. But life goes on and what’s meant to be will be.
Personally, I think this came down to what the pool of candidates dwindled down to and money. I think Wren had his list and the people on the top of that list didn’t work out. And if what everyone is saying is true, RR contract is probably going to end up at about $2.5 mil a year. Compare that to the $4 mil Brown was making and you save a lot of money. Probably will help pay off his buyout in the instance that the rumor of someone with lots of money volunteered to pay it isn’t true… lol
I was on the side of something new and fresh but maybe that wasn’t out there to get right now. This is a business decision and I sure hope Wren made the right one.
    Regardless, let’s go Mountaineers!

Most of these guys have histories, we know what those histories are.....maybe their choices are dragging things out for more money? I'd like to see Saban as AD, Dick Rod ( if it has to be ) as HC and Schumann as DC , with the goal of grooming Schumann as the heir apparent HC in a couple of years......Saban is a stretch even as AD, I know he's 72, but old as the hills Dooley worked out well for Georgia as their AD after he left coaching. I don't care for Baker , tbh.

I don’t agree with you. Took wren a full season to terminate Neal. Should’ve fired 2 seasons back. Good hires in other college sports doesn’t equal football. Football makes the most money. At the end of the day you hire another offensive cord, or a group of 5 coach that’s hasn’t proven nothing other than win at a lower level deserves that criticism. Sorry but if Wren makes a bad choice and they lose immediately, he doesn’t deserve his spot at wvu. Rich rod is the best candidate, hire him already
