I'm just blown away how informative these tutorials are. Makes me feel good about every penny I spent on FabFilter plug-ins.

I’m shocked at the quality of your videos. Usually when I look at RUclips tutorials is usually people talking about topics they have rudimentary understanding of just for views, to build a platform or not really wanting to give away too much information. You my friend are a true teacher of the arts. That reverb automation is just crazy never thought of that. Simple yet extremely effective. Your explanation of things are so clear and precise. I don’t normally write comments but I had to for this.
Their tutorial are very inspirational. Brief and clear! I try to do that same way in my channel, because I hate the way your wrote ("people talking about topics they have rudimentary understanding of just for view"). But for small Czech market :-)

Blown away by this.. somehow through explaining the concepts of reverb, you also get introduced to the actual plugin's functionality. I wish all plugin "tutorials" were like this. This is the gold standard. A+

so amazing how Dan just casually explains concepts in a way I have never seen them explained before and they just make so much more sense in a realistic scenario. The predelay was the best example for that IMO. I always thought of it as a "don't wash up the initial transience" kinda tool which is what it does but doesn't really describe what that actually means but seeing the logic behind it with a big room but still close up sound source makes the concept so much clearer and more logical.
A little caveat to reverb making things sound like they're "towards the back":
What really makes sound sources appear closer or further away is the amount of *timbral detail* in their signal. Reverb can accomplish this, but only when its signal (with lessened timbral detail) begins to overshadow the direct source (with more timbral detail).
To make things sound further away, I usually will usually use a subtractive parametric EQ to cut frequencies that contain timbral detail detail. Typically high-mid frequencies between 2-5kHz
There is complex of things that makes sound more distant - eq, dynamic range and transients, width of source and width of early reflections/reverb tail, and very important is contrast with other elements of the mix.
Fab filter tutorials always step well beyond the "turn this for more/less". Dan IS the man.
I am still surprised by some things I already know. I think the fact that it can be explained so easily and how going over old knowledge keeps you aware of it is what makes Dan and his videos so god damn good.

I'm no where near a beginner yet I know I will learn something listening to Dan :-)
what strikes me in almost every video od Dan's is that all of the things he talks about makes a difference but it all still sounds great if the music is good.
So what I think I need to do as a musician is focus mainly on the music, lets say 70% of the way and try to get the arrangement and the parts all right. Then I do the best I can with mixing. Where I have a couple jobs to do which include:
1. deciding on where I want each part to be placed/perceived. Depth and width can be played with using pan, reverb and phase trickery using EQ plugins.
2. Balancing the levels for all the different sections of the piece
3. Eq the parts slightly if they seem to fight for space
4. Compression (im not sure what this is exactly gonna achieve except make everything louder) need to learn more
Then I mix all the parts down into one Track and do a master eq such that it sounds decent in the car, from the phone speaker, earbuds, what have you, and not just my monitors. Oops should have checked for Mono compatibility before i mixed it down.
And lastly slap a limiter on it and make sure the loudness is not too far away from other tracks in the same style on Spotify
This is the best presentation of these kinds of mixing techniques I've ever seen on the internet.

I keep coming back to these videos every year or so, and I'm always amazed at how in depth and well done they are, as well as how much more nuance my ears pick up over the years. Anyway I always end up learning something new or gaining a new perspective.
I'm about to binge watch this entire mixing and mastering playlist...I've watched a lot of tutorials about music production some better than others, but this guy knows his stuff and knows how to explain it...it's not over my head, but I'm still learning something new in every video

Simply awesome! Reverb is one the hardest things to get right but this tutorial really shows how it can manipulate the acoustic space of the recording and totally change the emotional response of the listener. Massive thanks to Dan and Fabfilter
reverb is the hardest? low cut and sidechain helps for me. mixing piano for mono is the hard challenge

Another masterpiece from Mr. Worrall! Pro-R is the only reverb that doesn't make me feel like I'm compromising something. There's always some unpleasant tone or character to even the best, most iconic reverbs, but Pro-R gives us total control of everything you could ever want in a reverb. The only time I use anything else anymore is if I'm running something live through my Apollo and am stuck with UAD verbs. Mastering Pro-R and a good variety of saturation FX (Klanghelm's SDRR is about 12 in 1) limits the need for compression and EQ, which are usually the first two tools that most people grab first. Got to hand it to FF and Dan. Pro-DS was the best de-esser available, but now I use Airwindows DeEss, which blows it away. I put it at the top of the FX receive for any track with vocals or cymbals with FX that cause problematic sibilance. I set it to its highest setting, which you can do because it's not just a targeted MB compressor. It actually smooths out the sibilant waveforms without affecting the rest of the signal in the frequency range. Then, when I mix back in the raw track, it ads just enough of a natural sounding sibilant that doesn't linger. FabFilter, Klanghelm, and Airwindows make a beautiful team!
I feel the same thing - level and reverb (and right amount of saturation/preamp gain) is much more important than eq and compression!
Very cool with that Sends tip pertaining to helping to highlight the various vocal sections of the track. That tiled room was driving me batty but i know you kept these examples a bit Wet to get the points across. Thanks for this one!

nice. i read about a full 3d positional raytracing system, which was applied to a FPS game. i could imagine reverb for music being done same way, where the size/shape and materials of room are fully specified in 3D space, including auditory characteristics for the materials.

TheVimFuego Yup, which app are you using for the iOS? I’ve checked out Auria and I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting Auria and all the FabFilter plugins for iOS in the near future! It is really amazing that we can do the same in an iOS device as in a bigger system.
@@JorgeSilvestriniI have Auria and the FF plug ins but to be honest I don't use it much and prefer the workflow of Cubasis and freeform jamming in AUM or Apematrix. It's worth the investment if you are serious about music making, I'm more a casual jammer these days due to other priorities (family, etc). It is amazing what we can do on iOS.
TheVimFuego Completely agree and understand. To me, just the fact that I could edit and mix an entire song is the selling point. All inside of the iPad and take it anywhere. Now, if Ableton decides to come to the iPadOS then I’m done and won’t need a laptop.
