  • Classic spring weekend backcountry ski touring in the heart of the Ruby Mountains, Nevada. Sunny and warm, there was plenty of corn to go around. We were pleasantly surprised to find some cold snow still lingering on the steeper north faces!

How long is the hike in? Nice video, those peaks must be buried this year!

I bet you are right, the Rubies are smothered! It was roughly 5K of climbing over 5 miles, but the route is a bit convoluted. I could send you a map if you are interested

@skiingthebasin have you done Mt Charleston down by Vegas? It would be the most southern peak(big) of the basin I believe, and this would be the year

Not yet! Charleston is the most prominent peak in NV, can't wait to make it down there. There is one peak further south on my list, but it doesn't compare to Charleston. Hoping to make it that way this spring!

Hey there! Which boots do You use to drive deathwish? Is it scarpa f1? I ask because I pair them with BlackCrows Orb freebirds, but for these season I bought DWT. Are they fine for this? I like them and don't want to change... :)
    Great, great movies!
    Greetings from polish Tatras, Bartek.

Thank you Bartłomiej! Yes, I do use the F1 on my DWT (length 179cm). Funny enough I also have a pair of the Black Crows Orb Freebirds, and I think that the F1 is a stellar all-around boot for both ski setups. I was worried the F1 wouldn't have enough power for the bigger DWT, but I have been very impressed with the combo. If you know you like the F1, then I think you can't go wrong. The DWT is just a phenomenal ski.
The Tatras look like incredible terrain!

Thank You for such a fast answer!
I've had the same doubts about the F1, but now, seeing you driving fat planks with them, I just can't wait to try it!
Tatras are great, our small Alps. :)

@@skiingthebasin I was thinking the same thing as the guy above. think the F1 could drive the 184cm DW? I guess the 5cm is trivial, just afraid to commit.

@@wesleymoore2548 ah tough decisions and I certainly don't want to lead you astray! My experience skiing the F1 on the 179 DWT was that they matched very well. The F1 has such a nice progressive flex that pairs well with the DWT's soft and rockered tips and tails. After 90+ days in the backcountry with that setup, I just recently changed boots to the new Dynafit Radical. I made the change primarily so I could future-proof myself for even bigger skis. Now I actually feel like I overpower the DWT tips with the stiffer boot, not an issue I had with the F1s!
Overall, the DWT is such a stellar ski. I do wish I had sized up to the 184. All that tip and tail off the snow makes it ski very short. For reference I am 5'9", 145.
