  • Learn how to kill dallisgrass in the lawn without killing the grass. Dallisgrass is a perennial weeds that is difficult to control (but not impossible). There are some options. In this video, I am using Tribute Total as well as dismiss (sulfentrazone) amzn.to/49JRgpU. I also used a little 41% glyphosate. amzn.to/3MVARVD Fall is a great time to control dallisgrass in the lawn. Don't use glyphosate unless on dormant bermuda grass. Hopefully, the tips in this video will help you control this nasty weed in the lawn. The links I provided to the products are affiliate links.

I used a mix of mesotrione (Tenacity) and a weak mixture of glyphosate and it seems to have worked without totally killing my KBG/rye. With a little overseeding my lawn is nearly Dallisgrass free.

Depending on how much Dallisgrass you have, in my opinion, it’s easier to cut it out with a cordless reciprocating saw (with a flexible 12” cutting blade) than digging it out with a shovel. It’s a surgical extraction and kind of fun. I now look forward to finding it (ha!). I can cut out 20 or so clumps of Dallisgrass (and its rootball) in about 30 to 40 minutes. Once I pull out the weedplug, I scrape the dirt off the weed and refill the hole.

@@a_blind_sniper If you have well defined Dallisgrass weed shapes, surrounded by good lawn grass, an inexpensive Chinese reciprocating saw (from Amazon) is hard to beat as an extraction device. If you have areas where the Dallisgrass has totally taken over, MSMA will kill it, so that you can reseed/sod in the same season, where as glyphosate (Round-Up) will sterilize the soil for a year (or longer). Good luck

I first discovered your channel years ago, looking for a solution for Dallisgrass. I am in Atlanta area, and mine survived a lawn service, and after I fired them, Round up. I am going to try again. Not sure I am going to invest in the Tribute, might maybe. Love your channel!

Jayson, I have a green out back with golf flag. So I used msma to wipe out a huge dallis grass infestation. I say 95% gone and easy to find the 6 or 8 clumps left in 24,000 feet. Could I hit it in SC with it again if I have a warm day? Maybe raise the rate to spot treat?

I don't think msma would do so good this time of year even on a warmer day. We're just six or eight clumps you could even use a shovel. But for a chemical I would probably go with glyphosate or the mixture I used in the video

I had a bunch of Dallisgrass, so I took my cordless reciprocating saw (with a 12" flex blade) and began cutting it out, one clump at a time. Once I cut a circle around the plant and lifted the weed/dirtball out of the ground, I scraped the dirt off the weed's roots, threw the weed in garbage and put dirt back in the hole (about 90 seconds per weed). I've got about 5 hours invested in eliminating the Dallisgrass and the problem is now totally gone.
