If anyone deserves an Oscar it's him, my dad boxed I followed in his footsteps until he passed away and I gave it up completely wouldn't even watch boxing much less a boxing movie until my wife literally made me watch this and I'm very hard headed but his performance in this movie has inspired me to put the gloves back on so if anybody deserves an Oscar its Jake Gyllenhaal

Guys oscars and even awards in general are pretty messed up.
I've seen 12 and I could not agree more. He deserves one. When he goes into character he is *unrecognizable*. I can't even see a trace of any of his other characters or himself. That takes some amazing talent.

He is part Swedish after all. That's where the family name originates from. I believe either Jake or Maggie was on that ancestry show where they try to find where your family came from.

DarkCreatorn That ancestry show they explain that at one time one of their ancestors were give a title along with his last name. His last name was Haal, if I remember right it either the king of Sweden or like a magistrate gave him the title golden which in swedish means Gyllen. So the ancestors name was formely Haal but was changed to Gyllenhaal something like that.

He deserves an oscar so very much. I was never a big fan of boxing movies because the end can be either a win or a loss but this movie HOLY SHIT, is amazing!!! He made me feel what the character felt, truly impeccable.

It was a little too corny for me, definitely a chick flick. The boxing scenes only make up like 20% of the film.
