  • 5120x2880 available. A tale of two worlds. We have never monetized any video, so hopefully ad-issues are kept to a minimum. If you wish to support you can now do so on Patreon. This is a documentary exploring the forces and narratives behind a widely commented-on migration of Chinese Eve players from the Serenity Server (China) to the world-wide Tranquility server. It covers a number of campaigns in the second half of 2017, where the worlds briefly, and unexpectedly, touched.

This video was totally amazing! I had so many mixed emotions evolving throughout the video. I’ve never played this game, but I felt myself actually in the game as if I were two people, one on each side. You can really feel the desperation and struggle of the rebels and the desire to conquer of the winning side. I actually teared up for the rebels because they were completely obliterated. All the time they’ve invested in the game, pouring their hearts into it and just seeing all their friends and allies brought down. I just hope the game doesn’t die because of the complete domination :/
Great job man, and awesome narration!
I feel like this would be a great two part movie. One part showing before they were a dominant power and they’re quest to spread their power from their perspective. The other part would be basically this video, but clips of people on both sides, both regular pilots and commanders.

      @darknagafen 6 лет назад +21

There is indeed plenty to sympathise with on the rebel side, too. I enjoy the determined melancholy of the Lead Queen or Starchaser's never-say-die stand. Eve is a murky world and virtue is subjective. That's part of what makes all this worth documenting.
I definitely wouldn't rule out the idea of a second part one day if people wanted it, which could include following the fate of the rebels on Tranquility. As for the other matter you suggest, regarding the time before PIBC was a dominant power, it would also be interesting to tell the story of the 'Rise of PIBC'.
The main challenge there is that although I've known Fulcrum for seven or eight years now, our initial collaboration was via voice on RnK Teamspeak. When we hatched a plan together, he simply told me what happened or I
learned about it on killboards, screenshots and AARs. It's only in the last four years that I sometimes joined him directly on the field - the effect of which being to build up an archive of footage of key events, from which this video draws in clips like those of 49-U.
Also, to tell the PIBC story from the very beginning would require going back before the 2008 Sichuan earthquake (where key personnel were missing and feared lost). I'll have to see how much footage of the earliest era exists,
although I suppose given that this video is mostly only a few campaigns during 2017, there is plenty of material for the middle.
Anyway, I'd expect the next video to be closer to home but I would like to feature Serenity and its soldiers again.

At the moment about 30 IIRC with reasonable performance. CGI are promising thousands like Eve but at obviously 20 or 30 times the Eve 1Hz server tick and with thousands of times more data.. They keep promising 'miracle' technology to accomplish this like server meshing, blind culling and object container streaming. It's always delayed though.

Mind blown. Fantastic production. The chinese scene is far out. I have no experience with them in EvE, but I do in other pvp games. Their mixture of uniform totalitarianism/aggressive nationalism on one hand, and hardcore materialism/thirst for status on the other, makes for some rather mindbending material.

So on Western servers, I think following the tradition of high fantasy MMORPGs that started all this, you basically have, feudalism, right, players haven't had their bourgeois revolution where their groups are uh, democracies, and, public companies within a company's server. It's the rise and fall of groups of nobles centered around crypto-monarchies/oligarchies. But in China, instead, they recreate the Chinese Civil War, in their server, and then exile the factions approximating the RoC, into Tranquility. And one of the factions, instead of leaving Space China upon their defeat, burns all their ships, they digitally mass self-immolate. That is, epic, that is space opera, that's Wrath of Khan. That is epic. Holy SHIT I love reading about this game.

As a matter of honor and also to know that no matter where you go there will be content waiting for you. At that period of time as a member of PIBC most of the time their pilots would hope to run in to some of the rebels because when there is no enemies there is nothing to do and fighting NPCs just doesn't cut it once you've got the taste for blood. Often times in tranquility server if a large dominant force runs out of targets to kill they turn on each other simply for their own amusement and to generate content. I have seen goon swarm assemble of fleet that ended up not being necessary and they ended up just calling targets of their own fleet and then eventually breaking up into packs and clashing with each other.

A long time ago, I took part an earlier use of this gateway, but to travel from Tranquillity to Serenity along with a small horde of SHC/FHC Bittervets, The Much Crying Old Experts. The Chinese players were fantastic to us, helped us in many ways, it's nice to know that they managed the reverse journey and now hunt in Tranquillity's dark spaces. And whilst I realise that Fulcrum has been tied in with you Maldoror, there is a certain sadness and discordance in seeing you of all people producing what can only be seen as a tale of the larger force overwhelming and finally crushing their long term enemies, bringing only darkness in their wake. Still, a great and informative vid as always, do keep it up.

Well, Numbers was just one component I suppose. Remember that RnK use to deploy in fleets that were vastly more valuable then the masses they were fighting. That's what gave them the edge. But now a days, most alliances have a number of "blingy" fleets. Machariels, Nightmares are pretty common place. And morso ontop of that, we live in the age of the supercapital umbrella.

Think of this as a documentary about a series of campaigns and events on Serenity that briefly brought the servers together. Fulcrum is both a core RnK member and a member of PIBC command. But Serenity is his original home and this is essentially his story. PIBC wasn't always The Empire, of course - it took a lot of work from Fulcrum and his crew to make it that. The situation certainly wasn't anything like it is today when I first came to know him and we became friends. That said, in the context of this campaign you could indeed make the case we're in a mirror universe flying with Darth Vader :)

I like to think of it as an alternate reality, one where one good friend of RnK essentially 'rules' that universe. It's always awesome to see other RnK members taking names in other games as well, the whole Bloodbowl thing made me lol.
I wish there were some more awesome moments like in Clarion Call 3 when you guys take over Nova. That is hands down my favorite video-- that or Mister K. Freaking genius. Still, to this day I don't think I have more respect for any other group in gaming. I like to compare the relationship between the elite RnK members to the group in Overlord, Ainz Ooal Gown, and their tight-knit, 41 player guild that did awesome things in that light-novel/anime. And I mean the core group that Lord Maldoror played with. I don't have the time nor the disposable income I used to spend on eve, so seeing you guys still at it is very nostalgic.
You know, I don't think we'd mind watching other videos, stuff non-eve related is always welcome. It's not the game itself that's interesting, it's your frame of mind, the interactions, the strategy and thought behind your actions that makes it interesting. That and that silky-smooth narration. I know you don't monetize it but you could probably sell this stuff.

I have piloted under Fawlty7 before when I was in The Watchmen. We were neighbors to his alliance TIKLE and that guys ability to strategically fight in EVE is absolutely impressive. He always seems to know how things are going to play out.

It is interesting to me that you went from fighting as effective underdogs on Tranquility to the literal exact opposite on Serenity.

@Chris Madison What? There were dozens of examples of them crushing fleets three to four times their size.... Especially in the pipebomb era. Maldoror even talks about it on the interview with CCPConvict when they went to defend SirMolle.
Sure there are a lot of cases where they went even, It's true, but they also had a fine legacy of outfighting greater numbers, especially in the earlier years where the larger alliances couldn't afford to have average linemembers flying the extremely expensive fits that RNK were known for in those periods.

The Serenity exodus narrative reminds me of The Golden Path from Dune. Scraps of humanity migrating beyond the edges of the known universe fleeing an all-powerful tyrannical empire (unbeknownst to them, by design of the Emperor) to eventually come back stronger than anything the remains of said empire could ever imagine.
