Pro tip - This planet k218b had water on it 124 years ago, we don't know about right now. A light year is the amount of time it takes for light that has bounced off of something to reach us. If something is 1 light year away from us, we're seeing the light that has bounced off of that object 1 year into the past. K218B is 124 light years away from earth, and that means we're seeing that planet 124 years into the past. Basically think of it like "the farther away something is, the younger it looks". So not only are we seeing this planet 124 years into the past, but it'd take us around 150 years to get there (assuming we can travel at 99.9% the speed of light). So really if we were to go to this planet, we'd need to have a thorough understanding of that planets tectonic plates and weather conditions in order to predict how the planet will look in 274 years and plan the trip there accordingly. The world could have liquid water right now, but 274 years from now it could be in an ice age, the atmosphere could have dissipated causing the planet to become another mars, the possibilities are endless. Unless we're able to develop a technology which allows us to see light years away in REAL TIME, it'll be impossible to accurately map out a world and find ones that are suitable for human life. It sucks but it's true. You're going to need a telescope that works as a particle accelerator except the particle you're accelerating is a particle of light, not an atom. This is all science fiction right now though.
I'm not an expert... But watching and analyzing the video from beginning to end, I cannot say anything because as I said at the beginning, I'm not an expert.
I just returned from an exhausting trip to google, and I'm still out of breath. I found that K2 18b is 124 light years distant. We don't have a prayer at present of even getting to the Alpha Centauri system, 4.3 light years distant, in less than a number of lifetimes. Plus, it orbits a red dwarf, which wouldn't do a whole bunch to warm things up. But, on the upside, we wouldn't have to bring sunglasses, nor have to worry about the dangers of sunburn.
Also we would have to see life on that planet and they don’t say nothing of life on that planet. Wich if we were created of the Big Bang and evolution that planet has to already have life on it.
Insane Curiosity, here on earth, we have 1) an atmosphere, 2) one we can breathe, 3) gravity at the perfect strength, 4) gas giants farther out, which keep us from getting continuously bombarded by meteors, 5) a magnetic field, which keeps cosmic rays and other nasties from reaching us, 6) food, both on the hoof, and on the vine/tree, 7) little critters like bees, which pollinate for free, and worms to aerate the soil--almost like it was all engineered. . . . The chances of all of that coming together on another planet seem to me to be slim to none. Also, you never mentioned, just for curiosity's sake (and maybe others') which star this was found orbiting, and how far away it is.
Also, this planet is massive and thus it's gravity is vastly different. If we were to enter this planets atmosphere we'd plument straight to the ground and hit the ground and become a pancake.
@@SinisterAion Its also 124 light years away so even with our fastest spacecraft currently it would take us around 700,000 years to get there. and since what we are seeing is 124 light years old. what we might see when we get there will/could be drastically different.

Hellstormkj64 999 yes, WE are, to say you definitively know that humans won’t be able to is stupid. Our local super cluster is being smushed together and in a few billion years we’ll collide with andromeda galaxy. But everything outside our local cluster is moving away from us because the universe is still expanding, so yes unless we use dark matter or find a way to travel the speed of light we’ll be confined the this solar system for a hundred or so years, people forget just how much in the last 50 years technology has grown
If were lucky enough to dodge a worldwide calamity within those years then we might since there's lots of ways to prevent it from happening. Fact is that. Humans are stupid too. The space junks we can produce throughout the years. Over population. Someone stupid might trigger the world war 3. Massive and uncontrolled plastic wastes, burning solar waves through the absence of the ozone layer due to air pollution. and some unavoidable ones such as a possible asteroid collision or sickness that can't be cured or a zombie apocalypse triggered by someone stupid.

In general,my advice to scientists is to look for planets in the nebulae where the oxygen spectrum is dominant. That's where hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe is most likely to unite with oxygen, forming water rich worlds.

Actually, Jupiter is about 318 times as massive as Earth. It is also 120 times larger in surface area to that of Earth. However, a figure close to '1200' actually is close to the number of times Jupiter's volume compares with Earth's, being 1320 times as large !

Let's say it is habitable.. if it's 111 light-years away how are we ever gonna get to it? Even if we went the same speed as light it would still take 111 years to get there, the chances that anyone is still gonna be alive on the rocket are supremely low. We would need to travel around 2-3x faster than light to make it before everyone dies, even then we still have to problem with food. Chances are there isn't gonna be enough food to last 30-50 years traveling through space, another problem that we have is fuel it would take millions if not 100's of millions of gallons of fuel, that is not cheap nor is it easy to store on a rocket. If the expedition fails and and rocket explodes we could be looking at global catastrophe the explosion that much fuel would produce would be enough to cause another big bang and then if it does succeed that would cost billions, maybe even trillions if it turns out that the planet isn't habitable then that would have wasted so much money and resources and also whoever is on the rocket would probably die. So in my opinion with the technology we have right now it would be virtually impossible to make it to k2-18b alive so we should maybe wait a couple hundred maybe even couple thousand years before we even attempt to make that trip across the galaxy.
