You are the ONLY teacher who show us how to solve the problem right away.

Thank you so very much! None of my teachers ever explained this to me. I honestly have thought for years that there was something wrong with me. No one ever said to practice placement before playing or to be more supple with my bow hold. This video is really going to help me. ❤

AMAZING how your violin playing during the intro music sounds so much like a guitar!!! ;-)

Thanks for this video! The times I have had a problem is during a performance. This is because of tension. I am tense because I am nervous. If I encounter the bouncing bow this makes me even more nervous! It is best to be totally comfortable and relaxed when performing. Know the material you are playing! The better I know the music the more confident and relaxed I will be!

Thanks. I went thru a phase when almost any downbow would bounce. I still get it occasionally but not so much once I started putting a tiny bit of pressure from the index finger (mostly) on the bow instead of depending solely on gravity and the weight of the bow for all contact. I look forward to your videos.

Great to see your latest video, Liz! As a non-violinist, I find it really interesting when you explain the finer points of violin technique.
Here, for your amusement, is my "WRONG ANSWERS ONLY!" edition of your "How do you solve a bouncy bow?" tutorial:
    1. Perch a large parrot or several small canaries on the tip of the bow to add extra weight. Train the birds to fly over to your music stand when they hear passages requiring freedom of movement... or you need a page turn!
    2. Tie a bungee cord to the tip of the bow and wrap the other end around your foot to absorb unwanted vibrations. Decrease the tension as needed by lifting your foot to the desired height. Playing on one foot will be fun!
    3. Line the bow with magnets and install magnets of the opposite polarity on the violin to create an attracting force. If some repertoire requires a bouncy bow, just replace the permanent magnets on the violin with electromagnets and use a foot switch to turn them on or off. Click click!
There you go! Now anyone can learn to control a bouncy bow, and they don't even have to "practice" or "work hard" to master the technique. 😁
Wishing a very healthy and happy new year to you and yours, Liz! 💞

I just bought a violin. Newbie 😊 what are some basic steps to learning how to play, read music, ECT. I only know the names of the 4 strings

  • @TheChickwithguns

I have found that being shy about drawing the bow across the strings…the fear of bad sounds or wrong notes…caused a lot of bow bounce when I started. Also crooked bowing and super cheap bows…😬😬🤪

THAT is correct - Speaking from an adult POV - We are so concious of the correct arm movements (upper arm then open elbow - elbow comes forward - wrist chages etc) that we forget to just let it go
Children play from the shoulder and bow goers crooked - but that playing from the shoulder NEEDS to be done up to the balance point, then the hand and arm straighten the bow, in fact it never really goes crooked - What helps me when I get shaky downbow at heel is to think to pull away from the shoulder - FIXED FIXED FIXED !!! :)
