You should record a bass cam of one of your upcoming shows! It doesn’t have to be great sound quality or anything would just love to see how hard you play up close!
Thank you Matt for going in such detail! I was standing front row at your show in Wiesbaden, Germany and you guys killed it! Thank you for taking the time to do the Bass Bunker and all the behind the scenes! I wish you all the best!
Yeah. These videos would have been incredible 25 years ago. They're incredible now, but teenage me would have obsessed over this shit, like I did with the Hellcat Records site back in the day.
Thank you Matt! This is awesome. You inspired me to pick up the bass, at 50 years old! One of the best things I've discovered about bass is how unpretentious it is, like you.
Can'twait to see the show in Hershey with my daughter. Her favorite band (Green Day) and my favorite band (Rancid). Would love to see some videos from the tour!! 😅
Thanks so much for taking the time to do these videos, Matt. I don't know if you work on your own basses, but I'd be interested in seeing a video on how to adjust the intonation of a bass. It's something I'm too wigged out to try.
It's a very easy adjustment to make mate, don't let it wig you out. There's a lot of videos around, just grab a half decent tuner and a screwdriver and do it. You'll be fine, trust me.
It's so awesome that you make videos like this Matt, we would have killed to have known some of this stuff when we were kids! I hope you know how appreciative we all are!
Mr Freeman thank you again for your effort making this video. I wish you and your bandmates and the other bands on tour much success. I guess that rehearsal space now beats the setup you gentleman had in the “Salvation” video all those many years ago. Continued success sir.
Man this channel is awesome. I'm loving all of these videos. Maybe some behind the scenes footage from the stadium tour would be incredible to see. Or even just what its like on tour.
Thank you for the wonderful introductory video, master Matt ! Very nice Fender amp. And some very complicated looking equipment🎶 I love your playing and your sound🎸✨
Great Video Matt! I love how the Pbass needs almost nothing to sound incredible. Anything you want to show us about the upcoming tour would be fantastic. I'm sure touring has changed for you over the years, hopefully for the positive. You could show any tour routines you have. Interesting places you get to see, interesting places you don't get to see..... I've always gotten questions about what I do when touring from friends and family. They seem to think its a big vacation. Lov ya Matt, best bass player in the fuckin world
Great show at the Boston House Of Blues sept 2023. I brought a friend and it was his first concert ever. Same thing in 2006, brought my daughter to see guys behind Fenway. The Avalon? I think. Anyway thanks for the music youve put out over the years, it was one of the few things I could depend on, Rancid being nothing but Rancid, but always fresh. And thanks for the vid, Ive always wondered about your pre amp and effects.
Thanks Matt really interesting to see how you get your live sound been lucky enough to see you a few times in London would love to see you go through Cocktails, Who Would've Thought , Leicester Square Fall Back Down Cheers
I love these videos. I love seeing what gear he uses. I already have my own personal preference for strings but am curious as to what he uses. Or perhaps there's already a video on that? Anyways, thanks again for these videos!
Matt, thanks for sharing this look at your live rig. I notice that you are running into an Avalon U5 DI. Mark Hoppus has used the same setup live in the past. Both of you guys broke into success with albums that were produced by Jerry Finn. Is this related to the bass signal chain that you were using on that record? It would be really cool to hear about your experience working with Finn on and out come the wolves. Not even the tech stuff really, more-so the larger creative and conceptual approaches involved with him in the producer’s chair. Sadly, there are not many interviews giving access or insight into his process, especially as related to the bass. Thanks!
Thanks again Matt for giving us the inside scoop, I remember seeing bands play live and then on the record covers playing their gear and always thinking that's all they played and recorded with, until I started seeing interviews where members mentioned what they recorded with 😳. I felt like I was living in an alternate universe and nothing was real 🤣🤣, as I started diving into the gear world and hearing about studios I understood things more. I think you may have mentioned what you recorded with on the original Rancid album in your early videos so I won't ask again but rather just say thank you for genuinely thinking about us gear guy's 👍.
Hell yeah Mr. Freeman! Was hoping you would take us with you on tour. Thanks to your tech too. Can't wait to see you guys again. Maybe you can get a few lessons from Mr. Dirnt and teach us how to play Longview? Haha sorry. Had to. Thanks again
Well Matt, that is some awesome sound I could only wish for. I joined a band once, a ska-punk ensemble and the first thing I said to them: I'm not Matt Freeman so don't make me play any of that OPIVY or Rancid shit as I used to play bass in punk and hardcore bands only. Sure enough they made me play Time Bomb. Of course. And I loved playing it! It made me realise there's whole other levels to bass playing. You, sir, are a true inspiration, thank you for all that joy throughout the years.
Thanks for doing a video on your amps/cabinets and showing the dials and settings Matt! What made you switch away from tubes, was it just transporting them/ broken tubes, needing replacements on the fly but not always being available on tour? Or was there a sound related difference that you liked these better?
...the best part about these videos, is seeing just how down to earth Matt Freeman really is
He really is such a humble guy, and with the chops the guy has he is still so warm and kind
Black shirt, slicked hair, trimmed goatee and that stack! Yeah! The boy’s a legend bomb!
That's ALL of Rancid!
Timmy is the same!
Matt Freeman and Mike Dirnt. What a combination.
I think Mike is using the Bassman 800 as well!
I know, right! They’re almost exactly the same bass player lol
They are my two top punk bassist. So glad i can see them both at a show. What a hell of a gig.
Matt Mike Punk Road !
These videos are the best. Not only is it just awesome to see everything, but they answer so many questions. Have a great tour!
Let's do a real/full Rig Rundown in Nashville!
I’d love to see a Rig Rundown on Rancid, that would be absolutely awesome
One of the best bassists ever!!! I play guitar but Matt has been my bass hero since 95. Thank you Matt!!
You should record a bass cam of one of your upcoming shows! It doesn’t have to be great sound quality or anything would just love to see how hard you play up close!
I think seeing warren lee soldering in the background while you were ripping on bass was a nice touch, somehow more punk rock🤘
Wow how awesome to see a professional musician in an epic band take the time to share this with everyone. Really cool! Thank you!
This channel is so frickin sweet.
Thank you Matt for going in such detail! I was standing front row at your show in Wiesbaden, Germany and you guys killed it! Thank you for taking the time to do the Bass Bunker and all the behind the scenes! I wish you all the best!
41yr old me is wishing 16yr old me could watch these videos.
same... im 41 as well. if only we could check all this kind of shit out when they were huge in the 90s.
Yeah. These videos would have been incredible 25 years ago. They're incredible now, but teenage me would have obsessed over this shit, like I did with the Hellcat Records site back in the day.
So true
We thought we needed magical stuff but all we needed was better speakers and amps.
I don't remember writing this comment, 41 years old here 😂.
Thank you Matt! This is awesome. You inspired me to pick up the bass, at 50 years old! One of the best things I've discovered about bass is how unpretentious it is, like you.
What a privilege to see! That pork loin adds the meat. Man, that little sound demo! Matt has gotten so fast! I bet that left hand could crush walnuts!
I appreciate the candid view of the musical profession at this level, especially from the perspective a bass player.
Love that you make these. Would love to get some behind the scenes from the Rancid shows too.
Good luck on tour, have fun and all the best! Thank you for your videos and your inspiring work! ❤ Cheers!
Warren is a legend 🔥
Great insight!! All Fender is the way to go 💥
Can'twait to see the show in Hershey with my daughter. Her favorite band (Green Day) and my favorite band (Rancid). Would love to see some videos from the tour!! 😅
Was so looking forward to this, sounds killer. Hoping to score some tickets to hear it in person! Good luck on tour Mr.Freeman!
Love to see your back stage rehearsal before a show 🤙🏽
Sick videos , watching from Australia

A master and his tools! Brilliant!!!!
I sometimes get the feeling that Matt is a guitarist that plays bass. Amazing sound and amazing talent.
It's so awesome that you make videos like this Matt, we would have killed to have known some of this stuff when we were kids! I hope you know how appreciative we all are!

Play the bassline for "The Bottle" 🍻
Edit: Have an awesome tour. I'm hoping to catch it in SD.

Thanks man, this was wicked!
Interesting. Thx!
Great video Matt! Please do a bass-cover of a Green Day song, that would be very cool! Thanks for making these!
Most excellent rig !

The GOAT
u are the light
Thanks youuu!!! Thanks for sharing this vid!!!
Solid rig, love that you can get some bite on the tone the harder you play.
I love this stuff. I hope you guys come to Winnipeg sometime soon.
Wow. I never realized how dirty of a bass sound is used when just listening to the albums.
Love that tone!!!
It’s amazing to grow up and realize your punk rock heroes are more rad than you could have ever imagined. 🤜🤛🤘🫶
Shout out Warren Lee!!! NYHC family!!!
Love this, can you ask the guys to show their rigs too
Your awesome. Thanks for sharing
Nice to have fender endorsement, the amps look killer. The regular Joe can easily nail that tone with a sansamp and thensome.

Been waiting for this one! Do you run the pork loin always on?
Dang, shout out to Warren Lee for knowing what's going on under the hood! That all went over my head but it sounds fucking great haha

Waiting for the next album studio session. 🙂
