That stretch in Danang is perfect for the road bikes! At first I thought you'd head all the way up the mountain to Lady Buddha. Hope you guys post the ride down to Hoi An soon!!
Finally a country where the direction of travel is to the right, rather than to the left as in Japan and Thailand. Best wishes for your new adventure !!!
Ahhh...Da Nang! Hoi Anh is stunning and lots of great riding on smaller roads there. When it all gets too hot take a bus up to Dalat: temps are much cooler and the architecture is French/Swiss mountain chalet style...it's a very European feel. And you will really get your hills in! Vietnam was such a great choice...you will never want to leave!
Immediately upon opening the video, I could see the clean air, clear horizon, and big sky. That's a great feeling. I was so sick of that haze in Thailand. Really makes me reconsider vacationing there. I might have to just go to Vietnam instead.
We moved here hoping the air quality would be pretty decent. It's been hazy the last few days (I guess because of forest fires in Laos nearby), but hopefully it improves.

Wow, having just moved to Saigon to be with my wife, I wish there were such safe, beautiful stretches of beach-front road like in Da Nang. As it is, I was able to get an indoor trainer setup to alleviate the cycling blues. Still don’t know when I’ll gather the courage to venture onto the streets. I’ve been to the beach towns of Da Nang and Nha Trang, and know that the slower traffic with fewer cars makes those destinations a lot safer than here in the big city. Anyway, congratulations on your move and good luck! I think you picked the right location to accommodate your love of cycling.
Glad to see the two of you made it safely and was able to go along on your first ride. Looking forward to see your future rides and perhaps seeing Thoung's home town.

I was in Danang 10 years ago. Took a bus from Bangkok to Laos border, changed bus and drove on to VN border. There were 60 of us cyclists on Central VN bike tour. We biked from Lao border to the coastal city of Danang, Hoi An and biked back. Visiting tunnels, emperor tombs. We also biked up Banana Hill and stayed at the hotel up there. No aircon as it was quite high and cool year round. Traffic on country roads are not heavy but Danang was similar to Bangkok but a little less congested. Hardly there was any traffic lights, but cyclists, motorcyclists and cars seemed to know to avoid each other quite well. We could not do that well and needed to follow the guide Van around Danang whenever we left the hotel. There were many empty buildings in Danang. The guide said real estate was overdeveloped and could not sell. We spent in Central VN for 8 days altogether.

Nice being able to read your cycling computer screen when you ride. Difficult to see which metrics you are displaying though 😃. I’m surprised that you don’t have some sort of mirror to more easily see what’s coming up from behind 🤔
Let's pick up the pace and find a fishing spot, Thuong-san! Asia could really use electric motorbikes and scooters. They are ubiquitous, but 2 stroke engines are noisy and pollute quite a bit.
Glad to see you guys are safe and doing well! Hope the food there suits you! South East Asian food might take a little getting used to for the long term!
You could try some nail polish for the touch-up job on Thuong's bike. Your new home area looks pretty nice. Is Thuong's home town within easy reach of Da Nang?
hey! Welcome to Da Nang Im from Da Nang and I have watched multiple videos of yours. Lets catch up sometime. I paraglide on Son Tra mountain at the weekends
Feels weird the both of you riding on the right side of the road, since I've watched many of your videos riding on the left side in Japan and Thailand 😅
Looking good and will be even better when the suns out,i would be interested in knowing how you find Vietnam compared to Thailand value for money wise.
The horns are much more intense in HCMC and Hanoi. It's a wave of sound that starts from early in the morning until late in the evening. It's an unhealthy amount of noise pollution.
Right now, there is not much motor scooters on the roads during the lock down. So bicycling is safe. But I’m curious once they open up and more scooters are on the roads…are you guys still going to bike around the city or go toward the country side where there is less traffic?
RC- Right in Danang you won’t find many gravel roads. But Hoi An is not far at all, and you can find gravel roads down there. By careful of the heat. In Danang and Hoi An , it was very very hot by mid morning. I was there in June. Pretty sure is cools down a bit in December January. I recommend Dalat . Dirt roads just outside of the city center. With big elevation gains / loss. Not hot at all.
Beautiful ride! Love the gorgeous views! You can enjoy some fantastic seafood in Vietnam and of course the pho! Stay away from fermented and pickled foods though (except fish sauce)! From my experience this messes my American stomach up every time!🤮
Where is your Trimm One? I need a new bike computer and considering one. I live in Tokyo and wondering about the maps. Does it have a Viet Nam map? I've been to Hoi An and loved it. Wish i had my bike to ride there.
Thuong is still using the Trimm One, I usually use my Bolt since I like the Strava live segments there better. The maps are connected from your phone, so it works fine here.
The highway along the beach is well designed and maintained, only if the people driving were little more sensible with the traffic laws then cycling on the highway seems fun.
Is it safe-----it would be a lot safer if you had mirrors on your bike. I've been riding for 70 years and after I was hit by an 18-wheeler many years ago, I would never ride after that without a mirror. It's saved me from being hit a number of times over the years. I would like to see both of you safely cycling many years into the future.
Welcome back!
Thanks man! We finally made it here. Gotta go for a bike ride sometime when we're in the same area ;)

Nice being able to read your cycling computer screen when you ride. Difficult to see which metrics you are displaying though 😃. I’m surprised that you don’t have some sort of mirror to more easily see what’s coming up from behind 🤔
Thanks! We've never cycled with mirrors, but we can hear most vehicles coming from behind us.
Let's pick up the pace and find a fishing spot, Thuong-san!
Asia could really use electric motorbikes and scooters. They are ubiquitous, but 2 stroke engines are noisy and pollute quite a bit.
Agreed, hopefully they push for more electric motorbikes, some of the gas ones here are nasty.
Glad to see you guys are safe and doing well! Hope the food there suits you! South East Asian food might take a little getting used to for the long term!
Thanks! Thuong's been cooking Vietnamese food for a while, so we're pretty used to it now.
You could try some nail polish for the touch-up job on Thuong's bike. Your new home area looks pretty nice. Is Thuong's home town within easy reach of Da Nang?
Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately, it's a 12+ hour "journey" to get to her hometown
Lovely beautiful ride
Very good to see that you guys made it to Vietnam
Thanks!
I look to visit Vietnam 🇻🇳 again & get into the bike culture.
hey! Welcome to Da Nang
Im from Da Nang and I have watched multiple videos of yours.
Lets catch up sometime.
I paraglide on Son Tra mountain at the weekends
You should be able to fly drones out there. Must be cool to put a background music on that drone video.
We’ve seen a few, but we don’t have one now
The costal Road look pretty safe compared to what we have here in penang. Here is just 2 lanes without any walk ways.
Yeah, it's pretty nice for a long way.
its a good video and I hope you get settled in soon
Thanks! 😃
man... you should try sunrise ride to son tra mountain, my personal favourite part of the town
We've done some sunset rides there, very nice area.
🌴🌴🌴🌴🌊🌊🌊 how's the infrastructure there The coast looks quite beautiful
refreshing view..definitely prefer this over chiang mai..Ride safe ~!
The ocean views are a nice change.
Keep safe guys your
Wow nice bikes♥️♥️♥️
I'm guessing that Thuong is happy to be back "home", no doubt.
She sure is!
Feels weird the both of you riding on the right side of the road, since I've watched many of your videos riding on the left side in Japan and Thailand 😅
It feels so strange to be back on the right side after 7 years haha
Looking good and will be even better when the suns out,i would be interested in knowing how you find Vietnam compared to Thailand value for money wise.
Yes, I'll be talking about those topics in future videos.
@@TwoWheelCruise Thats great thank you and have a great time in Vietnam
Was there in June 2018 and it was very hot. maybe lesser traffic now because of covid.
Beach looks nice. What is the name of that city, again?
Da Nang
Good to see many trees in the city. It will help regulating the heat.
YES, lots of trees in Vietnamese cities :)
The horns are much more intense in HCMC and Hanoi. It's a wave of sound that starts from early in the morning until late in the evening. It's an unhealthy amount of noise pollution.
Yep, that's why we're not living there
Right now, there is not much motor scooters on the roads during the lock down. So bicycling is safe. But I’m curious once they open up and more scooters are on the roads…are you guys still going to bike around the city or go toward the country side where there is less traffic?
There is no lock down now, but maybe there is less traffic from less tourism. We're going to look for the safer roads for riding.
Thoung looks so happy 😀 cool helmets I want one!!!
Thanks! 😃 These helmets are very safe and cheap. Great value.
Da Nang is a nice place to bike especially the hiway going to Hoi An
Yes, it's been great!
Nice long flat, hope can do a ride there in the near future. Do you have video where you guys unpack and build the bike?
Not this time unfortunately.
I am glad all is going well.
Looks like it safer to cycle in Vietnam than in Thailand for the lower volume of traffic. 👍🏻
Safer in some regards, yes
cool that you can ride to Hoi An. Is there gravel road riding in the area?
I think there's a decent amount, but there is definitely some very rough concrete riding in some areas.
@@DaveEPie awesome. thanks!
Beautiful ride! Love the gorgeous views! You can enjoy some fantastic seafood in Vietnam and of course the pho! Stay away from fermented and pickled foods though (except fish sauce)! From my experience this messes my American stomach up every time!🤮
Thanks! 😃 Thuong is very excited for the seafood!
When you mention vietnam, I remembered the movie "Forrest gump", when he talked about the rain that last 4 month LOL if that's true, prepare for rain.
Yeah, not looking forward to that season. We may go North then to escape.
Hi may I ask, what spec you use to film this? 4K 25frame? Cause I wonder how long can your GoPro battery last!
4k 60fps. Usually overheats before the battery goes, so we rotate batteries.
The highway along the beach is well designed and maintained, only if the people driving were little more sensible with the traffic laws then cycling on the highway seems fun.
Thanks! 😃 Yeah, lots of bad drivers unfortunately so gotta stay on guard.
Hi, I have a question is Thuong Also using the same wahoo element bolt as you?
No, she's using a different computer. We just made a video about it.
Awesome ride! 🚴🏽 great to get back in the saddle and nice beach view there 👍🏽
Btw group rides and fishing sound like a lot of fun!
Thanks!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 looks like a great place to ride!
Thanks from Vietnam
Wow. I thought there is some crack in the road in Vietnam but... Road looks quite clean.
Mostly good on the main roads, but there are rough roads too.
