Venisuella invited western oil companies first to help them establish oil production infrastructure and then in 1976 declared everything nationalized.
Today they can't even produce enough to supply themselves.

I'm from Venezuela, and i do wonder how did you come up with that conclusion, by Venezuela do you mean the people, or the Narcostate that we have for government?, i recommend to read a little bit about our history, you will learn that our government is only doing the best for the narcotraffic and it doesn't care how many innocent people it has to kill in order to stay in power..... if you haven't lived here, i know it will be easy to make quick assumptions... but ask yourself this... How come that a political party has been in power for 25 years... in spite of the collapse cause by hugo chavez policies...

@@FreeBird141 hi FreeBird, I meant the people not any particular political party or Government. I am from Singapore and am not very familiar with the Venezuelan Narcostate (presumably similar to Columbia, Mexico or the Golden Triangle?). The original drug cartel was the British East India Company (re Opium Wars in China) and a lot of that opium flowed from South Asia through Singapore to Hong Kong and China. We have very strict and harsh drug laws in Singapore (hanging) and little narcotic problems as a result. I might not recommend our solution for Venezuela as it might be too draconian. My original comment above was about economic development and getting around any economic sanctions the Americans are imposing on Venezuela. Developing industry and providing jobs will help provide alternative less violent/ dangerous means of making a living.

@@willceurvels first of all, when I spoke about abortion; I was referencing Venezuela in particular. China and Soviets had a viewpoint on abortion that varies depending on the need of population. So it will be allowed or restricted based on that matrix. Homosexuality (same sex marriage) is NOT legal in any of the countries mentioned and there are NO protections other than being ignored in private. Any dissemination of that “lifestyle” is not permitted in ANY of the countries mentioned either. Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Sung all saw LGBT as counter revolutionary and symbolic of a decadent capitalist individualistic culture and in most it was punished by labor camps or executions (read your history). They were correct in the assessment that US imperialists spread their influence through hedonism and the hatred of actual working class family values, thus the attitude in most of these countries to this day. American “leftists” are not “communists” they are decadent left capitalist whose cultural imperialism can be seen by the mega corporations that promote all of this “cultural” agenda.

I attribute this persistence not just to the courage of Venezuela's leaders but also, primarily, to the "true grit" of the ordinary people of Venezuela. They inspire me. What’s becoming so obvious to people now is that colonialism has never ended just rebranded with different terms. From Natives indigenous people being called “savages” in the old days to now being called “terrorist” by neocolonialists who are neoliberals, neoconservatives, and zionist.
    1) Savages is now “terrorist”
    2) Civilizing them is now “bringing them democracy”
We can all see Israel is a colonial project being supported by former and current colonials such as U.S, UK, and others who also control territories of indigenous natives in Caribbean Islands, Pacific Islands, Hawaii, and many more.
The liberation of Palestine will definitely give RISE to many indigenous natives around the world to free themselves from western domination. This is the underlying ripple effect that the U.S government and its puppet allies don’t want to happen.

It all has to do with the U.S. "Monroe Doctrine" and the U.S. attitude that ALL of the Americas - North and South American continent - belongs to the U.S.A. It is a form of colonialism without calling it colonialism and has been around for over 250 years.
The big U.S. companies all believe in entering and dominating the countries in South America and if any of them resist by nationalising its resources, the U.S. Government will have a say in what happens to that country's government and its people next. In a way, the U.S. is an extension of the way in which British former East India Company used to control their own government to foster their overseas domination of countries ie Imperial colonialism to "protect their foreign assets" - or in other words, government by an oligarch of private businesses.

No one is obsessed with taking over in Venezuela. Democracy is democracy not autocracy. Transparent and accountable elections, once voting is over don't withhold results, display it for everyone to see. Hugo Chavez is only one citizen, others have the right to rule.
