    Your videos are so clear and informative! I spent days trying to figure out why Shift U drum cues were not showing up. By default they only show up in part layout, not in the score. Thanks for pointing that out. This is so much easier than Finale which takes at least 5 seperate steps to do rhythmic cues w/ slashes!

    • @cjrhenmusic
      @cjrhenmusic  2 месяца назад

      I swear cues in Dorico are just so cool. They are the feature that puts new users in the Dorico mindset. Once you understand cues everything else about the software and how it does things differently starts to make sense. Thank you for watching!

    Excellent video! How about inserting notation for drum grooves from Groove Agent? I'm having trouble with that.

    • @cjrhenmusic
      @cjrhenmusic  Месяц назад

      You mean adding a groove agent drum kit? And then making the sounds match up? That will all be about what ever percussion map you assign and they generally use the general midi one but sometimes need tweaks. Look into Dorico percussion maps and I am planning on covering expression maps and percussion maps for play can in a future video. BTW, the on-screen keyboard looks cool and very helpful for toturial. May I know what application it is?

    • @cjrhenmusic
      @cjrhenmusic  2 месяца назад

      Hey so the midi keyboard is called vmpk.sourceforge.io, if you are on Windows you also need loopback midi www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html, you select your midi keyboard as the input for vpmk and the output as your virtual midi cable and that virtual device can connect to your daw and Dorico. I use OBS window capture to capture vpmk and you have to crop it and setup the keyboard so it looks good. For the typing keyboard it's an obs plugin and I designed some of the keys myself. obsproject.com/forum/resources/input-overlay.552/ Thank you for watching!

    Hello, how did you get the one measure spread across the entire page? With Finale, it was easy to search the web and find answers. This software doesn't have a lot of answers to searches online. Love your tutorials. Thank you for this!

      Hey as more questions get asked more and more answers will show up, simply the symptom of a newish (compared to finale) and growing software. I believe you are talking about gallery view. Could you do a video showing how to set up and use a midi keyboard for entering percussion? I must be doing something wrong because I can enter notes but when I try to enter rhythms that are different in the voices it alerts my original rhythm. For instance, I put 2 eighth notes in snare and then enter a quarter note for the kick below it but the quarter note shows up as 2 eighths tied together.

    • @cjrhenmusic
      @cjrhenmusic  Месяц назад +1

      Hey, I am planning a big band score walk through for a portion of one of my charts and will definitely cover some drum grooves and how I like to write them with those sorts of specifics. Now, I know what's happening to your drum parts, snare and kick are in the same voice so if you want them to be independent of each other meaning not on the same stem and voice, right click the kick drum note, go to the percussion sub menu and change it to a different down stem voice. I hope that helps you out and keep an eye out for some more videos on Dorico and composition!

    I'll preface this by saying that I have Dorico elements 5: shitf+u doesn't bring up a cue input mode at all on the drum staff. Is there a setting that I need to engage or is that function just not available in elements? Thanks so much!

    • @cjrhenmusic
      @cjrhenmusic  2 месяца назад +1

      It appears you cannot use cues in Dorico elements. If you do a lot of drum notation I highly recommend pro, usually there are affordable upgrade licenses so you only pay the difference between elements and pro!

      @@cjrhenmusic Sure, it might be lagging in an advanced features sense, but it sure is the most popular and leading in the sense of cleaning up notation and software.
