- It's time for the start of some much asked for toy repair videos. Kenners Real Ghostbusters. First up and top of the list for collectors was restoring and repairing a vintage Fright Features Egon Spengler as it's pretty much impossible to find one without his tie snapped off. So that's what is covered in this video, making a new tie and fixing the scratched paint.

That tie destroyed my childhood ;)
I would like to thank you for your videos with out them my vintage toy would still be broken but now I have toys worthy of display once again thank you
Thanks 👍
Great Restore
My FF Egon still has his tie because I was so worried I packed him in plastic wrap as a kid for storage. I was so terrified of it getting broken.
Awesome 🙏👏👏👏
Nice job.
Oh man that Looks sooooo much better 🤩
These Fright Features GB toys were brilliant. Great gimmick and I particularly love the colour scheme of Egon
You always amaze. Thanks for the video!
Very hard to find without the tie broken so this is a much needed fix and that color for his tie and gloves was hard to find so I'm glad I got to see what colors you used
Awesome Ghostbuster toy
Nice job. I still have mine from my childhood. Still have the tie:) I actually bought mine on vacation to Newcastle back in the day.
Your restoration work on this figure was extraordinary!!!!! I love watching your videos!!!!!
Thank you so much 😀
"No legos where hurt during the making of this video" lol. Yeah i have that figure exactly like that!!!!!!! And im in Canada!!!!
Another excellent restoration Dave.
great ff egon restoration fantastic.
Amazing job Dave! Looks great!😁👍
Crackerjack job, as always, Dave! I love these figures. They're so wacky in the most fun possible way. Real Ghostbusters is a great series to collect and fix 😉
Cheers!
Your Egon looks fantastic now! I'm glad you made a video showing some repainting because painting is a big part of toy restoration--especially where action figures are concerned--so it's nice to see you going through the process. That way we can actually see what a huge difference that it makes in the end. Thanks for another awesome video!
Thank you very much!
I'd love to see you restore more Kenner ghostbusters figures.
Four more videos already filmed!
I love how you are able to make something that was "just have to live with it that way" and change it to...."that looks great!!!" Another top notch video good sir!!😃
Nice. I actually just pulled this out of a toy box that I had in storage about a week ago. Broken tie is a pain. Thanks for a way to fix this.
Thank you sir! 🙏🏼
Awesome ! I 've many of them, all almost all of them have the missing tie ... thanks :)
This is a toyline we know very well, since it's the one we loved the most in our childhood. And just like you've said, the tie on this version of Egon and the proton packs are always said to be extremely flimsy. Actually the grip on the proton guns breaks easily, but without losing functionality, but the proton streams were very flexible and would bend but not break. I'm sure that the reason why they are always missing on lose figures, is that kids used to snap them off on purpose. Very nice video as always!
I think you are right with the proton beams. So I'm making replacements that toy can remove as you like, but will also still work. Many more videos to come on this line over the next few months. Cheers
Considering the lack of reference, the tie repair came out pretty good! The tie on the figure when unbroken is just a little bit longer and was warped in a few spots to make it look like it was waving as it flips up. Keep up the great work though, love the videos!
Yeah, I prefer to work with an original so I can see how it should be. But even with guessing you can still make something that looks the part. Cheers
Thanks Dave, fantastic job, looks great.
Not perfect, but it does the job.
Holy cow, im going tondo this with my egon, thank you sir, you bring us happines with your restorations. Love from mexico
Thank you! Your videos just make me so happy 😊 From the way they are edited to the topic and the awesome results of your repairs 👍🏻 The nostalgia is great🤩
Wow, thank you!
I’m an action man fan but still love all your other videos
Great Video Dave. This was one of the figures I had as a kid and his tie broke about 2 hours after opening it on xmas morning.
Thanks. It really is a weak point on the figure. Every one I see is broken.
I have one of these and yes broken tie, I almost for a brief time thought the tie just came that way
"Quiff." To American ears, that sounds vaguely naughty. 😂
I just got this Egon today.
Yes, with a broken tie !!
Great how to video as usual
I remember these, I never had any as I was a little older when they came out but I always thought they were pretty cool.
That's an amazing work! Mine lost his right arm! It has the articulation backwards of what normally that use to be. That happened trying to turn it white again. :(
ive got my one of these in the loft, tie is fine. didnt really get the other figures as kid, just egon for some reason
I have a Egon with his tie intact but I fear it is only a matter of time before it dose snap I also have one that is snaped so maybe I'll try this thanks friend🖖
The problem you had nailing the color of the gloves is due to Vallejo itself. I use their line a lot for model building and I’ve found that some of their colors are a bit muted, no matter how you mix them. This is because they focus a lot of their shades for military models and realistic scale. You’ll find this especially with their blue and green tones - they’re just not bright enough. I have better luck getting the brighter/hotter shades mixing with craft acrylics. Hope this helps!
Spent ages looking for my FF Egon that had an intact tie, got lucky at NEC toyfair last year.
Well done 😲 now if you can give me an idea how to build Egon’s helmet?
I found my damaged Egon. Managed to restore it. It's in my shorts videos. *lol*
Nice work!
Maybe phthalo turquoise mixed with white and a tab of black maybe yellow orchre (to match that aged look) for the paint on gloves.
And yeah I’ll agree the green on the gloves could be a it better. Ended up coming out a bit dark. Probably could have done with a dash of white and maybe yellow.
Awesome video, my friend! Would you happen to know how to de-yellow a Kenner Stay Puff Marshmallow Man without damaging the paint or figure?
You are in luck. Patreons are watching a video about that at the moment. Everyone else will get to see it later this week. Cheers
@@toypolloi I'll be sure to check it out! Thank you for all you do to help restore our childhood memories! God Bless ya, my friend!
I've been fixing up one of my action figures (he came with two left arms, though thankfully a right and left hand, and I've been modifying the scond left arm to make it more or less a proper right arm). I'm coming into the stage where I need to repaint what I've filed down, and any pre-existing damage besides. Anyway. I'm finding that I'm a bit wary of all the paint choices. Would any old acrylic be okay? Should I invest in some new paint? Is the Humbrol top coat your preferrd method of sealing and/or have you sealed with other methods?
Sorry, there's quite a few questions here! While this particular figure is my "practice figure" to ease into fixing my figures (I have two of him), and while he's not vintage (he's actually a New 52 Nightwing - I'm going to repaint him classic colours though, since I'm already going to need to paint some semi significant portions of him), I figure asking questions and seeking advice never hurts!
I love all your restoration videos, they always get my cogs turning and make me feel more enthusiastic about fixing up my own figures. Thanks for the inspiration!
Super rambly, sorry about that!
I use Humbrol or Valejo paints for my fixes. There are many ways to add a top coat. But I like the Humbrol one. Spray can versions are good as well. Cheers

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and reply to my comment! I greatly appreciate it.
What is the topcoat you used? I can't seem to find one online (I think I may just be searching the wrong thing up). I have normal Humbrol Gloss Varnish but it is not the same, what you have is more like a polyurethane-ish topcoat, my paints are easily scraping off after two days of drying.
Number 135
How did you get my Egon figure? 😂
I have that toy once
Dave 👍🍻😁
I've touched-up figures with acrylic paint before and it seems to leave a sticky feel to any area thats been painted. Does using a top coat get rid of that, or is that just to add a gloss effect?
It does. but you also need to let it dry fully. If it still feels a bit tacky, a light dusting of talcum powder may help. I plan to do a video on that one day.
If u know how, pls tell me how do u fix his arm that activates his head?
Check out my video on fright features Winston. It might give you some pointers.
Some official toy polloi paint mixes might be good - He-Man Hair Yellow, Fett Green, Egon Red etc
Ha ha. As I say in most of my videos there is never an exact match. Always needs mixing. I've covered Boba Fett paint before, and He-Man will be along in a few weeks!
@@toypolloi I know I watch them all, I've got a few of my Original TMNT figures that I need to get around touching up the paint on, fixing wrists and making new belts, capes and kimonos for.
My FF Egon Completely lose his Tie...can that be fix?...
I blame the refusal to use any metal after a point in toy manufacturing, imagine a cheap metal tie backing would have made that mech sound for years. It's pretty simple, plastic that thin will break period, same with the proton stream. :\ Regardless, nice repair you did there. :)
I saw no Plastic Weld. What have you done with Toy Polloi?!
Wrong type of plastic. It will return in a few weeks. You can count on that.
Egundone?
Oh boy, my first Ghostbusters figure... all gone and destroyed, not by me, but my stupid bro.
It was a cool feature, but out of all four of the Ghostbusters, Egon was probably the least likely to have such a reaction to a ghost. Ray, yes, Egon, no. I never owned any of these, as I was a bit too old when they first came out. I was always tempted, though.
You ended up repainting the entire gloves didn’t you
I did. I actually repainted them again after I did this video with a really close colour match. I wasn't happy with this first go.
@@toypolloi When you were mixing the paint it made me want to do it. Kept thinking “Add more blue! Add more blue!”
Why does fright feature egon have no eyebrows, the original Kenner egon had eyebrows?
I simply don't understand what you did to make the repainted parts match the glossiness of the original paint
It's just a clear top coat. Gives the right finish everytime.
I had one of these as a kid, a girl snapped his arm off and threw it of the school fence :/
Did you marry her? 😉
@@Tim-57 That was literally the only interaction I ever had with her.. just grabbed it out of my hand, snapped the arm off and threw it, handed me back Egon and walked off
What a sad story :(
Did you retrieve the arm?
@@IceWolfLoki Nah, the school janitor even helped look after school.. but could find it.. Kid named Andrew Parker stole my Batman micromachines at the school too
I had one with an intact tie but I sold my FF's to a woman who wanted them for her son...
Ah yes. If you had that figure there's a 99.9% chance the tie was broken.
Why’s his hair blond? Really weird. Is it meant to be like the cartoon? To which I ask why they made his hair blond in the cartoon........
Well yes, the figures are based on the cartoon versions of the characters.
I believe it was done to give the characters a more veried look. In the film they all pretty much have the same colour a bit boring for a childrens cartoon, Ray also got a change of hair colour and they all got overalls unique to each individual.
Anyone here care to help a technologically impaired person who can't figure out how to message this content creator here directly? Lol I'm looking for videos or some guidance on more ghostbusters toys. Particularly, the haunted humans and fright feature series. HELP!! Thanks!
