  • A think tank has warned any future government would have to find £8bn of cuts to fund the government's planned increase in defence spending.
Rishi Sunak announced on Tuesday he was pledging to increase spending by £75bn by 2030 to put Britain on a "war footing" against threats from China and Russia.
However, the Institute for Fiscal Studies warned the pledge would mean cuts to public services while Labour branded it a pre-election "gimmick".

Please. 2.5% of GDP defense spending is not a "war footing" as Rishi proclaims. If the UK were serious, it would follow the Polish example and set out a plan to restore defense spending to Cold War levels i.e. 4% of GDP

UK spending a total of 75Bn on own defense. How is that enough? That is the amount that USA is giving away to Ukraine just to help defend Ukraine in a war. And it is not nearly enough for Ukraine to survive war. If UK wants to be prepared to defend itself in looming war, we better take it serious.
