Spent almost 55 years in the great little town of Lodi California. Full of grape vineyards, winery's, Almonds, cherries and many other crops. It's known as the Zinfandel capital of the world. It's also the home of the first A&W drive in and where A&W Root Beer was created. Lodi was also the home of one of General Mills largest and busiest Distribution plants. Nothing beat being outside on a warm summer night and smelling Cheerios being made. Good memories.
Was born in Lodi and graduated from Lodi high school in 1980. I still have a brother that lives there I moved out when I was 25 to Elk Grove California . Still have high school friends and hang around Lodi quite often it is a great town to grow up in. There was nothing better than the boat races at Lodi lake on the Fourth of July when I was a kid.
In the summer of 1971 I hitchhiked from Everett WA to San Pedro CA to visit my grandparents. You guessed it: along the way I got stuck in Lodi overnight until I caught a ride the following morning. This song kept playing in my head all night long.
What a gem! This song is not known by many unless you are CCR fan. Thank you for reacting to this one. This band absolutely exemplifies the late 1960 early 1970s music milieu.
You may want to check out the Guess Who, a Canadian band. Just like CCR, they were huge in 1969-70. "American Woman," "No Time" (second version) and "Undun" are just some of the group's classics.
@@schrodingersgat4344 I've seen all good people, starship trooper, long distance runaround, owner of a lonely heart, it can happen, yours is no disgrace.
The “Guess Who” were 1 of the best in 60”s & 70’s, for sure! The lead singer is Burton Cummings! He is right up there with the best R & R singers in history! Far as I am concerned John Fogerty & Burton Cummings were the 2, best!
@@MyRoom_is_old Fogarty grew up in California and hung around the central valley of California where Lodi is located. He spent a lot of time up in Angels Camp and in San Andreas. I’ve seen him many times in the 70s. Not sure where you got your information from but it’s about Lodi California.
My company hired John Fogerty to perform at a small private function a few years ago. He sounded great and had his son as part of his band. Once in a lifetime!
Hi Shawn&Mel❤️ i am Swedish guy as was teenage 67 to 74 for me is John Fogerty and CCR American as sing about the beauty in America 🇺🇲❤️ and i hope all Americans are proud of them ❤️🇺🇲🇸🇪 i have never been in the US but i love the US from songs by CCR 🇺🇲👍🏾🇸🇪👍🏻❤️
Congratulations for being the first to react to this great song! John wrote this song after running out of gas in his vehicle there. Maybe you can interview him or whatever he's still performing. Since he's such a nice gent it just may happen.!!
One of my brothers lives up in Modesto, and, as many times as I've gone up to see him, I've never once suggested we drive up to Lodi. Lodi's 40 minutes up from him, with Sacramento just another 20 minutes north. Next time I visit, I'll DEMAND we make that drive! Lol!
My favourite CCR song!!!! another great song, long as you can see the light!!!! John Fogerty and Tom Fogerty are from Berkley California, they were born there.
Nice! "Lodi" has been one of my favorites for decades. I grew up two hours south of Lodi and my father used to drop the line about getting stuck in Lodi all the time back then. CCR takeover is right. You've covered almost all of their major hits from what I could tell checking your videos list. Here are a few classics from them that you haven't yet reacted to: "Who'll Stop The Rain", "Down On The Corner", "Don't Look Now", and "Long As I Can See The Light".
Their music just makes you think you're somewhere else and just roll with it. I used to hear this song back in the day but never knew the name of the song till now. Thank you
yes, lodi is a town in northern california that had an abnormal amount of hippy communes around it in the 70s. it attracted a lot of disaffected youth, in the day.
I grew up in Stockton, CA which was about 15-20 min to Lodi on 8 Mile Road. Yep, you don't want to be stuck in Lodi. BTW I learned how to play the drums by listening to CCR records, when I was about 10.
There's a Lodi in New Jersey, not far from the George Washington Bridge. I grew up about 15 miles away and of course everybody in my school assumed the song was about THAT Lodi. We were all jealous. "How come CCR doesn't do any songs about being stuck in LITTLE FALLS??"
You guys are so freakin cute. It's "Low - Die" That is probably in Cali but there are cities named Lodi in Wisconsin and I am pretty sure out east like NY or NJ. Creedence was such a great new sound in the 60s. They were at the same time as the acid rock of '69. The Love Power Days of my late teens. My Generation was awesome in the day and they are awesome today as well. Just that the youth of today think they know more. And that us older folks don't know much. We probably have seen more than they ever will. lol
So glad you guys found this forgotten classic! It is cool to hear John Fogerty tell the story about how most aspiring musicians actually end up, instead of a fantasy story about the lucky few who beat the odds and become rich and famous.
I never knew this song they were saying Lodi . In California. I knew a couple who lived outside of Sacramento and had a ranch there raising all kinds of animals. They got to being involved with raising and selling pot belly pigs when they are the rage in the 80's and early 90's. They sold them for a bunch of money as pets. One of them they also were selling as a baby after weaning they named Lodi !! a pet pig Lodi
I don't know where they got the picture of that map. It had San Jose next to Stockton and it is just below San Francisco. Stockton is just south of Sacramento off the 5 freeway and Lodi is east of that on Hwy 99.
You guys have done a lot of CCR songs already. Will recommend "Commotion", "Night Time Is The Right Time", "Down On The Corner", "Travelin' Band", "Who'll Stop The Rain", "Long As I Can See the Light", "Sweet Hitch-Hiker" etc.
I don’t think it sucks, I was born in a small Cantral Valley town in 1955, only sidewalks were on both sides of one block long downtown, one traffic signal that was just a 4-way blinking red light at the main intersection, 11 miles of vineyards and orchards between us and Highway 99 Moved to Southern California in 1963 and we came back to visit until around 1973. Went back in 2005 and almost cried, all that farm and ranch land is houses. That is what is meant by “you can’t go home again”, because it is no longer there, I would happily move back if it was.
CCR is my favorite band. Love going on your CCR journey with you. You have to check out "Pagan Baby" "Wrote a Song for Everyone" "Bootleg" "Tombstone Shadow" "Walk on the Water"
Definitely oughta react to "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" & "I Put A Spell On You" by CCR, John Fogerty "Centerfield" & "Old Man Down The Road"!!!!!!!!
I'm a new subscriber and I have been watching your journey with Dolly Parton I think you would both love her song she and Porter Wagner did tigether called (Jeannies afraid of the dark) I would love to see your reaction
Love the range of music you both cover on your channel! Could I recommend that you please check out Peppercorn Tree by Eric Taylor? Highly underrated excellent musician who died a few years back. Got to see him perform live, master storyteller.
I think Lodi is a metaphor for all the small town's you play to get some cash to feed yourself and get to the next Lodi while waiting for your big break. Check out the video's on YT of John Fogerty jamming with his kids in their garage.

I got lost in Lodi one time. It was night and I couldn’t find my way back on the freeway. Thought about this song the whole time ✌️
One time I was waiting for a bus and listening to Waiting for the bus
I remember standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona once and couldn't get the song out of my head for days

been there and done that but not in Lodi

agree
Back when this was written, Lodi was a small, out of the way farming town. South of Sacramento and east of San Francisco.
Not much has changed.
I always thought lodi meant low dive....but then I see there is a Lodi California nearby his hometown San Fran
And there is one in WI, He's singing about Lodi NY.
