This is absolutely magnificent, both Ralph Fiennes and Gerard Butler are brilliant. All the cast is top drawer, in fact, and I think this is the only time I've seen Shakespeare set in modern times and it's worked seamlessly. With other attempts my brain is trying to unscramble classical lines with modern clothes, cars etc and it's rather like stop-start driving, you lose the flow. But this beautifully combines the two, both modern and classic. And the acting, especially of Fiennes and Butler, is superb.
I'm playing Aufidius in the version we're currently doing and my director has cut a lot of the lines to save for time....this is one of them. God damnit.
Magnificent. I have not seen the full movie because I could not get to see this scene but I realize that the acting is sublime. This is like a leonidas modern. At least in this scene. It also reminds me of the ghost or Sam Childers. Of course I have an idea of this story is about and being Shakespeare is very interesting. For a moment I thought they would talk in a very theatrical but I thought it good. Not exaggerated but not loose the performance. Congratulations to Gerry and Ralph!
WOW Gerard Butler should play Shakespearean roles more often!
Look at this man. Hear his fierce words. How can he, or we, be morally superior to our enemy when we have become our enemy?

There is also Romeo+Juliet, which uses Shakespearean language in a mid 90s Miami setting with Mafia families.

+Clom Simpson Uh...tell your director he/she's a dumbass. This dialogue is crucial to understanding the character.
Push Back no shit!! You can't cut line from this!! You just can't!!...
Just say it anyway
5 years ago but still....the director cut those lines not for time but because they were probably the lines you were weakest on.
@@guynoir5968 Way to encourage an actor, fella!
He’s the devil.
