Watching this just now, it hit me that this year, 2024, is now the 40th anniversary of the very first time that I saw this layout in person. Can you imagine the awe to a train loving 10-year-old who had only known the 36-inch diameter circle of his first train set and then the 2-D picture mat of the G.I. Joe train set that I got for Christmas 1983. I had never seen a model train magazine before, so I never even had the concept of anything more than a Styrofoam tunnel with painted snow on top. This layout blew me away then, and still does now.
I use to go here all the time when I lived in santee, san diego, last time I was there was 2017 and they have done so much since then.. love the creek they added.. thank you for sharing.
Excellent video Josh, I've seen this awesome layout on RUclips and in Model Railroader and I love the scenery and how flawless the Trains run but I could imagine the hours the members spend cleaning track to get that operation, Yikes!! 😂😂😂
La Mesa models the Southern Pacific prototype over Tehachapi Pass in the 1950s. They allow off era railroading for some members and guests sometimes. If Josh didn't have a youtube channel, you wouldn't be watching this video.
The sound mixing in these videos to make it as realistic as possible is ALWAYS AMAZING

Hi Josh. Nice video. Thanks for sharing this with us
Have a great day!
With all the rain we had in Tehachapi, the creek is running good. Hope to see ya here sometime. Bob
As a signalist, those signals near the end 3:45 look SPOT ON!
This is very nicely done 👍🏾
Great video as always.
very nice again!
Incredible as ever!
Lived there since 88, let's see how accurate you got it..
Empire of a layout

We only run 1950s four weekends of the year. The rest of the time it is up to the operator what era they want to run. No rules in place day to day.
How'd you get the realistic sounds of The Freightcars Scraping on The Rails??
