These are the star wars geeks, or whatever fandom geeks, etc. Heck, you can even be a sports geek (though if you're a number crunchy statistics kind of fan, it's more of a sports nerd at that point) People get called dorks for being socially awkward. That's an interesting scheme. In my opinion, geeks and nerds are just people who are socially awkward and obsessed with different things. Geeks are obsessed with fictional things or entertainment-based things, and nerds are obsessed with nonfictional things.
As a nerd I had different theory on this similar categories (no stalker great punchline). I had organized it more along the lines of types quadrilaterals. Dorks were socially awkward Geeks were dorks that were obsessed with a topic Needs were geeks who were obsessed with academic topics
Sounds about right. Aside from Comic or Movie Geeks, you can get Car Geeks, Heavy Metal Geeks, Sports geeks... a whole spectrum. But nerds tend to focus on purely intellectual things, usually not considered mainstream cool, like maths, puzzles, trivia, science fiction, obscure literature, computers, etc.
Science fiction and computers should probably be removed from that list, or at least be given more nuance. Talking about obscure science fiction novels from the 1950s or programming in Assembly will get you called a nerd (much like e.g. being a curling fan will if you ask 90% of mainstream sports fans), but science fiction and computers, at least on a superficial and marketable level, have been solidly part of the mainstream for a generation or two now.
@@AnglosArentHuman When I say "Science Fiction", I mean the literature of Phillip Jose Farmer, Kim Stanley Robinson, Iain M Banks, etc. I'm not referring to mainstream "Sci-Fi" like The Avengers films, Dr Who, Star Trek or Back to the Future. Hagrid "Yer a Nerd Harry!"
I am the ungodly amalgamation between geek and dork.
Edit: I meant the pixel in between Nerd and IQ. Not Nerd.
So...a nerd?
@@midnight_blue_moon No, I am in between both nerd and IQ.
@@ikindajustexist520 I think you're just obsessed if your Venn diagram skills are any indicator.
So that's a nerd then
Ah, yes. A Gork™.
Who knew venn diagrams could induce such raucous laughter. 😅
The fact that he really has a good point make this even better
This was seriously funny to me, good on that guy for coming up with it!
High school footballers studying this video to up their bullying
I can't explain to you how much I love this
...guess i'm going to have to get smarter because i do NOT want to get labeled as a stalker 💀
Stalker
@@mikek0135 NOOOOO 😭
😁😄😆😝😂🤣
So you want to be a smart stalker instead of a normal stalker
The lisp in his voice really brings the whole thing together
This solidified me as a geek
His delivery of "uh, well youre a stalker" is what kills me
Didn't expect to discover I was a stalker today
That's an interesting scheme. In my opinion, geeks and nerds are just people who are socially awkward and obsessed with different things. Geeks are obsessed with fictional things or entertainment-based things, and nerds are obsessed with nonfictional things.
And then the sci-fi nerd came and blew up your paradigm.
I could see the punch line from so far away. I still broke down in laughter.
As a nerd this is 100% accurate
Oh no I've actually hit the jackpot
These diagnoses with a full color Venn diagram need to be added to the DSM.
I don't know how long it is since I've seen a correctly labelled Venn diagram. Thank you.
I was really expecting him to say you are f-ed if you were socially awkward and obsessed but being a stalker was even better.
I thought I was geek. Turns out I've been a dork the whole time.
"Nerd got hit in the head and became a stalker."
I'd watch that netflix special
Now I'm gonna make a story in my mind about this and if that was a movie or show I would watch it and if it was a book I would readmit
"did you call me a nerd?"
"Yes, nerrrrd."
"HMMMMMMMMMMMMM"
*epic rapping intensifies*
Hello, I’m a nerd who honestly thought it was just called autism
☝️🤓
Yes, I think those are essentially synonyms
@@peerappel2012 that thinking is quite a problem
Well, that's pretty close 🥸
It's all different words to categorize the same behaviours. You go with whatever label works for you.
@@humancat2434 Not really.
Now I finally accepted that I'm a dork, with this very easy-to-understand venn diagram
Human man from WOW at 1:06
Oh my god…I hear it. Good ears bro! You can even hear him throw his head back like in game
he makes a valid point
Socially Awkward and Obsessed could also be Autism, I get obsessed easily and I don’t like ever talking to anyone.
As a nerd I had different theory on this similar categories (no stalker great punchline).
I had organized it more along the lines of types quadrilaterals.
Dorks were socially awkward
Geeks were dorks that were obsessed with a topic
Needs were geeks who were obsessed with academic topics
And when I say Computers, I don't mean just casual enthusiasm, I mean programming language, obscure text-based adventures, posters of Woszniak and Gates on their wall..
We're all geeks in a lot of ways we might as well make the best of it
I've been called nerd and dork all my life, dork more than nerd, and it all makes sense now
I agree on everything except stalker. Socially awkward + obsession = SPAZ. Everyone knows this.
Dude had better humor than modern talk show hosts
i am currently a nerd but trying to shuffle my way over to the geek category
I'm in year seven , top set of the year so I think I've got the IQ , I'm quite social it's just that I often get ignored or just it just gets awkward, I am obsessed with science. I do have plans to be a physasist or something computer related. Preferably computer related.
Physicist
This is a confirmation that I am in fact a geek and not a nerd as people seem to be mistaken 🤣
Him: nobody wants to be a dork
Me: but I'm a dork (smart but incredibly awkward)
Is this available on a T-shirt??
this is a piece of art
I have suspicions about this one friend of mine, I am don't think he is that smart so the category he falls under is clear now thanks.
I’ve always been a geek.. this hit home
Damn I really have just always been a nerd huh… desperately trying to be a geek but I am still stuck firmly in the socially awkward category 😭
Being socially awkward usually comes from low self-esteem.
Maybe that's your personal "Construction Site" for getting better?
probably because you talk about yourself like that
My dad sent me this... I'm a clarified nerd of the family apparently. Kinda proud honestly as a girl with an older cousin brother who kinda just made me obsessed with the same stuff as him.
If anything geek and nerd are switched around no doubt. A nerd is just a smart kid usually obsessed with something while a geek is awkward and obsessed though being intelligent is fifty fifty
