    I'm taking their course for the part 107 test and I have already taken the on hands flight lesson. The flight lesson was better than I expected. I had talked to other companies but this seemed the best. I glad to say I was right. The course for the test is set up for you to pass it easily and theyve answered questions quickly too. Am I able to upload that new video with drone footage now to my monetized channel? Don't I need to take a Part 107 test first? Hi Emanuel, thanks for your question. It depends on the intent of your flight. If it's pure recreation and falls under the FAA's recreational rules (www.faa.gov/uas/recreational_fliers/), then there's no need to register. If you consider your drone flights to be non-recreational, then you would need to get your drone registered. If you're unsure, we usually recommend registering. I hope this helps!

    Very good point in the video that if your drone is already registered Recreationally & you plan on using it commercially, you have to register that specific drone Commercially.

    • @uavcoach
      @uavcoach  3 года назад +2

      Yes, the FAA has done a great job clarifying their language around what 'non-recreational' means. It was confusing for a while, but it feels a lot clearer now. From their website - "Non-recreational purposes include things like taking photos to help sell a property or service, roof inspections, or taking pictures of a high school football game for the school's website. Goodwill or other non-monetary value can also be considered indirect compensation. This would include things like volunteering to use your drone to survey coastlines on behalf of a non-profit organization. Recreational flight is simply flying for fun or personal enjoyment."

      @uavcoach  3 года назад +2

      "Registration" and "certification" are two different things - regardless of how you're using the drone, it needs to be registered per the guidance in this video. But I think you're asking about the Part 107 certification and whether or not you need to get your FAA Remote Pilot Certificate - short answer is yes, if you have any intention of monetizing your RUclips channel, that would be considered non-recreational in nature, so you'd want to get certified (and to register your drone under the Part 107 rules and not recreationally). Hope that makes sense!

      @uavcoach  3 года назад

      You would mark "no" - The FAA made this change a few weeks ago. I wish they wouldn't have, as it's a bit premature and confusing for folks! Thank you for surfacing in these comments, and I'll add a note to the description of the video. Here are some more notes from Kevin Morris at the FAA - "Drone registration update: The FAA DroneZone portal has been updated to incorporate Remote ID information. The update requires a registrant to indicate if their drone is Remote ID equipped or not. Currently, there are NO drones which are equipped with Remote ID. Although there are blogs and other sources which may claim differently, the FAA has not approved any Means of Compliance (MOC) for Remote ID at this time. If a registrant selects 'Yes' to the Remote ID equipped question, they will be required to enter additional information, including a serial number. The serial number needed is NOT the drone's serial number, rather, it's the Remote ID serial number (which doesn't exist). Entering the drone's serial number will not be accepted and not allow the drone to be registered."

      Thanks for the comment! Yes, the recreational registration process is slightly different in that you're not registering a specific model. You're paying $5 for one number that can be applied to multiple drones for a 3-year period. I believe the authorization form you're referencing is for controlled airspace authorization. That's not required for this registration process, but if you need to fly in controlled airspace, you can follow the steps in your FAA Drone Zone dashboard to request clearance.

When registering your drone, select "no" for now when asked about Remote ID. By September 2022, we should have more clarity from both the FAA and drone manufacturers like DJI as to what our next steps are as pilots.

    I'm a little confused and hope you can clear it up.
    I want to get the Dji Mini 2 but a little worried and want to get a few things clear if you can.
    It's under the 250g registration requirement and I would be flying it for recreation.
    I ran across a video of someone that had one, posted videos to youtube, and because he had ads on his channel, he said he got in trouble with the FAA because even though he was only making a small amount of money, it was still considered "Commerical Use" and considered it "being used for a business for making money".
    If I have a youtube channel, show drone footage but no ads on that video, but ads on other videos I have without the drone, will the FAA have a problem with that ?
    If say I decide to get a bigger drone, or register my drone just to be safe even if it's under 250g, and register it "I fly under part 107 or as a public aircraft" it say's " ... apply for a waiver/authorization under part 107 ... "
    If you register the drone under that, do you have to take the part 107 testing ?

      Hi Danny, thanks for reaching out. If you turn off ads for your drone-specific RUclips videos, that seems like a good, safe position to take. So I shouldn't have to register my mavic mini 2 if I will just be using it recreationally?

    If I’m shooting a short film and I want to use a drone for landscape shots, would that count as recreational or commercial? From my understanding, it would only be commercial if I intended to make a profit off of the film.

    • @uavcoach

      That is correct, Levent - this would be considered a "non-recreational" flight. Let us know if you have any questions about the certification process! More information over here >> uavcoach.com/drone-pilot-ground-school-course/

    Do you know if you can modify the registration once completed? Example. Go from "No" remote ID to "Yes" remote ID, later on. Or change name of Part 107 account name?

      Good question, Pedro. I recall many things that you can change by hopping in to edit the account/profile information. Yes, I believe the Remote ID question can be edited in the future.

    Do you need to register each drone separately or can you use the same registration # on multiple drones?

    • @uavcoach
      @uavcoach  2 года назад

      Hal, if you're flying for recreational purposes, you can use the same number on multiple drones. If you're flying for commercial purposes under the Part 107 rules, you'd need to register each drone model uniquely.

    I heard if you don’t register your drone commercial (part 107) and use the video for RUclips you can be fined..?

    • @uavcoach
      @uavcoach  3 года назад

      It depends on the intent of your flights, but yes, if you are uploading footage to RUclips, and your RUclips channel is either being monetized or promoting your business in any kind of way, then that would be considered "non-recreational" by the FAA and would require a Part 107 certificate.

      Yes, if you are just flying recreationally, there's a quick (and free) certification process required by the FAA. More information here: uavcoach.com/faa-recreational-drone-training/ If you plan to fly for non-recreational purposes, that's a different certification and here's more info: uavcoach.com/drone-pilot-ground-school-course/

      Hi Thomas, you can register your drone whenever you'd like - either before you get a Part 107 certificate, or after. When you register doesn't matter, just as long as you do it (and put the registration number on the drone) prior to flying.
