We did a series of videos a while back on dealing with bad fitup when TIG (and Stick) welding. In this video we are going to show you what to do if the gap is uneven. Sometimes a piece of beveled pipe doesn't have the cleanest cuts, so here's how you overcome those situations.

If you had a class being taught by Bob and Jodi from Welding Tips and Tricks a black hole would form from all the knowledge being gathered in one spot.
Tony Baggett Thanks for the kind words.
Tony Baggett it would also break the internet with everyone trying to sign up for it at once.
This is true.
Your inching up closer to Jay Leno's Garage as my favorite RUclips watch. Thanks Bob!
Nice video, camera man can you throw in some foot control shots along with the amps from time to time? Great camera work. Thank you and Bob.
I'm not sure if I got something in my eye or if I'm crying....that was BEAUTIFUL! I can pull that off on 16g tubing. :)
Loving all the pipe welding on this channel, including the open roots on plate. Keep it up! Thanks in advance for the api inverted branch test you said you're working on...awesome!
Hi Bob I watch your show every week I get a lot out of the welding video. I have been welding when I was with the State Of California but it was only making repairs to equipment. Now that I am retired I have been welding a lot and learning a lot as I go along. JD
Welding is somewhat addictive, and so is learning to cast aluminium. ;))
Very cool and educational. Thank you.
FIRS... uuggh..DAMMIT BRANDON !! lol
Hey,
I was always taught to use a knife edge with tig. Do you have a decent land because you are feeding it through the pipe?
Thanks ahead of time
That's not a weird fit. It would be a dream in the field where we cut with a wafer wheel or free hand torch and a 6in grinder to finish off everything.
Great Tips and video!
That weld was a thing of beauty.
..I had to take a welding test once for employment....rusty pipe about that size, 8 inch or so.... maybe 5/16" wall....guy says '''cut that, prep and weld uphill 6G"...all with only a cutting torch...no grinder anywhere.......SMAW....
Good morning Bob; I wanted to know how do you do a 6gr weld test with a mirror inside of a box. I have a weld test coming up,and it's at a navy ship yard. With SS 308; but I am hoping that you would show us useing ER 70s6.
Nice video, new to your channel. Hopefully you can make a video on how to weld pipe with miss alignment. :) so hard to find a job that has a perfect fit up.
Was I the only one who waited for the funny stuff at the end and there was nothing this time .... Just bacon frying sound.
Did you put a landing on the pipe cause of the 5/32 wire? or do you put a landing on all your pipe tig roots?
great vid. The split screen was really helpful.
lets get a heli arc mirror weld demo on some tube/pipe!
What's the brand tig welder that you're working with.
Getting flashburns watching all these videos...
Can you please do a video on a weld test with p91 chrome.
How many psi on a root pass please
amazing!
I've watched this video about 10 times
Amp on root pass?
What about using a "chill" ring
Did you release a Mig Monday video this week?
Alex Breitenbach yes, it's the video on stick welding with run off tabs.
Do you rest the tig torch cup on the piece when you walk or r you up higher ?
Diesel D I rest it on the piece, as stated toward the end.
can you do a video on a 6inch 6gr pipe test stick or mig root
It's on our list.
Nice! I'm aah learnin...
Necesito.aprende..asoldar.asi
I want to buy a good one.
But not too expensive.
Can you please do a videos about knowing how thick a pipe is when you say that it is schedule 60 or 80 and convert it into inches so a beginner welder like me can get an idea? Thanks and love your videos!
Ryan Manzi Tons of reference material out there for you. Text books, web, steel supply......
Bob Moffatt I’ve been searching and don’t know how to read the charts I find
But thank you!!

Why do steel tig rods have an orange color?
Copper plated
Why are they copper plated?
Helps to resist oxidation (rust) but will still rust if left in water for a long time.
The copper wont contaminate the weld?
Amper how ???
Good Aziz
Good Aziz
What welder are you using?
Dale Hicks Everlast
OK I have all hobarts on linclonm stick old one, ANd Victor touches on the gas
this has nothing to do with this video but I've been trying to braze aluminum with "no flux" brazing rod. I've tried propane, mapp gas, and oxy/aci but it won't hold. I can get it to stick great to one side but not the other. I can't figure out what in doing wrong. do I need to use flux?
I would of just run a hot pass with six o one one and then cap it with 7018 then slam down a 6 pack an stand on my head
How bout 3mm sheet outside and inside corner with stick? Would love to see that.
Would a spool gun be better to weld mig
