2 Years ago I had no TIG experience whatsoever. I need to weld the frame on a Yamaha YZF R1, specifically the rear subframe since it is welded and not bolt on like its successors. It didn't make sense spent more than $900 because at that price point a new replacement frame was an option. After doing about 2 months worth of manufacturer and unit research I decided on the 185DV. I purchased it just before Christmas 2017. I needed to weld dirty cast aluminum to dirty cast aluminum. To make matters trickier I had to do it in a garage with no useful heat in 10-20F. After a little preheating and practice on an old salvaged frame, using 5356 rod I ran 24 welds - which were my first production runs. Since that time I have had ZERO problems. No cracks or failures or even warnings of failures. Its a great GREAT machine, it is as good if not better than comparable big name units from Miller, Lincoln Hobart etc.., and it heads and shoulders above other Chinese models like the AHP and Eastwood offerings with more features like Stick and Pulse setting as well as a 5 year warranty. I try to find excuses to weld with this thing. I build gifts just to get more time with it. Its that good and that much fun. If you are looking for a small, portable., do-it-all machine you should not waste time at this point. You've found the best option - believe me, I spent 2 months looking and a year beating up on it without a single burp.
Thanks for sharing long term feedback. I also got sick of asking friends to do weld jobs on my bikes so I just bought it. Anyways I wanted to do fab and metal shaping work. Anyways, took me months to find something like 185dv and I finally ordered it last week. I hope it lasts long or _ even if it breaks, customer service would be good.
I didn't know David Spade had a welding channel!
You really should put out more content. From the looks of this video you do a lot of cool/good work!
I’m at hobart as well and just bought this welder hell yeah !!
I been hearing alot of good reviews on the Everlast ,i think with somebody just starting out that a good machine.
Etreamly Awesomeness ,you and that 185 Flow man NiCe brO
That welder has just about all the features you will need if you don't weld really thick aluminum. Excellent quality and features for the price.
Fred Almond I would agree with that I definitely would not want to weld over quarter 1/4” aluminum and that may be pushing it
Was all of the welding done in this review performed on 120v or 220? Do you think the machine would have performed to your liking on 120v ?
I get asked this question quite often no most of the welding was done on 220v but it’s does just about the same as every other machine running on 110v with 110 voltage you are limited to about 95 amps to maximum of 140 amps depending on the machine and the process you are welding with.
Very good review. I'm curious to know if the pulse weld has presets and if that help get the "layer of dimes" look. I'll be fabricating motorcycle frames with simple welds like tabs and bungs.
pulse is mainly useful for helping control your eat input while giving you more time to move your filler metal and move and dip and can be very useful on thin material If used correctly I think you can achieve stacked dimes look with pulse or without but may be easier to achieve a more consistent result
and on this welding machine it seems they added a lot of good features but they are still basic and don't have all of the variables but at the same time the presets are very good so for most people it's all they need some machines get so complicated that it can be beyond normal people to adjust them correctly
@@CreativityUnleashed Hey thanks for replying. I'm learning a lot from your vid. The Everlast website states there are 2 presets: 1 pulse a second and 50 pulses a second. They make it sound like there are only 2 settings. Is there a way to dial in other pulse settings? And can this welder (out of the box) deliver delicate welding possibilities, on a precision level or will that require a different torch for smaller parts (like motorcycle bungs etc). Also have you found other foot pedals that work on the 185 and is the foot pedal an on/off type or is it more like a rheostat gas pedal?
@@chappledesign yes it just has 2 different pulse ing presets but for most things they are grate!!
the Footpedal is very precise and fully controllable which is very good so yes
and I prefer Everlast over a lot of the mini thousand dollar Miller machines I've used at welding school everything it does it does very well top-notch
it just comes down to how much you wanna to spend do you want all the functions you could ever want or need or do you just want the most common practical ones
@@CreativityUnleashed Cool! Thanks for the reply! I'm getting close to pulling the trigger. These offer 3 year warranty? Have you ever had to deal with the company. Just curious how that went if so.
Also, have you ever used an Eastwood TIG 200 Digital? Curious to know how it compares.
Nice review. Is this a good welder to Tig thin wall chromoly? Thanks
I haven't tried that but I would think so.
👍👍
Hey there... wondering if you still have your 185 tig? Still a good machine? what type of tungsten would you recommend and diameter for aluminum nothing over 1/4 thickness because I'm learning ?
Thanks very much from Canada.
Green tip, 3/32 or 1/8” if you are doing the thicker stuff
Would you say this is a middle level unit tig machine for a weekend welder. Im looking for a tig machine to use in my garage and make roof racks or fabricate some off road bumpers. Will it weld aluminum? and how thick of carbon metal can it weld?
Tito Alvarado yes this is a great machine for the beginner and or advance welder because it has really good presets already built in. it should be able to do just about anything you would need.
@@CreativityUnleashed so you can weld aluminum? how thich of aluminum?
Yes it’s a very good mid-level welding machine. And it does a good job on aluminum.
The thickness of steel you can weld depends greatly on your joint preparation it will weld 1/4” inch easily and with the right joint preparation almost infinite thickness
I just ordered this machine after it being recommended to me I was just curious if you would know of any specific generator this would run good off of? I've read the instruction manual for it online but I'm having a hard time finding something that fits into what they suggest and that I can afford
Tevin Liner That is a very good question I have operate a lot of welding machines off of generators for this machine I think the smallest I would recommend is an 8.5 kilowatt generator however bigger always works better. And I’m quite sure if you have any other questions ever last May be more helpful.
Everlast says, none. Wall power only.
What size breaker are using for 220v? There site claims it only needs a 20amp. Only asking because I'm debating between this and the 200dv
In my shop I have a 240 volt 50 amp as well as a 240 volt 20 amp I believe it is and I I've never had issue either way.
Awesome good to know thanks for the information man! You should do another video with this welder stick welding have yet to see one on here for this one
Do you still have this machine?
What’ kind of gas mixture are u using? Is it the same for steel and aluminum?
With TIG/GTAW gas tungsten arc welding nowadays people are just use Argon gas for TIG welding no matter what metal they are welding on.
a long time ago they used to use helium gas but helium is starting to become rare.
I hope this answered your question!
Tig time did a 10 minute run with this welder and never hit over temp or shut off.
Is the machine still holding up
Yes work perfectly so far.
Have you tried it on open root 6010?
I have not tried opinion route with it with E6010 but as far as I understand it's not particularly designed for 6010 and it doesn't have arc Forest. it isn't essential but can be nice to have for open Root and when I've used it with 6010 it didn't have a very driving arc .
Hola amigo, recomiendas la 185 DV para trabajos de taller pequeño de aluminio, soldar bicicletas de aluminio, rines, radiadores, etc? Muchas gracias y saludos
Hay algun trabajo de soldadura por ahi?
Creo que si
How does that finger pedal work
I like it Quite well !!!
anything else you want to know ?
Creativity Unleashed is it just one amp set up or you can control it like a foot pedal ?
@@_dirtyfab3710 it's just a on off switch.
I have another machine that uses a TIG torch with a wheel where you can change the amperage while you weld but I find it quite difficult to do.
So for the most part I would prefer just a on off switch.
Piece of junk mine has been in the shop getting fixed more than I ever use it
