Man... even when rouge suspected shadow wasn’t the original, she said nothing to him because she knew how afraid he was of not being real...rouge doesn’t get enough credit for her empathy

That Shadow is actually the original. As you can see, in the true ending of Shadow the Hedgehog, Eggman said to him that he's the same Shadow as the one seen in Adventure 2.

The ending for Team Dark is so satisfying because we hear Shadow say “Some things never change” in response to Rouge’s comment about Knuckles. That can only mean one thing: That that Shadow IS the real deal and not a clone.

I think he means that more in regard to Rouge hunting for treasure, not knuckles specifically. We know he's real because of the Shadow the Hedgehog game as well as Metal copying his data. If Metal could have used a copy for data he would have.

In the Japanese version of SA2 when Sonic was asked by Shadow on how he survived the exploding capsule instead of saying “What can I say I die hard” he said “Well I’m stubborn and full of surprises”

@XLUMSY well “I die hard” is a good way to get off the same meaning in less words. The issue with Heroes is that they were too faithful and literal
Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 both had some… issues… when it came to the cutscenes. The same scene sometimes had completely different dialogue depending on which story you were playing. This was especially true in Sonic Adventure.
However, I think this probably a result of localization for the Sonic Series being somewhat in its infancy during the Dreamcast Era. Although it existed prior to that, the localization in the Classic Era was mostly confined to manuals and on-screen menus… and the former also had translation issues.
Sonic Heroes is technically included in the Dreamcast Era, but the major difference between it and the actual Dreamcast games (aside from console compatibility) is that, for this game, Sega contracted with 4Kids to provide the voices for the characters in the English versions of both the games and the Sonic X anime, and this resulted in the in-game dialogues more closely matching the Japanese scripts. Oddly enough though, the Japanese version of Sonic X uses dialogue and even music directly from the games for the SA and SA2 arcs-for example, Live and Learn plays during the battle against the Biolizard-but the English version does not. Not only is the dialogue different from the English version of the games, it’s different from the Japanese version as well!
Regardless, this progression in the translation quality is what puts Sega leagues ahead of Nintendo when it comes to localization. It’s something that should be respected, because this kind of localization shows greater consideration for the preferences of the customers. It also requires a MUCH larger staff, because you have to have VAs, translators, and script editors for every single language that the game is released in, which in Sega’s case, is at least six nowadays. Nintendo’s approach pretty much just requires a translator because in most games, they just forgo the idea of intelligible audio dialogue to begin with. 🤦🏼♀️ The last Kirby game had a song that was only in Japanese. Yeah, they translated it, but did they make an actual English version, the way that Sega has made two versions of Vandalize for the upcoming Sonic Frontiers? Nope.
Man, So refreshing to see the old Shadow. And the early beef between Shadow and Omega was great.

This is still my favourite interpretation of E-123 Omega he's so funny in this game and in the Archie Comics (Kinda glad to see that in Team Sonic Racing and in Sonic Forces they go back to this version of Omega)
They need his original VA back, this voice actor really played out Omega well.

Sonic and Shadow going at each other after exchanging a few snarky quips and then smirking is PERFECT. Few words, just some old rivals reuniting using their fists. All good fun.

Heroes was my first 3D Sonic game (I'd played the mega drive ones before) and I instantly loved Team Dark without even knowing what happened in Adventure 2. The nostalgia is real with this one.

My first 3D Sonic game was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on the GameCube.
And thus, we learn where the "Shadow the Hedgehog" game came from: answering the cliffhanger about if Shadow was the original Sonic Heroes left up in the air.

@@donathan2933 yeah Eggman confirmed it. Though I'd say Black Doom confirmed it first, he told Shadow he was created from his blood and put Shadow under his mind control also in The Last story of ShTH.

I'd love to see more character dynamics between rouge and other characters. I think Sonic and Rouge (platonically) would be fun, since both are sassy and mischievous and could annoy shadow together, and Tails and Rouge's skillets together would be unstoppable.
Sega need to pay attention to the fan base.

According to Shadow your right, but he could just be an Android that gained Sentience and Sapience, and so Eggman locked him up to avoid most Sci-Fi movies with AI from happening, and then like triple lied to Shadow cuz he got super depressed for some reason and Eggman thought this isn't a good idea "you're totally real Shadow"
I agree with @StormTrooperEX. Also, if you think about it, Shadow originally died in Super Form. Even if it was a sacrifice, he would be pretty hard to kill in that state, and he is "the ultimate life form" and being that Eggman is the son of one of Shadows original creators, and a genius himself, I think he would be able to "rebuild" him. And maybe because he didn't have Black Doom helping him this time he couldn't do it perfectly.

Anyways, _Sonic has survived a fall from space at least 4 times_ in the games (Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic Advanced, and Sonic Unleashed, as far as I can recall off the top of my head).
If a "normal" hedgehog didn't splatter all over the Tornado (think of the TV Tropes page "not the fall that kills you"), and Sonic The Werehog has a thick enough skull that he didn't even need the biplane to land on, why shouldn't a genetically engineered "ultimate life form" be able to survive it with little more than a bit of -brain damage- retrograde memory loss? ;^)
ChaosRayZero I can answer your first question! Shadow didn’t make it back to the ARK because he was too exhausted. He used so much of his chaos energy, his limiters even came off by the amount of energy he used at that moment
When Shadow had a well rounded personality and could act normal around people. He was likeable. I miss that Shadow.
I also love how he either stiffen or simply goes limp when he receive physical contact.
Anybody else notice that this Team starts out with Rouge as the leader and then abruptly changes to Shadow calling the shots about halfway through? And then it’s like that for like, the rest of the series. 😂

@@DestroyingSanity Haha. Agreed. Shadow has the strongest convictions out of the members of Team Dark. He’s not an idealistic hero like the members of Team Sonic-who will stick to their ideals even when it’s unrealistic-but he has stronger convictions than Rouge, who borders on neutral at times, and Omega, who basically has no morals at all. Following the events of his own game, Shadow’s motivation is to protect the world so that nobody else will ever have to go through the things that he has, even if it’s at the expense of destroying himself (Sonic Battle). At the same time, he’s not willing to simply submit and let himself be destroyed just because people may fear him (Sonic 06).

Team chaotix was their enemy without knowing it and rouge figured it out on a gut feeling.

The reason why Dr. Eggman put Shadow in the capsule between the events of Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes, because he was trying to recover and restore Shadow's lost memories. However Rouge released and woke up Shadow, and his memories were not fully recover and restore yet. This was all Rouge's fault. If she never found Shadow in Dr. Eggman's secret base in the first place, none of this would ever happen.
Interesting, never thought about it that way.
That doesn't make any sense though. Why would he try to do that when he could easily manipulate Shadow into doing his bidding, I mean he's the antagonist for a reason.

In my head cannon this, and the future Shadow is a Buggy Android that gained Human Intelligence and the ability to ignore his coding, and has memory issues, and to Avoid the plot of most Sci-Fi movies with Ai gaining Human intelligence, he locked him up, and that's why in Shadow, and Battle he loses his memory again, and why his personality is different to the Shadow in Adventure 2
I see. Looking back on this now about 10 or more years since having played those games, I reason that Eggman found Shadow's dead body somewhere on earth and attempted to bring him back to life, or rebuild him, and in his attempts he also managed to replicate him. The Shadow in this game and following is the rebuilt Shadow but there were some things he wasn't able to recover or heal from, or even retain. But that's just how I look at it. Yours makes sense too.
There's only one Shadow, and he was always the same character with memory or not.
That makes sense in Heroes (and probably many of the later games), but in Shadow The Hedgehog and Sonic Battle, why would Eggman's "buggy android" _remember Maria?_
Did Eggman duplicate the brain in its entirety, PTSD flashbacks and all? If he did, _why?!_
There's also dialogue during "the last way" (that is, _the canon ending)_ in Shadow The Hedgehog where Eggman admits to sending a robot to rescue Shadow, and tells him that _your player character is indeed the real one._ Sure, Eggman's far from the most trustworthy person in the world, but he doesn't tend to lie unless there's something in it for him. _What would he gain from lying about that?_ (I've seen someone claim that Eggman might've been trying to give his android a confidence boost for that final fight, but _that explanation seems kinda iffy.)_

Omega is the best robot in this game

Rouge, Shadow and Omega compliment each other perfectly. The high class jewel thief/government spy, the quiet and troubled ultimate life form, and the serious and rebellious E-Series robot. You wouldn't think they would come to care about each other, but they do in the course of this one game.
What if I told you guys, Team Dark almost didn't exist? They were planning on putting Rouge in with Amy and Cream, leaving Shadow dead, and Omega wasn't even thought of. And... I get it. Amy and Cream were already depicted as female counterparts to Sonic and Tails, why not add in Rouge to complete the set? (Heck, "Team Rose/Team Sonic" is also a dead giveaway). But they did a brilliant move by creating Team Dark.

3:45 Is it ever explained why Metal Sonic had a Shadow Android on the Egg Albatross? Because it just seems to come out of nowhere, especially since we don't see a Shadow Android in Team Sonic, Rose, or Chaotix's stories.
There was a lot of unanswered questions in the game but that can be said many of the games.
My theory is that Eggman had some robots he was working on with him, advancing their development. That one happens to drop out for plot convenience.

Without Maria, Shadow will still be an edge lord forever, and things will never change him back at all.

It's 2018 and yet there are still People Who think this Shadow is a clone. In Shadow the Hedgehog during the final real boss battle, eggman admit that he lied to Shadow and that he is the real one. He send a robot to save him. Go search eggman's confession shadow the hedgehog if you dont believe me

Actually past the 9 minute mark of the true final boss in Shadow the Hedgehog, Eggman reveals he was lying and that he sent a robot to save him.
If Infinite the Jackal travel back in time and kill Shadow the Ultimate Lifeform before the events of Sonic Heroes, none of this would have ever happened.
Meaning: Team Dark, Shadow the Hedgehog (video game), Sonic 2006, and more Shadow's actions will never exist at all.
Shadow killed the Jackal Squad, and turned Infinite into a monster on purpose. And Infinite wants his family (Jackal Squad) back immediately.

Why can't G.U.N. send soldiers (instead of Rouge the Bat) to find Shadow and E-123 Omega in the first place?
It's unfair, and it doesn't make sense. And besides, Rouge the Bat and Sonic never tell anybody anything about Shadow being alive and having amnesia (lost his memory). Why? Because nobody cares.
