Agreed! Once Upon a Nightmare is great too, but the lyrics in this one hit me so much deeper.
I love all their ballads but this one is better than Once Upon... Tides of Time is stunningly beautiful!

Epica has many great ballads
Yeah. This. This might be the best metal ballad ever. Love love love a couple Kamelot ballads and Pain of Salvation's Iter Impius is legendary. But this one is perfect. I don't know what it is about that two tone brass motif that plays in the back once the electric instruments come in, but it's SO POWERFUL.

Great reaction! One of my favorite Epica ballads. Written by Simone and Mark upon the passing of Mark's maternal grandmother. She was a big supporter of the band and allowed them to rehearse at her home. The lyrics are a beautiful story of a person grieving the loss of someone important to them and all the feelings of loss, gratitude for their presence in our lives, for the lessons they taught, and the inevitability of our end. Simone's voice is so perfect and the orchestration when the band comes in is so amazing. There used to be a beautiful fan made lyrics video on YT but it seems to have disappeared. There is a beautiful live acoustic version of this song from Pinkpop in 2010 where her vocals are even more prominent. ruclips.net/video/ERQmengyF1I/видео.htmlsi=f2hPnxTqYMhxw52Y. Video is re-mastered by Metallwish so it is high quality and has the full 4 song set. 20 minute video so perhaps you could do the whole set (Tides of Time, Solitary Ground, Quietus, and This is the Time).
The melodie was written by Coen Janssen and the lyrics by Simone Simons and Amanda Somerville. Mark dedicated "Kingdom of Heaven" to hi grandmother.

Serenade of self-destruction, quite a heavy song with Simone singing from low to high. In the studio version you hear the choir better than in the Retrospect version, but I prefer the last one because of the full orchestra. Enjoy!

Ren dropped a track last week called Troubles. It's a autobiographical hip hop track with a dope back track and crazy production. He got the sample from the original 1937 Vera Hall Trouble so Hard. Would love to see you react to it. ❤

Hey! I've just binge watch all of your Epica reactions! What an amazing band and your reactions are great! My songs suggestions would be Essence of Silence, Beyond the Matrix and Canvas of Life.
I would also recommend the band Dream Theater, totally different style but they are awesome. Great dynamic and complex rythm with awesome melodies and solos. Their performance live, especially when they are with an orchestra, is incredible!

One of my favorites. Still don't understand why there is no good live version of it. All you can find are some mobile records and either there totally bad, or even if they are decent for 90% of the song, they then start to distort totally at the crescendo at the end.
I would love a good live version of this song.
