One of my favourite items are my double breasted blazers. Love them worn with grey or white roll neck sweaters or with shirt and tie. In fact I tracked down a brand new original Royal Navy issue blazer in a blue so dark it looks black in a certain light. Of course with gold buttons with anchors! These blazers are very sartorial but worn with a pocket square etc they can be less formal. Pity the blazer worn by Brosnan in Goldeneye was not seen more in the movie. Great video David.

I used to enjoy the look of double breasted blazers and had a very similar navy one with gold buttons from Brooks Brothers. Unfortunately, it was too dressy for most activities and I think the last time I wore it was as part of a Halloween costume when I went as Thurston Howell III (the millionaire) from Gilligan's Island. If I need to class up my outfit these days, I stick to my single-breasted navy blazer with gold monogrammed buttons.

There was a website around the time of casino Royale that had a long updated biography of Daniel Craig’s bond. It had even voice recordings of Villiers (the guy that retched a little when they found Solange’s body in the the Bahamas) giving his biography. He was born in 1968. His father worked for Vickers defence systems. He joined the navy and attended the naval war college. He served on a submarine during gulf war one. He Was an intelligence officer. He then volunteered for the special boat service (British navy seals) and served in small operations all over the world. Trained in air and land vehicles. Was recruited by MI6 and then became a double 0. It was an interesting read and full of cool detail and placed bond in a modern 90s 2000s 9/11 war on terror sort of world as a naval man then special forces and then MI6.

Looks great on you, David! I personally believe that anyone can wear a double-breasted blazer. There shouldn't be any rules as to how tall or slim or old one needs to be. That's just silly. The dramatic cut of your blazer reminds me most of Moore's Italian blazer in Moonraker (which seems distantly inspired by Savile Row's Tommy Nutter), but the overall style I think is most like Brosnan's blazer in GoldenEye. Very Bondian!

I think the double breasted blazer was at odds with the ever narrowing style of the 1960's. It's much more a creature of the boxy '30's / 40's. I can't even imagine Jimmy Stewart without one. But it's awkward by the 60's. So, when early 1970's fashions began to widen, it made sense again. Roger Moore and Johnny Carson are two examples of men who looked so much cooler in 1970's fashion! And that included the revival of the double breasted blazer.

Unpopular opinion but in my view it takes a certain kind of man to pull off a double breasted blazer. Frankly Roger had the whole package, in terms of his body shape, complexion, and the command of his interpretation Bond as a playboy, which made him off that particular blazer effortlessly.
If anyone else pulls off a double breasted blazer to that same degree, it'd John Spencer's character in The West Wing.
