I used to be obsessed with leatherman had a bad experience with one breaking and poor warranty service amd swore off of them now i carry a pair of irwin needle vice grips(they pinch onto my work vest out of the way) and they do things the leatherman couldn't dream of (pinching air/oil lines on a truck to make it back to town holding garage/rolling doors up or as an impromptu handle for more things than i could shake a stick at) also big + on the fast back i dont have the one you showed but a coworker does and it rips pockets up and the driver goes m.i.a but the utility knife is for sure a slept on edc item cheap and can beat on them without worrying about breaking them(on a side note husky makes a 5inch utility blade that can fit into the fast back but not fold if you ever needed just a little more knife) solid video with great insight hope your channel grows!

I first discovered EDC by accident, Because I run and participate in arcade events, and often need to do quick repair or mods for people. I used to carry full size tool set along with all my arcade equipment and thought there has to be a better way... Without the EDC community I wouldn't have been able to find the tools that I love and use all the time. But Damn. There is definitely an obsession with knives, and premium flashy, bulky tools. After I made my first portable/slimmed down set, All the changes I've made is to slim down even further. A single tool with covers more than one use case that I'm currently carrying multiple for, and smaller tools that are still functional.
I'm down to the point where when I head out, I carry phone, wallet, keys. Nobody realizes anything is amiss until I need to pull out a tool or someone asks for one , And then they get to see that I either pull it from my wallet, or detach it from my keys. Right now, even a swiss army knife feels excessive to me in terms of bulk. Thus, why one of the things in my wallet is a swiss card rather than a separate SAK to keep track of or dangle off something.
If I carry a backpack, Then I'll also include a mint tin of consumable supplies. I will click around EDC stuff randomly, but I rarely find anything I'm interested in anymore. And am kind of frustrated that so many things that's trending are always so large and bulky. People's "EDC" kits have so much redundancy, bulk, or tools they don't need, -- The amount and bulk I wanted to avoid carrying around for occasional events, people are carrying around as EDC every day. Kind of defeats the purpose.

It is always interesting to see how people get to EDC.

Agreed. Most people, even if they tinker and work around, will find that a SAK + plier combo is all they really need.
If they need to work harder on screws -- get a screwdriver -- when you integrate other tools that do not work with a multitool it weakens the purpose of that multitool; pliers limit and completely change the real estate of the other tools to the handles, and hex drivers just waste more space for the rest of its toolset.

Carry only what you need - just make it multiuse.

I think it just depends on your needs. When I worked in manufacturing, my needs were completely different than they are now. I carry an expensive pen (Big Idea Design) that I would have never carried around the industrial machines that I used to. I have no need to carry a multitool or pliers these days when they were part of my carry then.
It's why I like the edc space. Everyone gets to decide what works for them.

I’ve never really found a good use for a leatherman type multi tool. SAK always does best for me, anything more and I’m going to the tool box for a dedicated tool.

For years I have carried a small lightweight flashlight of various models (stream light microstream, peon 2, stylus pro, olight S2, S2R2, baton 3, arkfield, etc), a midsize lightweight pocket knife (too many to list - Spyderco Chapparel is what I have mainly carried the last few years), a quality keychain multitool (almost always a Squirt PS4) and occasionally I will substitute out my main knife for a SAK FarmerX, deluxe tinker, or evolution 23 depending on what tools I need. I generally have some tweezers on my keychain and a basic disposable pen as well. That covers 99% of my needs.

I'm in the uk and as locking knives are illegal to carry without VERY good reason, switch/flicks will get you jailed regardless if seen with it. I carry a SAK in a pocket and a small flashlight, pliers are rarely needed, but I'll take a gerber dime if im going to need them, thow it in a pack/pouch with sharpener, pen/tech pencil, paper. Never need much more.
