    The last month I've been looking deep into the JSF and ATF programs of the USAF, and the YF-22A really stuck out to me, but I'll have to get around and make a YF-23 Black Widow II for the fanboys out there. In any case, thank you all for almost 7k already, I can't believe how fast we are growing, especially with being demonetized, but that's not what I'm here for. Enjoy the video and God Bless!
    The Lockheed/Boeing/General Dynamics YF-22 is an American single-seat, twin-engine fighter aircraft technology demonstrator designed for the United States Air Force (USAF). The design was a finalist in the USAF's Advanced Tactical Fighter competition, and two prototypes were built for the demonstration/validation phase of the competition. The YF-22 won the contest against the Northrop YF-23, and was developed into the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor. The YF-22 has a similar aerodynamic layout and configuration as the F-22, but with differences in the position and design of the cockpit, tail fins and wings, and in internal structural layout.
    In the 1980s, the USAF began looking for a replacement for its fighter aircraft, especially to counter the advanced Su-27 and MiG-29. A number of companies, divided into two teams, submitted their proposals. Northrop and McDonnell Douglas submitted the YF-23. Lockheed, Boeing and General Dynamics proposed and built the YF-22, which, although marginally slower and having a larger radar cross-section, was more agile than the YF-23. Primarily, for this reason, it was picked by the Air Force as the winner of the ATF in April 1991. Following the selection, the first YF-22 was retired to a museum, while the second prototype continued flying until an accident relegated it to the role of an antenna test vehicle.

      It saw service in iran though in which a f-22 flew right under a pair of iranian f-4s without them even realizing. Then the f-22 rose up beside them to which the iranian pilots subsequently shit their pants

      @@bmdoes_stuff6861yeah- F-4s. They’re gen 3 fighters. It’s no feat that the F-22 (a 5th gen stealth fighter) rose up behind them without being detected. The F-4 ran an AN/APQ-120 radar, which would never have detected an F-22. For the F-22 to be worth its cost, I would want to see it prove itself again an SU-57, for a fair fight

    I can't explain why, but I've always preferred the looks of the YF-22A to the production-model Raptors.
    I think it might be the fewer angles on the wingtips, as it kinda reminds me of an earlier F-16A (Block 1 to 10).
    I guess it just has a very late 80s/early 90s look to it

      what i notice is the nose has more angles and comes to more of a point which looks dope. i personally like the production 22's more because they look sleeker to me.

      @@dsafgsh What unreliability? Let the jet first be mass produced with finalized model with its even more powerful designated proper engine first before going for the usual anti russian bias againsts Russian Jets. Pretty sure Su 57 has more stealth than most planes out there except F22 and F35 while not sacrifisingthe potential to be the most dominating Non BVR jet as well. Heck even in BVR that Jet is scary with its hypersonic missiles. Not saying its superior to anything but as an avid lover of fighter birds, I love everything F22 to F14 to the Migs and Su's and hate seeing stupid bashing and ego boasting especially from the American side.

    • @chrisbacon3071
      @chrisbacon3071 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@pixelnazgul Advantage to V tails: Ideally, with fewer surfaces than a conventional three-aerofoil tail or a T-tail, the V-tail is lighter and has less wetted surface area, so thus produces less induced and parasitic drag. However, NACA studies indicated that the V-tail surfaces must be larger than simple projection into the vertical and horizontal planes would suggest, such that total wetted area is roughly constant; reduction of intersection surfaces from three to two does, however, produce a net reduction in drag through elimination of some interference drag.
      Light jet aircraft such as the Cirrus Vision SF50, the Eclipse 400, the Sonex SubSonex or the Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aerial drone often have the power plant placed outside the aircraft. In such cases V-tails are used to avoid placing the vertical stabilizer in the exhaust of the engine, which would disrupt the flow of the exhaust, reducing thrust and increasing wear on the stabilizer, possibly leading to damage over time.
      In military aircraft, V-tails reduce the number of right angles on an aircraft, improving its stealth characteristics.
      Disadvantages to V tails: In the mid-1980s, the Federal Aviation Administration re-assessed the Beechcraft Bonanza due to safety concerns. While the Bonanza met the initial certification requirements, it had a history of fatal mid-air breakups during extreme stress, at a rate exceeding the accepted norm. The type was deemed airworthy and restrictions removed after Beechcraft issued a structural modification as an Airworthiness Directive.
      V-tailed aircraft require longer rear fuselages than aircraft with conventional empennages to prevent yawing. This tendency, called "snaking", was apparent on taking off and landing on the Fouga CM.170 Magister, which has a relatively short fuselage.
