What an awesome Ford Torino GT Fastback! Equipped with a 390 CI V8 with automatic transmission. The engine sounds healthy, and the overall condition of this 1968 survivor is excellent, with the exception of some minor paint scars. It is fun to see a car girl like Brittany, who has knowledge of the vehicle she owns and drives. The interior is in pristine condition. It has super low mileage for a car this old. Leave it to you Lou, for another unique classic Ford Torino.

Oh, my, Lou! This one hits home. My Dad had a 1968 Ford Torino Gt fastback that he special ordered in 1967 that was built just before the UAW went on strike around December 1967. His was gulf stream aqua with a black stripe and 302 cid engine with an automatic. Even that smaller engine had a rumble that me and my sister could tell "Dad's home" because of the sound of the engine. It was stock but that sound....
Her car is also built before January 1968 as it does not have head restraints so it is also an early build like my Dad's. Her's has the shoulder belts in the ceiling - I don't recall that my Dad's had that so hers likely was built after my Dad's. I would have remembered them because my Dad would have complained about them hitting him in the head!
I personally think that the Torino was one of the most beautiful larger fastback cars of the era - especially compared to the awkward first generation Charger that really looked tacked onto a sedan platform.
Thanks for sharing this with us, Lou! As always, your channel is MUST SEE!

Yeah! I noticed the shoulder belts up there too! My 69 Cobra has them and I wonder if that's something they put in because of the big block? I also noticed this one doesn't have the Go-Pac so.. I'm not sure if they offered it in 68?, but this one doesn't have the 8000 RPM tach. That red interior is crazy cool too! What an absolutely sweet ride, and man what a survivor!!

She must have some connections we’re not aware of … always remember a friend/neighbor had 2 of these when I was a youngster and although I never rode in them I was aware that they had the 428’s which were quite uncommon . ¡Saludos cordiales, Lou!

Great survivor car! I had a 1968 Torino GT Fastback with 390 automatic back in 1972. Bought it used for $700. Didn't keep it long but it was a blast to drive with that 390 and would absolutely smoke the right rear tire (no limited slip). The guy I bought it from decided he wanted it back so I sold it back to him for the same price I paid. Had a 1967 Fairlane GTA w/390 before that and a 65 Mustang 2+2 before that. My only Ford experiences over the years.

So when I was in Jr Hi and Hi School there was a group kids from my neighborhood. who were on a weekend TV dance show in Houston Tx. Every Saturday for years we car-pooled across town to the ABC station that put on the show. One of the moms had 1968 Torino GT with a 427/Auto In green on green, totally loaded. What a hotrod! Absolutely best sounding engine of all time. All the parents had a great mix of mid 1960-1970 pinnicale years of GM and Ford gear with one Charger thrown in. There was a 1rst year Toronado and a beautiful 66 Riviera GS, a 66 Grand prix a really cool GTO and a few sweet caddys, a couple of Electras 225s, and a couple of suicide Lincolns along the way. As the kids got older there were several camaros and mustangs. Houston was just car crazy and I keep seeing this great iron on your channel Lou, it really brings back memories.

Hi, Lou! And hello to you, too, Brittany! It's so exciting and so rare to meet a nice, happy girl like you with a delightful personality and a genuine passion for classic automobiles! Your father taught you well, indeed, I'll second that recommendation of raising car girls! This car has such a sleek profile with the fastback roof and the red C stripes. You sure look marvelous driving it, and I love that you love cars that aren't the usual exhibits like Mustangs! (In fact, that's why I love station wagons. I have a 1967 Pontiac Bonneville wagon.) You're so fortunate to have found an amazing well-preserved low-mileage survivor like this, and it definitely suits you to a T (as in Torino)!
Lou, you've really outdone yourself here! I think this ranks as one of your best episodes yet! Brittany is a real sweetheart!❤Many thanks to both of you for taking us on a virtual fun Grand Touring ride!

I think it was autumn 1969, I was almost 6 and in kindergarten, when my older brother, already an adult, bought his first brand new car. It was a yellow 69 Fairlane 500 fastback, a step below the Torino. It had the 302 small block, but it was still enough to get you in trouble. It was one of my favorite cars in our family. My parents drove it plenty of times, and my older sister sideswiped a telephone pole with it when by brother tried to teach her to drive. I'm digging this survivor 68, and I like survivors the best. I like restored cars too, but it's only original once.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for those memories this episode brought. When I got out of the service I brought home a '69 Torino Gt, 428CJ, 4-speed, deep red with black interior, console delete. A few days later I met my future wife in her '68 that was identical to mine except for the year. Week later she called crying, had just rolled hers down a gully coming out of a corner. Said the steering locked up, which I didn't accept until discovered the steering box was froze. Past boyfriend had played with the worm gear and the box did what they do if you do that.
Found her a '69 GT with a blown engine. Swapped everything out of hers into it, including the seats-she didn't like head rests. Year later after we were married I came home to be told mine was upside down in the ditch near her parents house. No story, just said when she left she showed off for her little brother and it got away from her. I replaced it with a 71 Charger Rt, 385hp 6-pack, that she never touched the key of. Together 4 years, married 3, and the month we divorced she put her GT on it's roof. 4 years she put 3 fine GTs on their roofs, well 1 wasn't her fault.

Y'all can bet this Torino GT stood out on the car lot in '68. I'm guessing it was on one of those ramp platforms sitting in the corner of the lot facing a four way intersection. I say this because I can remember seeing one once. It was a lighter blue GT Cobra Jet 428. Beautiful car, stood out so well it would stop traffic making sort of a traffic jam. I was only 7yrs old and the impression that car made on me lasted a lifetime. I was crushed the day we were headed to Piggly Wiggly and it was not there. For three days it would cross my mind, each time opening the memory of the day we actually stopped and checked out the new Fords. Dad was looking at wagons and four doors, me I was checking out that Torino. Now it was MIA, never to be seen I was sure. Then on a Saturday afternoon,we went to my uncles house and there in his driveway, next to my aunts '66 Charger sat that very Torino. Blue, black interior,428 with a 4 speed the car that put oil in my veins and made my heartbeat sound like a big block idle. I'll never forget that car and the times I was fortunate to ride in it. Thanks Uncle Richard... you're the cause of this gearhead who cannot shake this fever known as Hotrod...and I thank you for it...

Always loved these cars! They're good looking and rather racy with the fastback. I looked at a '69 like it when I was a kid, but it was the inverse of this car - red with black stripes and a black interior.
It had a 302 and that darned column shifter with bucket seats too...

Cool car. Thank you! The real monster came in 1969 as the Ford Torino Talladega. It came with the 428 standard. It was enough to woo Richard Petty away from Mopar and to Ford. I have a die-cast model of the Talladega Richard Petty drove and he autographed the windshield and the box it came in.
As a side note. Ford offered complete crate engines of the 427 used in the Cobras. Some made their way into Mustangs which had the 390 or 428 FE engines and the Torino fastbacks.
The Cobra 427 would last for years afterward but without the rear of the cranks drilled for a pilot.

These Torino's Fastback don't have a bad angle no matter which way you look at it.
They look fast just standing still.
Imagine back in 1968 these Torino's were just ahead of anything from Mopar or GM.
