Love the car! Back in '78 I drove a '68 Mustang and a guy working next door owned one of these that I really wanted to purchase. Not 390 but 302-4V w/ 4 speed Toploader. A pale yellow car, really nice.
Almost identical to my very first car, a Fairlane 500 (bought in 1971). Mine was gold with gold interior. My bucket seats had the built in headrests. Mine had the center console. One thing, the ring on the shifter is a reverse lockout, many people that would try to drive mine tried to get it in reverse without puling the lockout and i would need to get under the car to rearrange the shifter. Mine also had the rear window fan, very rare. My car did not have power windows. My wheels were the stock GT wheels painted silver with trim rings (in '69 they were chromed.) These things had extremely good brakes. The first time you drive it be sure to wear your seat belt, the front power discs will put you through the windshield. Mine had the same exterior trim package. I had the 3:00 open rear end. These had the stiffer springs, so they handled not too bad. My engine had the square looking chrome rocker covers, and a chrome air cleaner top, all stock. Mags, especially the Cragar SS, were popular back then, but I always thought they didn't look good on the Torino/Cyclone. Those Magnum 500s will look great on it.
Well over 25 years ago now, my mother owned one of these. Black on black. I think it probably had the 302 in it but it's always stuck with me. Especially when I got to drive it sitting in the driver's seat with her riding shotgun. It was brief (I was about 11) but it was fun and the first time I think I fell in love with cars. I really hope to find another '68 500 Fastback one day to relive those memories of a not too distant past. Sadly she had to sell it a few years later; and I fear it either rotted away (upstate NY) or was sent to the crusher during the "cash for clunkers" scam.
I had a 1968 Fairlane 500. It was a fast back 390 4 speed with the 3.08 poi’s also. Bucket seat with console. Black with res interior. I sold it in June of 1999. It had the dealer emblem from JB Ball Miami FL
Oh my! My first car was exact same, 390 4 speed but, was black with dark red interior. My dad thought I was crazy, a girl wanting a 4 speed. Loved that car. Will you sell this after restorations?
Basically is ..I had a 68 Torino GT back in the day …they’re just different trim levels..the gt had the c stripes instead of chrome down the sides…but actually they’re the same car.

I had one like this in high school. It had a 289. I put a 8 track player and a FM converter in it.

One of my favorite cars ever

Nice! Love it!
Nice, I'd like to have that
My late aunt had a regular Fairlane hardtop coupe when I was in grade school. Unfortunately it rusted out where it was at!
First to view, first to like, first to share, first to comment! I think you like that car too much Robby. Time to let the 67 Fastback go... :)
My bother had one in early 80s
good food base
This was my first car. Do you still have it? If so, I am interested.
Sure looks like a Torino to me.
