    People that say that it shouldn't be a sport because you're not running around, getting physically fit forget some things.
    Darts is a sport
    Poker is a sport
    Cup stacking is a sport
    Chess is a sport
    Sport does not mean running around, it means a competitive game.

      ***** poker, darts,and cup stackings aren't really sports and if they are accepted i feel like e-sports should be as well, but considering the players as "athletes" is just an insult to real athletes that look healthy and are fit, Chess is a sport and i believe it should since it at least requires a deep level of thinking but it's players shouldn't be considered as athletes either.

      BigBadWolf I also feel that they shouldn't be called athletes, because it kind of takes down the meaning of the word. However, think about it like this: If you play basketball all by yourself, you're not doing a sport, you're doing an excercise. If your playing basketball competitevely with other people, it's a sport. Hell, seeing who can drink their water bottle the fastest can be considered a sport. It's just that that isn't going to be considered a sport because it doesn't require much thinking or pshysical ability. E-sports do.

    As a gamer, I don't think gaming should be recognized as a sport. It's essentially saying that sitting on a chair rapidly pressing buttons falls under the same category as running through a field tossing/hitting balls to each other and (depending on the sport) making physical contact with other players.
    With sports you need speed, endurance, and reflexes. You also need to make use of your entire body. But with gaming, you just need reflexes and speed, but those only apply to your fingers, while you yourself could be physically out of shape and absolutely helpless in a real sport.

    • @oakysketch2112
      @oakysketch2112 9 лет назад +8

      While slightly true, you also have to use your brain. What to buy, who to heal, how long you spend in a lane, and weather or not to press an attack. Split Second decisions. A lot of it is quick thinking. I can respect your opinion, but I feel that it can be considered a sport.

    • @TheDarThaum
      @TheDarThaum 9 лет назад +1

      The meaning of "Sport" is to use physical exertion and skill in a individual or team competition for entertainment. Gaming doesn't seem very physical considering your sitting in a chair for the duration of the game but when MatPat showed me that players tear muscles in their arms in gaming competitions, I couldn't believe that. That one clue shows that gaming is a legit sport. A sport where you physically exert energy and show your skill through a computer! Think I'm lying? Look up the meaning sport.

    I find it humorous how many people are trying to justify their "Gaming ain't a sport!" by claim by saying there's no physical precision or not enough movement, then find no fault in games like Poker, Chess, Cup Stacking, Horse Racing, et al. being sports.
    Listen up: We're not saying that ALL gaming is a sport. My playing football, soccer, and baseball with my son and the neighbors doesn't make me an athlete. It doesn't even make it a sport. It's just a game as it's done for the fun of it without any serious competitive consideration, even as we follow the rules. However, those players who build custom components to get the weights perfect for their hands? The ones who practice with their team for hours on end and then watch their competitors' game videos to anticipate strategies? The ones who've developed PRECISE MUSCLE MOVEMENTS to fulfill their needs in their chosen game? The ones who take the time to learn exactly what each piece in the game can do in an otherwise balanced and fair playing field, making only the players' skill and ability to perform the difference between victory and defeat? (EDIT: Adding the following line as I thought I'd included it) The ones who take the time and energy to ensure that they meet all requirements to fit into a specific competitive organization's requirements so that they can actively participate in the advertised local, regional, national, and international competitions? (/EDIT) That's physical prowess, skill, and competition. That's dedication and drive. That, my friends, is when it becomes a sport. It doesn't take away from your chosen preferred sports any more than the sports that are currently recognized by the older generation did for other sports. It's just simply a newer, different kind of sport.
    I am a gamer. I don't consider my personal gaming to be a sport and I'm okay with that. I play to have fun and I don't rightly care if I come out on top in every single game as long as it was a fair game that was entertaining. But those teams of players who dedicate that time, energy, devotion to winning their game with their team in an organized and regulated format? They're playing their game as a sport. It's no different than any other sport out there. Just like any other sport, it has its tools and equipment. And unless you can come up with an argument other than, "It's not physical enough," or the grossly tired, "The definition (that I won't link to) says...," then you're only arguing against it because it's *different.*

    • @vinx.9095

      what is the difference between a game (as in a game of soccer) and a sport?
      how we call it.

    • @doom2ruler
      @doom2ruler 8 лет назад +3

      vinx.909 Actually, I would posit that the difference is the amount of time, energy, skill, and organization put into them as well as the competition that they foster. Any smaller group of people can play a game, but it takes many more people playing by a set standard and organized format to call it a sport.

    • @vinx.9095
      @vinx.9095 8 лет назад +2

      Lone Wulf following that logic (and it is very logical) esports are differently sports

    • @Catcrumbs
      @Catcrumbs 8 лет назад

      +Lone Wulf My my, that is a strawman of some magnitude, not to mention a faulty generalisation. I've never seen anyone propose a definition of 'sport' that would exclude e-sports try to argue that poker or chess are sports. Including cup stacking and horse racing (which are intrinsically physical activities, unlike the former two) alongside poker and chess is disingenuous at best.

    • @doom2ruler
      @doom2ruler 8 лет назад +4

      Catcrumbs With all due respect, you may want to consider re-discovering the definition of straw man fallacy. I don't re-define the arguments used and then formulate an argument against it. (From Wikipedia: based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent's argument, while actually refuting an argument which was not advanced by that opponent. - Downes, Stephen. "The Logical Fallacies") In fact, a quick glancing of the many anti-eSports comments will show quite clearly that their argument is strictly in regards to "Physical Prowess" determining whether or not something is a sport, to which I directly address in my argument. That, my friend, is *NOT* a straw man.
      I will also invite you to rebut any of the actual argument instead of trying to assert that my first sentence, which is merely a statement of opinion, is the entirety of my argument.
      Until then, please, have a nice day and a Happy New Year.

    • @ejhc9628
      @ejhc9628 7 лет назад +20

      It is not us that want it that way, if ESPN doesnt take this chance to enter the E-Sports scene, they are going to lose that market; companies like IBM and Radioshack went bankrupt for not evolving with the time, not saying that ESPN is going bankrupt but losing a emerging market of billions of dollars can make anyone puke blood if they understimated how big it would be in the future.

      Because it's a "well set" base for this for TV. Sport based channels are about a similar type of competition and have the resources for broadcasting it on TV.
      If we should want it on TV, that involves the matters of broadening the community and growing the public acceptance of Gamers.

    I will just say that, according to SportAccord, the association of all of the world's biggest sporting federations (like [association] football and rugby), the definition of a "sport" is any activity that a. has an element of competition; b. does not rely on any form of "luck" integrated within the game; c. is not judged to pose an undue health risk to its participants; d. is in no way harmful to any living creature; and e. does not rely on equipment provided by only one supplier. By this definition from the _de facto_ international representative of sport, certain eSports do in fact count as sport.

    • @naruyashan
      @naruyashan 8 лет назад +6

      Peter Vreča I disagree. There are some balance issues in pretty much all games. The issue is that in SMITE, there usually aren't more than 1 or 2 OP gods at any time, and even then, Hi-Rex generally needs them quickly enough that it isn't usually an issue. Also, many of the gods that are "OP" just require more game knowledge, etc. to effectively combat, much like how Yi is considered OP in lower elos. My issues with league lie with how they buff to sell more skins, how they take way too long to apply nerfs, how they blatantly play favorites, how they leave some champions to rot for years without changing them at all (See Yorick, Warwick, Galio, Urgot), how they rarely account for power creep, and how they often cater to the higher ranked and pro players while ignoring the majority of the player base. I'm not saying SMITE doesn't have it's own problems. It has plenty. But in my opinion, it does a much better job at balancing than riot overall.

    Sports requires four things
    1) Physical Exertion - Any Movement counts, if its running a marathon, or moving a chess piece, it's physical exertion. What most people view this as is extreme Physical exertion, which is a requirement for athletics. This stops watching TV from being a sport
    2)International Governing Body - Some sort of organisation, usually French. This stops games people create from being sports
    3)Skill or learning curve - Any skill, or need to learn that will always affect the event. This stops gambling like slot machines from being sports, but allows Poker as a skillful Poker player will beat a unskillful one
    4)Competition or scoring system - A goal to achieve victory and a way to calculate this.

      Jordan Smith I can relate to hating Lol...Dota..etc, especially because of the top down mechanic...but I do like Smite. It's the only one doing anything different and like the video said, the only one moving the genre forward. Though i still think how you level up is just wrong. Its based on how many matches you play basically instead of how well you play. So you could be level 30 just from playing alot of matches, but still not be very good at the game. Personally I would go off of the win loss record or your kill to death ratio, but thats just me.

    I'm sticking my neck out here, but I think that two categories of sport should exist. Mental and physical. Sports (Or games) that are more demanding in terms of physical prowess are considered physical sport, whereas sports (Or games again) where strategy, quick thinking and other mental attributes are more vital should be classed as mental. Notice how I never said neither attribute is not needed in any sport (Even chess, but you don't need much physical power to move pieces around)

    • @Liggliluff
      @Liggliluff 5 лет назад +6

      I do agree with you. Even though injuries happen in eSports, they are far between, and not as severe as in physical sports. So classifying eSports as mental sports, I'm okay with.

    • @freewyvern707

      There already is.
      Athletic and Non-athletic
      What most people count as just "sports" are athletic Sports, but sports such as esports count as non-athletic sports
      The definition is Ever Physical Exertion(Non-Athletic) and Extreme Physical Exertion(Athletic)
      There is no true line between the two, but the normal definiton if the sportsman has an average of 110bpm while active in the sport
      The definition dosn't care how much physical exertion, along as you doing something with your body changes the event somehow counts. If it's Running a marathon or moving a chess-piece, both are physical exertion

    I love how "True Sports" fans down in the comment section is trying their best to prove that Gaming isn't sport without knowing the actual definition for Sports.
    Sport (British English) or sports (American English) includes all forms of competitive physical activity or games which,[1] through casual or organised participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing enjoyment to participants, and in some cases, entertainment for spectators.
    Let's start with the basics and the only argument sport fans have. "Include all forms of competitive physical activity". If kicking a ball is consider a physical activities why does moving your fingers doesn't ? Is it because finger movements are to non important ? Pitchers in Baseball heavily rely on their fingers to control the ball, without using their fingers, pitchers will always throw straight balls that are easy to hit. Not only that, Gaming have a special kind of physical activity that "True sports" doesn't have, Brain activities, Gaming require a lot of instant decision making and tactical thinking. In "True sports" the player is relying on his body instinct to play, Sport Athletes usually can't make crucial and tactical decision very well because most of their brain capacity is focusing on the body. So Gaming pass the first condition with points to spare.
    Next one. I honestly want so skip this one because anybody who use this as their augment is retarded. "Through casual or organized participation" E-Sports tournaments already are organized very carefully and have many investor ready to advertised their products. Cheating and Match Staging still happens very often in "Real sports" such as footballs and baseball. Gaming has a shockingly lower numbers of cheating and match staging compare to just soccer and baseball alone.
    Next one. what physical ability does soccer improve ? Speed, Agility, Focus, Aim. What does FPS games improve ? Fast pace hand movements, Endurance to keep your focust even after a 30 minutes game, Focus, Aim, Decision making, Reaction time. Saying Gaming doesn't improve physical attributes is like saying reading a book doesn't make you any smarter.
    Last one. Okay let's just skip this because this one is obvious. If E Sports doesn't entertain the players and the audience, no one will even come.
    As society grows Humans uses more and more of their brain and less of their physical strength. Why do you think Guns were invented ?
    I know most sports fans won't even read this comment and instead attack me for defending gaming anyways, you guys are too stubborn to accept new things.
    Oh and by the way, calling yourself a gamer does not make your argument of "GAMINZ IZ NAT SPORTZ" valid and acceptable.

    Honestly, my biggest reasoning for why I sorta look down on esports in comparison to normal sports, (while being a big gamer.) Is that active sports do get people, active. They have peak physical health. Esports, that's not really a requirement. Both types of sports can get injuries from play, but the esports injuries are from their extensive 'training.' Carpal tunnel and arthritis like problems simply come from the extensive play they under take. While the only thing extensive training for sports does, is increase their physique, increase the resistance their muscles have, the rate oxygen is transported by the heart, all good things that not only benefit the sport, but the rest of their life too.

    • @Bruh-wg6qn
      @Bruh-wg6qn 5 лет назад

      Eh.. I get that all sport people care about is the physical aspect but the only reason I can even speak English is cause of games not cause of my 2 years of football, "real sports" increase physical attributes but it depends on the sport tbh cause some of em (like golf) don't seem to me like I'll play them for 5 years and be buff af after, meanwhile most esports increase your awareness, decision making, thinking, communication etc...
      I just feel like barely anyone takes a look at this discussion from both sides, yes esports don't increase physical stuff, and yes sports don't increase mental stuff, unless you wanna talk chess and stuff but that's not a "real sport" either is it?

    As a gamer and athlete, I have no problem with saying that gaming should be considered a sport. However, I feel very strongly that the distinction between an athletic sport and a non-athletic sport should be recognized.

      I thing video games should not be considered sports. They're totally separate things. Nothing against video games WHATSOEVER, I love them, but sports are meant to be athletic, and moving your hands back and forth a few inches is not athletic. Honestly, they deserve more of a place on ESPN that the Poker championships, but that doesn't mean they're sports.

    The reason why people do not think it is a sport is because it is too new. The RTS and FPS are both about 20 years old, and compared to other more traditional forms of entertainment, that is pretty new. People who grew up with older technology will usually stick to it, and it is hard to get older people to play a video game. This is not true 100% of the time, but to me this is mostly true. Also, people do not have the background knowledge to this media form.

    I loved this video and I'll try my best to point out somethings I observed about accessibility of PC gamming in my country (Brazil). First, a quick wikipedia article says: "Video games were not permitted for import into Brazil until the 1990s, and were then heavily taxed as non-essential goods. As a result, a black market developed around pirating games, driven by the lack of official channels for purchasing games. Many game companies avoided expansion into the country for these reasons until the 2010s.[2] Blaming high tariffs, Nintendo officially left the market in 2015, but returned in 2017."
    Knowing that it's easier to get to a few points:
    1 - Games are expensive around here, specially consoles, as you can see in the cheapiest brand new PS4 500GB costing around U$416.05 I found online (against the U$299 on the US), that's mostly taxes.
    2 - Games are expensive for US. You see, Brazil has a huge Income inequality and laws and regulations that kind of perpetuate this situation.
    "Brazil's heavy taxes built into consumer prices include high taxes on foods, which burdens the poor. The tax load of those in the higher income brackets earning more than 30 times the minimum wage a month amounted to 26.3 per cent. In contrast, those with a monthly income of less than twice the minimum wage were taxed almost twice the amount at 48.8 per cent."
    On top of that 25,4% of the people earn US$ 5,50 a day (it takes 76 days of work for a person like this buy a PS4), and 6,4% earn less than U$1,9 a day.
    Yeah, I know, that's a WAY worst problem envolving political corruption, market pressure, bank control and even just bad administration, but nonetheless reveal a great problem in one of a HELL of a gamming community.
    3 - PCs are way cheapier to have in a home, since it helps in studies and work (and you can buy an old used one and it will still be somewhat ok). In addition, League of Legends has a long range of PC specs which CAN run it in a somewhat "fun" capacity and also is a free game. No wonder why it is the largest gamming community in Brazil and it has it's own local server.
    4 - Online games are harder to pirate or fake. The games need local servers to build up competition and - even with Brazil's vast quantity of "private servers" - official competitivity is a pain in the butt for paid games.
    I know I digress a lot, but I'm trying to produce a game here and I ALSO love playing and watching games. Therefore - in the actual political and economic situation of my country (specially after the 2017 coup) - I can not stay silent. I hope more and more people gets aware of this to maybe change our situation, not only in gaming, but in general

    People who think that video games can't be sports are the same type of people as the ones who fight over which console is superior.
    It's a psychological effect that can loosely be defined as "fanboyism." You defend the thing you love to death because you feel that any criticism of it is a criticism of you. Sports fans have, for so long, criticized "nerds" for playing "vidya gaems," and now that they're seeing them get recognition by their sports network, they feel threatened. They feel like it's a personal attack because of how much they have emotionally invested. They're afraid others will look at sports less legitimately because they looked at video games as less legitimate.
    So, sports fans, it's alright. No one's gonna take away your sportsball. You can still enjoy it. The "nerds" are just here to be equal, and no one's going to make fun of you (that isn't already making fun of you for being so obsessed with sports. People who make fun of people for personally enjoying something are stupid anyways.)
    And gamers, you don't have to meet them halfway. You don't have to be reasonable to have them accept change. It's okay. Competitive video games are sports, and competitive gamers are athletes.

      The name for a person who participates in a sport is an athlete. It's really that simple, and the two could be easily associated with one another. Chess players are athletes, and even contestants in Math competitions are Athletes. Considering the lack of physical activity in these, professional gamers could just as easily be called athletes. Where is your supporting evidence to suggest otherwise?

    Mattpat, you miss an important aspect of getting esports accepted: the understanding level of the audience. Here's part of the problem, by way of example:
    I've been playing games since the early 80's. I have a decent amount of free time to game in my adult life, I game with my kids, with my wife, and by myself. I play all kinds of games, on both console and PC, everything from casual clickers to sports games to puzzlers to platformers to RPGs to card battle games.
    And for the life of me I can't figure out what the f**k is going on, on one of those MOBA screens.
    Characters are too small, and their movements are unpredictable without having a deep knowledge of team tactics for that specific game. Icons are all over the place, cluttering up the view for anyone who doesn't know what they mean. Messages pop up and disappear before you can read them. The map is essentially useless.
    Some of these same sorts of things can be said about the more physical sports, to be sure. But most all of us have a sense of moving our bodies, throwing a ball, running, etc. that translates some of what's going on intuitively. But even people like me, with long and broad gaming experience, often can't tell what's happening at any given moment in a MOBA.

      The Internet Peasant I think given any amount of time you're eventually bound to learn some of the basics of what's going on. I only watch The Super Bowl and I barely understand the ins and outs of football. It's a state of mind I believe that you want to learn from watching and dedicating the time to watching rather than just clicking on the live stream and thinking everything will be good to go for watching.
      I'm in the same boat as you, I play pretty much everything but MOBAs and really have no clue what's going on during them, but that's because I've never had the interest to learn.

    *Sports:*
    - often involves physical exertion (to the point where you can get out of breath, e.g. *football* - by this definition chess is not a sport)
    - can involve mental exertion (by this definition *chess* is a sport, as is e-Sports)
    - the most common "sports" is the one including physical force - therefore chess is not a sport. However chess is officially a sport, and thus e-Sports should be too.
    *eSports:*
    - involves quick reflexes and reaction time (like any *martial arts*, just without the physical exertion in it)
    - involves precision (in e.g. CSGO - similarly to *skeet shooting* or *archery* skeet shooting and archery are categorized as sports while CSGO is not, to many)
    - is a sport if categorized with mental exertion
    *Personal opinion?*
    eSports is, more or less, sports. If it was not, skeet shooting/archery would not be either if CSGO was not - it has similar training. Now someone will be like "BUT YOU ACTUALLY HOLD A GUN IN SKEET SHOOTING!!!1111" - that is irrelevant. The training method is similar and the actual sport is similar (shoot things as they appear with the greatest precision), however CSGO also requires teamwork at the professional level.
    Games like Hearthstone are not really sports however (HS is eSports however, as eSports is just as broad as sports. Comparing Hearthstone and CSGO like comparing chess and football.), as luck has a huge factor in the game, unlike in LoL or CSGO. Feel free to hate me for this opinion.

    • @M8gazine
      @M8gazine 9 лет назад +3

      Hina Face They would not be sports, technically. However, as you can categorize "sports" by either mental exertion OR physical exertion, they _can_ be sports.
      Chess, Scrabble or Spelling Bee are mental sports (like eSports) - football, baseball or basketball are physical ones. :)

      iGamingRecon You missed a lot of the definition of sports by most governing sport agencies. You missed the fact that a game must have a codified set of rules to be considered a sport, that a game must involve a high level of competition to be considered a sport and you missed that a game must have a high level of skill to be considered a sport. And in fact, most governing sport agencies don't require a high mental ability for something to be considered a sport, although, as you said, most sports do have a high level of mental activity. Also, the requiement is not that it often involves physical exertion, but that it involves a high level of physical exertion. If a game does not meet all of the requirements of a sport then it falls into the next category, which is games, a category developed specifically for games like these that meet some, but not all, of the requirements of a sport. Almost no sport professional or governing sport agency would consider chess or esports a sport because they don't involve a high level of physical activity. You mentioned getting to the point of getting out of breath but I would argue that a truly high level of physical activity would include most, if not all, sections of the body. This is why sports professionals are debating over golf and NASCAR as being games, not sports. I even hear baseball get thrown around every once in a while. I haven't heard of classifying physical and mental sports before, but I do think that might be a good idea in the future.

    • @M8gazine
      @M8gazine 9 лет назад +1

      theryanplummer There are multiple rules for sports, yes. I also did mean that sports in general include a high level of physical exertion (unlike in chess where you move one hand), I apologize if I was unclear.
      However, the classification of mental/physical sports wasn't even my idea, I got it from some video or it's comments. I thought it was a brilliant idea and I support it. eSports in general could be sports if that were the case, as it is somewhat taxing mentally; you have to deal with frustration (if you are losing) or pressure (closing matches out).
      Also, my opinion about whether NASCAR or golf are sports is that they are sports. NASCAR falls under the category of motorsports, in which the drivers need to be healthy to withstand long times in heat, especially if it is a sunny day and you are driving ~300 laps somewhere.
      Golf is more about precision and ability to control your stick so that you score the least, therefore it's basically a mental sport (it involves very little physical stress).

    The one thing I need to bring up on this and it's the toxic nature of the MOBA community and online gaming in general. This needs to be sorted out before esports can be taken seriously.

    • @nicraptor11

      nicraptor11 With MOBA players, that is everyone almost without exception. It is most toxic excuse for a community out there. It nothing but abuse from your own team. You sir, are in denial.

    • @IHaveNoLaifu
      @IHaveNoLaifu 9 лет назад +2

      Ice Climber A large piece of the toxicity comes from non professional players, physical sports also has toxic non professional players as well. They're actually pretty paralleled in my mind, with the only major difference is how they're being toxic (moba players get to hide behind a screen while sports players are face to face), but maybe I'm over thinking as I tend to do, so feel free to disagree but the way I see it. Sorry in advance if examples are league oriented only because that's the only online game I play semi competitively while keeping tabs on the professional teams. And this is probably gonna be wordy.
      1. Toxicity doesn't exist so much in professional league of legends teams, but on the occasions where toxicity happens between teammates or a team member attacks someone on another team the coaches tend bench them asap (I think piglet being benched would be the most recent example I can think of) and in some cases riot has banned players from competing in the lcs (sportsman like behavior is part of the rules for lcs I would think). Meanwhile on professional sports teams you can look on youtube and find videos of teammates getting into literal fist fights and I would hope they got benched.
      2. As of non professional teams (small tournament teams), which is one I can speak from personal experience since I've had a small team do at least 1 tournament a week... mostly for the free rp. We probably took our little tournament team a little too seriously (hey, free rp), we had a full roster with a main team and subs so we practiced every day 5-7 hours a day. The great thing about it was that we were all friends and we had fun doing it while we did. Unfortunately, we did have some toxic players and when it came down to how serious we actually were about that free rp, we did cut friends off the roster because of the all chat bm (in some tournaments all chat bm meant disqualification) or the complaining about someone on the team over mic for the team morale. This is kinda similar to highschool and college sports teams where awkwardly enough one toxic player on our team apparently also did sports for their college and got benched pretty often. (we've had a group discussion about his attitude, he's been trying to chill out-- ehhh, it's a 50/50 but we appreciate the effort. He's stopped arguing in all chat, thats a start)
      3. Now down to where all the toxicity is: normals and solo/duo queue. This is essentially like an elementary school to high school pe class for physical sports. Its a bunch of random kids being paired with each other by a higher force (match making for league, pe teachers for sports) where some kids can't help but make things as difficult as they can. And when it comes down to it all you can do on league is mute or report where matchmaking will go out of its way not to put you on a team as that toxic player while in irl you fuss to that pe teacher and they try not to put the two of you together.
      In the end, a guys (men?) being irl douchebags doesn't stop people from enjoying watching professional sports and taking professional sports seriously. Toxicc10 year olds trying to sound like bad asses online playing league-- although it leaves a bad mark for people who are new to esports (maybe even the internet too because toxic behavior is found everywhere online), it shouldn't be that final stamp of disapproval that determines whether or not something can be deemed serious or not.
      oh. yeah. this got wordy. ^-^ sorry~

    • @Ice-Climber
      @Ice-Climber 9 лет назад

      Nicole Hoffman I find that there is not as much toxicity with pro players very hard to believe. It really feels like the games encourage that kind of behaviour.

    • @IHaveNoLaifu
      @IHaveNoLaifu 9 лет назад

      Ice Climber I get your feelings about it being encouraged as how league's report system works nowadays... or maybe perhaps I just miss the tribunal-- get my dose of unnecessary/childish drama. I understand riot can't keep track of millions of individual players and they feel this is the best way to go about it. But you can find pages and pages of players getting banned from lcs by riot or coaches doing whats best for the team and benching (they do want to win after all) for toxic behavior where it's easier for riot to keep track of pros since they're a much smaller scale of people; and from what I hear they are very strict on that. Maybe there is more toxicity among the professional teams than I suspect, there is a good chance that that is in fact true as I am not a pro and I do not personally know each and every one of them. But if there is, they do a good job at keeping a clean appearance when the public is looking and not letting on to their inner asshole as someone in traditional sports would do.

    another thing that needs to happen is that older people need to stop thinking that video games are a waste of time. i cant tell you how many times ill be talking about a game in front of my dad and he freaks out. it boils down to the fact that people are afraid of change. they think that if video games become recognized as sports, then people will become fat and lazy and other things. but its actually quite the opposite. ill give you an example. when i was younger i didn't play video games that often, and i was terrible at catching and other hand eye coordination related things. in the last 3 and a half years I've been playing more video games on my PC, and not only can i catch, my hand eye coordination has been significantly improved. I can still go outside and play these sports, but much better than i could ever before! just because i play video games doesn't mean that i don't do other things.

    • @bartender_billy6229
      @bartender_billy6229 9 лет назад

      I cant remember saying anything about making it a sport, but if i did then i didn't mean that. I don't think it should be considered a sport, but i do think that its a very legitimate competition that has the right to be televised. so yes i agree with what you said

      Pfft. BOTH competitive gaming and sports are massive wastes of time. The amount of good that a quarterback does with throwing a long ball down the field right on the mark to a receiver is equal to the good done by a Street Fighter player who wins a round in a tournament. This is just a bunch of useless assholes worried terribly about other people's perception of their dick size who all ultimately do nothing for the world except provide entertainment for the masses. Sports fans and athletes and analysts are terrified of the notion that they're worthless contests will someday become irrelevant and thus be replaced by other completely worthless contests. Meanwhile, gamers are insecure over the fact that their worthless contests are not being taken seriously by other people watching or partaking in worthless contests that have nothing to fucking do with them. All because a corporation wanted to make a little cash by stirring the pot and watching it boil. Human retardation at its fucking finest.
      Neither side should give a fuck about what the other side thinks. Neither side should even give an opinion on this matter. Because it doesn't fucking matter. The future will decide the victor and that's fucking that.
      Admittedly, watching nerds and jocks go at it always makes for a barrel of laughs. Especially when there's a person who is both a nerd and a jock. Good shit. Grab a beer or an energy drink and enjoy the show.

      Vice Warner Why stop at sports being a waste of time? Let's extend that to everything. Everything is a waste of time and doesn't matter. No matter what you do, you die. No matter what humanity tries, it will die too. No matter what sentient life tries to do, the Universe will eventually end in heat death. At that point, it will be as if humanity had never happened in the first place.
      So, ultimately, competitive gaming is just as important as every single other thing in the Universe.
      (This is why calling things a waste of time is stupid.)

      TheoneandonlySkrillard423 Yeah, why the hell is there a stigma attached to gamers? Just because you play video games as a hobby doesn't mean that's ALL you do, and it certainly doesn't make you inherently unhealthy. If you take gaming to an extreme, then yeah of course you'll get unhealthy, but active sports are like that too. If you start practicing and going on extreme diets, you'll screw up your muscles and get injured.
      In the right amount, both gaming and sports alike are very good for you. Be it through physical fitness or hand-eye coordination and reaction time, practicing one could help you improve the other. They both have equal rights to be considered sports, and the whole idea that being a gamer makes you unhealthy and that being an athlete makes you inherently healthy needs to go. "Health" is not completely determined by your activeness, your diet, ability to fight infections, and the amount and appropriateness of exercise is what counts. Whether you play video games or love football does not determine one way or another if you are healthy or unhealthy.
