Literal
HOY ES NOCHE DE FRI FAIRRRRRRRRRR
I think it's funny how other Americans never knew about it. It's extremely obvious that third world countries and/or countries with a predominantly poor population would have gaming catered to them. I think it's extremely closed minded of him to have not considered that these vast populations of poor people could 1. game, and 2. have internet access. It'll ever hit people in the US or Europe because there's just not a large enough impovershed audiance.
@@bigdaddynero3497 i agree, it's also well known here in Philippines
Its because game theorist is completely wrong. We dont know these games, because they are trash as you said. These games wont take over the western, its more likely high quality western games get more popular in eastern world as they get richer.
@@TheDool Genshin Impact literally took over the world last year
The main gripe with this video is Mat being "surprised" that other countries exist, but rather, I think this video just goes to show that the English speaking side of youtube has been boxed in by the big three markets (japan, us, and europe) and I feel it's a valuable lesson. I'm Jamaican, and so much of my experience being mostly socialized through the internet primes me to be being oriented to think that way, because the english speaking audience just, tends not to interact with other regions and I think that a big name mentioning this will help better globalize the youtube experience and let all of us smaller countries feel a little bit more seen online.
It more has to do with the fact that we have better games and freedoms that allow us to have a diverse range of games that fit our personal preferences. Meanwhile in those countries they are heavily restricted as to what they can play as well as the availability of games, so all the people who download games only have a limited pool to choose from and hence there being that many downloads of those games as well as a more equal gender balance in it, due to them not having a choice as to what they can to pick that fits their personal preferences. Imagine the only vegetable in your grocery store are potatoes, well your going to have a disproportionate amount of people buying potatoes if you just look at the data and compare it to another country that has a diverse range of vegetables such as carrots, cucumbers etc.
Well what are we going to do? Watch videos in other languages?
Living in Europe we are not in a bubble in terms of gaming like the usa
@@Geographyandhistory2024 Yeah we are lol, maybe not as much as the US but being from the U.K. 99% of the games I play are by American, European or Japanese developers because they dominate the market
@@iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii7738 yep same, though I'd add there's also quite a few Chinese games becoming more popular, but yeah I'd say that the vast majority of games I'm aware of as a fellow European is from those three big markets.

I'm from Brazil. This video really made laugh. Mat trying to say "techTudo" was the best.
No that's just proof how isolated the east truly is compared to the globalized western world. And how circumstances dictate opportunity like the mobile market. It almost feels like the early days of isolated Japan. Anyways this video def is mindblowing.
Honestly. When he asked “why had we never heard of this? Why wasn’t it written about in all these American-based websites?” Immediately I was like, “because it’s a game popular in other countries that never really got played in the US”
Matt, just letting you know that the flag during 7.10 is definitely not Thailand. The red and the blue are switching. Cheers from Thailand!

I have a snack crate subscription and one of the countries we got it from was Thailand so I have the facts poster from it. I also have a world map with countries names, capitals, populations, land volume, and flag at the bottom. And I'm just a geography nerd in general so I was pained by this mistake by the editing team.
@Geometry D Yeah I'm from costa rica an I thought he was gonna say costa rica lol
I am so glad that Mat pointed out the huge genderfication of games. I'm a woman, and although I do enjoy Stardew Valley and the Sims 4, I ADORE Skyrim, Fallout 4, and The Long Dark. They were all marketed as male games, and TLD only had a male option to play as. But, I grew up with Skyrim, GTA V, Fallout games, and all different kinds of fighting games like Mortal Kombat and the like. I am so happy, and I hope that his assumption with the gaming market changing is true. It would make my whole existence to know that my siblings and my kids wont be subjected to American propaganda. I am even hopeful that this will help other companies realize that they can get more money and have less hassle, simply be not gendering their products, experiences, and companies as a whole.
Overall, men are just more interested in fps and violent games, hence they target them
I don't believe it's a forced split, just statistics on who plays those games more. Even with the arena of valor game it's still a 54-46 split which is pretty close. I don't believe anyone is saying this game is only for a certain gender, the stats are just stating who plays it more.
i love how matpat puts so much effort in his videos, just watch that intro, this is so well made

While mobile gaming is still considered bad, I have to admit it's gone a long long way. Gone are the days of angry birds and pou.
People are playing full blown MMOs on their phones now. And for once I'm genuinely excited for what mobile gaming has to offer.
Phones have gotten stronger enough that they're becoming fully fledged gaming machines.
It's still the same you still get low quality & ads/micro-transactions everywhere it's just now you can sort of play an older low performance console game.

You know he might get banned if he mentions some of things. Remember, he's a mainstream channel, so he could get banned very easily.
He wanted to do examples that everyone can understand without getting the focus off the main topic
this is exactly why we are going through what I call the gaming depression. with all of these great games flying un heard of and unrecognised it leaves all of the triple A and mainstream gamers wondering when the next big hit Is out. this is shown more recently with the crappy release of COD vanguard and BF 2042.
I am from India and when that Xbox came, want some game access, i laugh so hard I mean it's so true 😂😂 in India majority of people don't have the privilege to buy console or parents don't let them , that's why majority of people use either desktop or mobile devices to play games , even though I already know all games matpat said but country side people can't afford desktop or Xbox that's why they shifted to mobile games that's the reason some Asian games wooped up like freefire ,pubg
NGL, this is the kind of video that i prefer on game theory. It doesn't need to have a lot of them, but looking at gaming as a whole and exposing new games to the audience, makes great videos
Same one of my favorite episodes was the blue vs red theory
I thought this was gonna be about Tetris ngl, because it has more downloads than Minecraft
Why are so many p-corn bots in your comments?
I'm from the Philippines and I've literally heard of all the games 5hat MatPat showed but I've never even once checked them out. Kinda surprised how big some of them actually are.

I also wanted to refer to that. Do Americans don't have seasons? Today in South-west Poland was like 25 Celsius, but it's end of summer.

Depends. Some areas get super cold and some stay warm throughout
@@Greebo4 america is massively varying in it's climate. where I live in the northeast US, during the summer it goes up to maybe 40C, but in the winter it gets to about -20 or so. I think this just goes to show the difference of pop culture in different continents. I’m from Bangladesh a country in South Asia and almost all the games you mentioned are very popular here
train sim world 2 requires a theory video and i wont stop until i get one
I wrote my undergraduate thesis about basically this, so it’s kind of cool to see that my thesis was close to accurate
Cool! I wrote a master thesis on this and got an A. Although those kinds of videos were what inspired me to choose this theme in the first place.

But that's just a thesis, an undergraduate thesis!

According to my friends that play the game, the 54% of female players in Honor of Kings are actually mostly caused by male players using a female account to be "better" treated in-game.
Also as a side note, the recent law in China that limits non-adult individuals to only play games for 3hours during weekends will probably hurt the gaming industry a lot.
Yes, people know this. Its an old strategy
That's true but the 54% women also isn't exaggerated I've been playing it for 5 years on and off most of my female friends, my girlfriend and her friends plays or played before and they aren't the gamer type of people. The game is popular in Asia and it's always the most profitable games except that time when their parent company Tencent(who also own Riot) launch pubg. The funny thing is Honor of King is a copycat of LoL before they bought Riot and then they got copy by Mobile Legend which also a successful game in Asia/SEA and beaten their own games like LoL wildrift(China+International) and Arena of Valor combined which is supposed to tackle Mobile moba outside of china.
Is that an actual statistic or its just a guess
@@idontknowanymore2515 I mean, nobody here gave any statistics that MatPat didn't already say in his video
That's.. honestly incredible
The way i way gaming now is flipped entirely, but that's why i love watching The theory channels :))
As a Brazilian, the first 5 minutes of the video felt like MatPat was discovering other countries out of the USA exist.

It's hard for us Latin Americans not to be involved in other countries' culture when gaming.
There are 440 M people living in Latin America, and 220 M of them are Brazilian. When you join a fighting game, there's a 50% probability of fighting against a Brazilian and a 50% chance of fighting against someone from anywhere else.
The worst thing is that in most games the servers of South America are in Brazil so countries further away from Brazil such as Chile have to deal daily with having more than 150 ping
Im Brazilian and UR GOING TO BRAZIL
But yet some game companies (Nintendo👀) refuse to give us translated games lol (Davy Jones voice in my head).. not that I care actually... I think I'm more confused when playing in portuguese but it's sad when you ask a friend to play and he says "Nah.. it's not translated"

Rewatching and just noticed you also mentioned Lords Mobile, which I've played the last 6 years - though very inactive the last 3 years with only 1-2 daily logins.
When is part two of the sonic and Mario olympics theory coming out?
This video took a turn from "dystopian secret world" to "We can look forward to an industry developing further and becoming more inclusive" and I love it
MatPat: "This is a Japanese Marlboro. This is a US Marlboro. Can you spot the difference?"
Me: "Nope. They both create a lot of smoke and got bad breath."
Ha! Said the same, thank you
